Combines scholarly discussion with Biblical insights
I have just completed my classes for a doctorate in counseling psychology and have had dozens of books assigned as texts over the years. To be honest, most of them sit in one of my "backroom" bookcases. This book is one of the exceptions.

This work covers the major theories of pscyhotherapy and makes you feel like someone who has a firm grasp of them when you read it. The review from a Biblical viewpoint really gives you a lot to think about. The authors are also very objective, not showing favorites among the various schools of thought. This book is a must for every student and teacher of counseling and psychology.

Exceptional book for both Christian and Secular readers
I'm a psychologist in training, and have many books reviewing various psychotherapies on my shelves, but this remains one of my favorite resources. It explores a number of therapeutic approaches, first by reviewing the thoughts of the approach's founder, then by discussing modern uses. These writeups are useful regardless of whether or not you're looking for a Christian view of the different approaches.

At the end of each chapter, there is a section discussing the approaches as they relate to foundational Biblical principles. This is not a text whose purpose is to spout opinions or dogma; it serves as a strong and rational look at the different aspects of each approach discussed. The reader will come away with a better understanding not only of modern psychotherapeutic approaches, but also with which aspects of those approaches are Biblical in nature, which aren't, and why. Particuarly useful for those building an integrative or electic foundation, or who wish to base their chosen orientation on Biblical principles.

Insightful Christian Perspectives on Psychotherapy
This is an excellent work that sifts through the truth and error of various theories of psychotherapy. Drs. Jones and Butman identify the theoretical perspective and analyze their basic tenets against the revealed truth of Scripture. As is often the case, there is both value and grievous error in most theoretical perspectives. I used this as an optional text in a class I taught on counseling theories, and found it to be an effective tool for learning. Dr Stanton Jones has published a number of respected articles in the area of psychology and theology, and this book reflects a depth of scholarship without undue density.

Customer Service is treated as a strategy not a tactic
This book suggests that all business activity must be to delight a customer. Profit is the reeward for doing a good job. not the objective. The book has a number of worksheet that I completed and it really helped me do a better job at serving the customer. I wasn't just excited to serve the customer I had tools to make it happen.

A Magnificent Journey
I discovered this wonderful book while researching the Potomac for a graduate school project. Stanton (a former Executive Director of the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin) has captured both the river's history and its cultural essence in a concise, enjoyable work.

As a long-time resident of the Mid-Atlantic area, I thought I had a fine appreciation of the Potomac's many gifts. Through Richard Stanton's words I learned just how much more there is to behold. Read this and learn of a wonderful world gone by; dream the dream of a beautiful river which is again flourishing after human neglect.

Excellent. A very worthwhile resource.
Hanging around in newsgroups like alt.atheism, one can easily come to the conclusion that apologetics is the domain of mad b****** fundies, whose grip of morality and reality is only slightly better than that of the Roman emperor Caligula.

This book, written by mainstream theologians, who are, by and large, not mad, gives that lie to that experience based assumption. You get: Considerable historical fact and a critical approach to what we can know of historical truth combined with an excellent cross-reference and most importantly, a refusal to shy away from the difficult areas of Biblical history.

Highly recomended as a reference work, even if the US cover is considerably more garish than the UK version.

Great resource for all but the most literal believer
Covering everything from Aaron to Zuzim, "The Dictionary of the Bible" is a useful one-volume reference work to the Christian Bible.

"Dictionary of the Bible" offers over 400 pages of readable entries, quoting chapter and verse, on a wide variety of topics, from the sacred (Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection) to the mundane (on topics such as straw, footstool, and reaping), and includes numerous maps and charts.

W.R.F. Browning bring his Anglican heritage to the task, and the result is entries that should satisfy all but the most orthodox Christians. Those who believe in the literal accuracy of the Bible will object to Browning's discussion of the various interpretations of such topics as healing, miracles, and the authorship of the books. He describes the book of Revelations, for example, as "an embarrassment to the Church. Its bizarre imagery has been incomprehensible or misunderstood. Apocalyptic sects have used it as a handbook to predict the future. Many Christians have found the apparent gloating over the defeat of the Church's enemies to be morally repulsive."

But for the most part, Browning did not intend the dictionary to hew to a particular theology. On topics such as Jesus' reasoning behind his use of parables, he recaps the major controversies without showing a bias toward a particular position.

"Dictionary of the Bible" is a valuable reference work that provides an excellent starting point for understanding the meaning of Christianity. It is clear, concise, and challenging to the intellect.

A must for everyone that deals with customers
I have had the pleasure of being taught by both John Stanton and Richard George, so I may seem biased. This book can teach you so much especially if you are looking to move up the corporate ladder and truly want to know more about the difference between business strategy and tactics. This book assists you in opening your mind to seeing the whole picture. This book is a must for any business student and for anyone in the workforce that does not want to become complacent with their current job responsibilities.

A Martial Artist's Guide to Korean Terms, Translation, and Han-gul

Authors: Richard L. Mitchell, Heather Stanton Breiting, and Tammy Kay Hayward
Amazon base price: $22.00

Hangul Reference Book
This book provides a very well written description of the Korean alphabet (Hangul), developed in 1446. In provides phonetic instructions and etiology. This book also provides various translated pleasantries and salutations, but is weak in this area.

I found the book very useful and enjoy using it as a reference. Non-Koreans who have need of learning some Korean will find this helpful. Additionally, the book is oriented somewhat towards Taekwon-Do curricula, so many people who have an interest in martial arts will also find this book helpful.

Hangul reference
This book is useful for both novices and people with experience trying to learn Hangul and Korean phrases. The information about the characters and pronunciation is very well done. Phrases could be better supplemented. A lot of information regarding the use with Taekwon-Do is present. A good thing also for non-Koreans, since many of us refer to these books because of our martial arts needs.
