This book is a wonderfully easy-to-read "How to" guide to living in a healthy way. Ray Kurzweil does an excellent job in pooling together so much well-substantiated research data regarding what truly makes a healthy diet. His focus is on HEALTH and LONGEVITY rather than weight loss. He is concise, motivating and right on target. I encourage my patients to read his book if they are truly serious about getting/staying healthy!

The author is a scientist, not a nutritionist, who literally saved his life from terminal illness by researching how diet correlates with disease. The "hook" is that virtually EVERY reader in the USA has atherosclerosis --but does not know it! One detail overlooked (but noted by Andrew Weil, MD, elsewhere) is the essential ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. Very practical suggestions. You will die unnecessarily early if you fail to follow this advice. Makes tough technical stuff easy to read, understand & live by.

A study of the end times without this book will certainly be incomplete. A must read for any serious biblical exploration of the precarious subject of eschatology.

This book is a fresh perspective on many hard to understand aspects of a certain future. Whereas the book is fully engaging, it leaves one wondering when the next in the series will come out. A must read!

I may be a bit biased but I have to say this is one of the best works I've seen on eschatology and specifically the "Left Behind" phenomenon to date. It is a successful critique of Lahaye & Jenkin's book written in an accessible yet knowledgable style. You don't need to be a graduate level student to read it and yet it offers enough "intellectual meat" to sink your teeth into. On top of the book itself, the appendix alone is an invaluable resource.
Highest recommendation! I look forward to the rest of the series.

Living Large shows you how to choose your standard of living, the basics of money management, giving strategies, saving and investment planning, simple budgeting, and last but not least, how to live joyfully on the rest!

J. Raymond Albrektson shows you how to truly injoy your money with biblical common sense on how to give, spend and save. A good read for those with large or small incomes with principles directly derived from scripture.

As a father of three sons - no they are not heading off to college either - this is a wonderful book. As a son this is a great book for my parents to read as they approach retirement years. In a very user-friendly approachable style Ray has written a great book for all those who break out into a cold sweat when you hear the words "finance," "management" or "budget". A must read for anybody, teens on up!

The books I've read on finance seem to fall into one of two categories: either the "how to satisfy your greed and get rich quick" or the "deny yourself and live on a strict budget" types. (Not to mention the occasional, "the world is about to end so put it all in precious metals" hyperbole.)

"Living Large" is a refreshing change from the norm. It is easy to read, filled with enjoyable personal examples, and contains practical advice for both young couples starting out and more advanced investors. I had the feeling that I was listening to the "sweet voice of reason" on every page.

And this book contains a dimension I've not seen anywhere else. Dr. Albrektson gives wise counsel on how to be genuinely contented with the income you have. Frankly, I don't know many Americans who can honestly say they are content with what they make. Perhaps with the help of "Living Large" we can start a new trend!

Last year my wife and I paid a certified financial planner $500 to do some retirement planning for us. After I read "Living Large" I was surprised how much of our planner's expert advice was exactly the same as Albrektson's in this book. If I'd bought "Living Large" a year ago, I could have saved myself $490.00!

The Bible says to test the Spirits, whether they are of God. This book passes that test.
Raymond shares what the Lord has shared with him and when I read it, I had a real sense that it SOUNDED like what God Would Say.

Raymond Ho hears the voice of God and writes what he hears, as it seems, few people are open enough to do. Most of us hear something quietly within ourselves and blame it a bad day or something else or more often ignore it altogether because we don't count ourselves spiritual enough to rate hearing from God's Spirit.

There are tremendous insights in the art of living with a heart toward God in this book.

I would caution those who are steeped in Church Doctrine to maybe find another selection. But if you are hungry to hear the voice of a Loving God who, as Raymond shows, is always speaking to us, this book is for you.

I learned alot and have some new nuggets of truth to hang onto as I get to know a speaking God who, as it turns out, is not a religious Spirit.

I give this book two thumbs up, but I agree with the other reviewer, this ain't for the organized religion set, but for those who want to know what God is saying to the people today.

This book is a jewel and it's definitely not written for the staunchly legalistic religious set. I was comfortable with his down-to-earth approach.
I found it to be written for the average person seeking more of an understanding about God and Raymond Ho gently teaches how to walk down that path. What is refreshing to me is that I didn't find a bunch of organized religion in this book.
He makes hearings God's voice understandable and accessible to anyone who really wants to hear from God. I would recommend this book to anyone with a hunger for more Spirituality and an aversion to organized religion

Raymond Smullyan, of whom I am a longtime reader, is probably best known as a creator of fiendishly brilliant logic puzzles. He's also a mathematical logician of high caliber (and a magician, and a pianist, and . . . )

But some of his lesser-known works have consisted of philosophical reflections on a wide range of subjects (which nevertheless include a common thread that is devilishly difficult to pin down). There was _The Tao Is Silent_ (for my money, still his best); there was _5000 B.C._ (currently out of print); and just recently he's published _Who Knows?_ (which I recommend too).

This is one from 1980, and it's one of few "older" Smullyan works currently available in print. It's not a collection of logic puzzles; it's a collection of essays and short reflections of very much the same "flavor" as _The Tao Is Silent_.

As always, Smullyan is a sheer delight to read. In his hands, philosophy becomes what it should always be: a form of intellectual play (and nonetheless "serious" for that, although it surely isn't solemn!).

Get this while it's available. And if you like Smullyan, also check out the titles I've already mentioned, as well as his autobiographical _Some Interesting Memories: A Paradoxical Life_. He's a gifted man as well as pleasant and stimulating intellectual company.

This is another great book of puzzles by Smullyan. If you liked Satan, Cantor, and Infinity, and What is the Name of this Book? then you will like this.

Their approach and admonitions are concise and Biblical, and at the same time, cognizant of the implications in the practical, realitistic world of the "dog eat dog" world that most professions are.

Taking Christ with us where we spend a great deal of time at work is the significant theme, and provides much for one to think and pray and apply, all the time seeking to be pleasing to our God and of service to our employers, employees and customers.

An important work in this age of pragmatism, realtivism and pluralism, while at the same time seeking not to develop attack Christians who flaunt a Moral Majority type seize and capture mentality. Well balanced and written guide for the Christian exploring how to be of further service to the Good Lord.

A wonderful book for anyone who has struggled with "doing" the Christian life, giving tangible ways in which to rest in God's presence and His provision; just "being" rather than doing. Without negating the need for right living, it helps to alleviate the feelings of condemnation many of us have when we don't measure up to certain standards of behavior, whether those standards are God's, our own or those of other people, while making it clear that God's standards are the only ones that truly matter.

Ortlund's look at Romans 8 is insightful, his comments are cogent and thoughtful, his passion for the beauty of the Gospel comes through in every page of this volume. I would highly recommend this devotional commentary on Romans 8.

Ray and Nancy Kane's book is that kind of experience. The Kanes examine fears that can paralyze individuals, especially fears that get played out in relationships. The reader doesn't feel isolated from the counselors/authors because they own up to their own struggles with fear as a couple. They use their struggles as a spring board to say, "Even as professional counselors, we know marriage is tough, we've been there. But we didn't stay trapped in fear and you don't have to either. There is a way out. It is love -- real love." The Kanes go on to suggest practical ways to conquer fear through love, especially in marriage.

They also look at fears in our society and offer reasons why love is the only force that can conquer fear. The power of the love they are talking about becomes very clear in the chapter, "Love that overcomes." There they talk about 9/11 as a example of love and courage winning out over fear. They mention the firefighters who charged up stairs to save strangers, and men like Todd Beamer -- who let love override fear. "Like beacons of light, certain individuals illumined a path for us to follow. They have showed us that when love and courage prevail, anything can be overcome" (181). This is not mushy love, or Hollywood-style love, it is love made of stuff that does not melt under fire.

The Kanes state that it is not their experience as professional counselors, but their mutual faith in God that is what enables them to love sacrifically and powerfully. And, at the end of the book they write,"We invite you to join those who have loved without limits and given without restriction both their care and compassion. Let us move from fear to true, life-transforming love." The invitation is a welcome one.

From Fear to Love provides a refreshing, honest outlook on real relationships. An incredible ability to share about the intense trials of their own lives and marriage, the authors were able to grab ahold the hands of their readers and journey through the pain and fear that so often dominates many relationships. However, Ray and Nancy Kane refuse to get distracted or lose hope in their fear, but instead fight through their battles of fear and control until a real, sincere love was found. This book gives hope and inspiration to those struggling to find sincere, unselfish love. They write in a simple, enjoyable manner that all readers can relate to.

I am a 10 year cancer survivor. I have had surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. None of it worked. For the past 8 years I have stayed alive on alternative therapy. As a result, have read over 100 books on health. I've been able to get bits and pieces of information from those books to enable me to stay alive these past 8 years. Francis's book has put all the bits and pieces together in one volume.

For the first time I have been able to understand the biochemistry of my illness and follow a path which has greatly diminished my illness and has brought me close to remission. The information on what to do is comprehensive and all in one place. More importantly, is the extensive information on what not to do and things to avoid.

I recommend this book to everyone, particularly those people with a chronic illness. I wish that I would have had this book 10 years ago.

I have read many books on health, which usually focus on only one aspect of health. This book encapsulates all the information you need to know to achieve optimal health. The author presents a wealth of material, which is fully supported and backed by years of research and documented studies. He exposes why modern medicine "amounts to little more than 20th century voodoo." Raymond Francis teaches us a practical new system for choosing health based on the "one disease" theory, with two causes and six pathways. This new way to see health and disease is so simple it empowers the individual to take charge of their own lives and bodies. For me, this is the most important book in my library. I highly recommend it. It will not only teach you how to extend your life without disease, but to extend the quality of your life through feeling great and vibrant and productive for the rest of your life. I'm giving this book to my family and friends for Christmas.

Never Be Sick Again shatters all preconceptions about what health is and how we may attain it. Before I read this book, I thought that "health" was an ephemeral concept that was mostly in the hands of fate. Raymond showed me that this is not so in a very profound way. After reading this book I not only have a clear picture of what is at stake, but an understanding of how to make healthful choices every day.

The difference between this book and other diet, weight loss, or get-well books that I've read is that it fundamentally breaks new ground on what health is and what causes disease. I truly think that Raymond's new model for health will revolutionize the way we all think about health, and will knock the current medical establishment for a loop. There are only a few books that I've read that permanently alter my thinking on a subject, and this was one of them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
