Great exam review
My wife purchased this book because the first time she failed the clerical exam. I later found out that half of the people who take this exam fail and she decided that she needed to purchase a study aid. Well, she PASSED!!!!. This book really prepared her.

The Athletic Horse
An excellent book for students of degree level. Not suitable for the novice. During my studies I have found this to be an outstanding reference book and an indispensible aid to writing assignments. The book is detailed scientifically but is easy to follow and has plenty of studies done to back up the information given. A top class book.

3rd Louisiana Infantry, 9th Louisiana Infantry.
The four Pierson sons, intelligent, and well-educated for their time, originally opposed secession but served their country whole-heartedly in all theaters when the War came.
The letters of three sons are contained here, preserving valuable insights not only of battles and camp life but also frank opinions of the behavior of high officers and politicians. The tenacity of the Piersons, through sickness and wounds and hunger, in a War they didn't welcome, is fine testimony to the courage and patriotism of the Condederate soldier.

Manual of Equine Practice 2nd Edition
A handbook to rival the most extensive textbooks devoted to equine veterinary medicine and surgery! The second edition of The Manual of Equine Practice still retains the same easily readable format as the first edition, but the original authors have gathered world renowned experts in their fields, to assist.

The book is divided into body systems and includes individual conditions as 'sub-chapters'. They are then broken down into history and presenting signs, clinical findings and diagnosis, differential diagnosis (invaluable reference), and treatments. This is the same format as you would use if a animal were presented to you in your practice.

Overall, a superb book and completely invaluable for vets, vet techs and students. Perhaps the only drawback is that I wouldn't recommend it for the average owner and/or trainer, unless they have a very good understanding of veterinary practice in general.

To understand nutrition + processed/packaged food stuff
A must read for understanding processed food and packaged food in the supermarkets besides nutrition. Though written in 70's, the book is still relevant for the day. Highly motivating towards switching to healthy & wholesome food habits. Has a "Layman's Question & Answer" approach to the subject, yet covers the subject in depth, with clarity and humour - making the book easy to read and benefit from it.

Incredibly Good Book on Nutrition with Diet Tips Added
THe book is 256 pages long and it takes the form of Dr. Reuban's previous sex books (Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask.etc). A person basically asks a questions in bold headings and he answers it with a wide variet of wit and style. It feels just like Dr. Reuban is right there talking to you the person.

The book premise is very simple. The majority of the things the media tells us is wrong. Very wrong. So wrong that he tells us that much of our diseases and troubles involving the body (cancer, diabetes, etc) can be prevented if we simply take the precautinos he tells us in this book. His diet, or what you can do to be healthy can be summed up in one sentence:Eat food in their natural form, these being fruits and vegetables, and other forms of food in their natural form. He rants on the FDA and The Food Industry. He makes the Food Industry into monsters.

The book is good. Very good in fact that I gave it five stars for I totally agree with the premise that the main thing causing for Americans, including me, to become unhealthy is simply the additives and preservatives added. Reuban goes on to say that the chemicals found in our food cause cancer and even sperm count. He also says in the book that the reason non-industrialized countries like Georgia have much less of cancer and diabetes is because their food is natural.

To sum up his diet: Eat things in their natural form regardless of the fat. Don't buy food where the ingrediants are unpronunciable. Don't buy refined sugar, or enriched bread. Don't drink soda. I recommend you also get his other book: The Save-Your-Life Diet. Don't worry if its out of print. It can probaby be found in a used book store.

A family bible for 20 years
I bought this book in college, and it still circulates among my family members. It changed the way I eat, and time has only proven the book's concepts. It is a little zealous, but truly a wonderful book.

Reuven Shiloah - Man Behind the Mossad: The Man Behind the Mossad: Secret Diplomacy in the Creation of Israel

Nation building through intelligence and secret diplomacy.
At the time when political, military and religius forces are active in the middle east, an updated version of the book by Haggai Eshed: "REUVEN SHILOAH - THE MAN BEHIND THE MOSSAD - Secret Diplomacy in the Creation of Israel" has been published in English. The book which was originally published in Hebrew in 1988 tells the story of Reuven Shiloah, the founder of Israel's intelligence community and first head of the world famous MOSSAD. The personality of Shiloah, who for years worked alongside the Jewish leadership in the pre-state years and during the first ten years after independence has almost been forgotten. Using newly opened and uncovered archives and first time interviews the book describes the exciting and mysterious life of Reuven Shiloah on the backround of some of the major events in the international arena in general and in the middle-east in particular during the years 1931-1959. Some of the major activities described in the book are: *Undercover work in Iraq in the 1930's. *Intelligence ties with the Allies before and during world war 2. *Paradroping Jewish activistes into occupied Europe. *Forming and heading Israel's intelligence community after indipendence. *Conducting secret negoatiations with king Abdallah of Jordan. *Creating the base for the stratigic ties between Israel and the U.S. *Forming secret treaties with Turkey, Iran and Ethiopia. The book was written by the veteran journalist Haggai Eshed who passed away several months after the book was originaly published in 1988. The book is well researched and well written. A few of the issues raised remain unanswerd due to the scarcity of data and still classified documents. The flowing translation and adaptation by David and Leah Zinder enable readers who are less informed about modern developments in the middle-east to fully comprehend and benefit from the book. Former Prime Minister of Israel Mr. Shimon Peres, who worked with Shiloah in the early 1950's, has written an introduction to the English edition of the book. A leading authority on the history of Israel's intelligence community, Prof. Yoav Gelber, has added an after-chapter summarising Reuven Shiloah's contribution to the structuring of Israel's intelligence. The diverse fields and forms of the activities of Reuven Shiloah, who passed away in 1959 at the age of 49, are relevant to the present. The book is recommended for all those who are interested in the craft of intelligence and secret diplomacy as well as to students of modern middle-east and international affairs.

works
Prior to buying this book I was 6'4" 165 lbs. I've tried many different things to gain weight (I once got up to 180 through weight lifting and protein shakes, but came back down). It's hard unless you make eating more a habit and know how to do it, which this book explains. After just about two months with this books help, I've gained 17 pounds and I now weigh 182 (and climbing). The one shortcoming of the book is that it should include a basic exercise section, so that the new weight doesn't just go to your gut, which it probably will if you don't work out some. Overall, definitely a good buy which will provide you with real help in gaining weight. It includes mealplans and tips to get more calories, which is the strongest area of the book.

Helpful information for underweight vegetarians
As a 5'0", 85 lbs. vegetarian, I feared I'd never find any information on how to gain weight. Dr. Reuben's book has a section for vegetarians. His book doesn't recommend eating a high-fat diet for your entire life. (See previous reviews.) I asked other vegetarians about gaining weight, but no one could help me. Americans are mostly OVERWEIGHT so if you are underweight, this book has a lot of good information. Big helpful hint: The Body Mass Index is explained very well in plain English. You can use it yourself to determine your normal weight, make your goals, and determine how much you need to gain. SOME fat on your body is healthy and normal. Too much is as bad as too little. (I know a woman who is very, very thin and she's often in the hospital.) Give the book a fair try. In my opinion, his writing of vegetarian concerns wasn't negative or insensitive.

Very good book for the seriously underweight
I don't believe this book turns you into a glutton!! I am very underweight, and need 20 pounds on me. Nothing else has helped me. Not "eating healthy" or eating "empty calories" it doesn;t encourage you to be a gluttonous pig. it says about the recipes "eat as much as you can" thats not a glutton to me!!! Eating as much as you can till you feel full. Apparently some of these people in the reviews are not that seriously uderweight from what I get. No other book has shown me how tp pack in the calories and get the most out of gaining weight. And it doesn;t encourage eating junk food. It even recommeds certain vegeatbles to eat during the six-month-period. If your seriously underwieght, this book is for you.

Another thing: it will not turn "skinny people" into fat people, if you're underweight, its not gonna happen. Anyone who is underweight will not look back and say "gee I wish I was 20 pounds underweight again. That is not what I call the good ol days. I think this book is very helpful.

Not very helpful at all!
In a nut shell, this book says to look at nutrition labels and eat any and all things high in fat. Bacon, whole milk, red meat, etc. Sounds like the way to achieve heart disease rather than gain weight. I was very disappointed!

Excellent Info!
I was underweight almost all my life. I tried a few things that I thought would help me gain weight, but never seemed to help. I became to think sometimes that gaining weight was impossible. Then there were times that I thought it might be possible to actually gain weight if I really put a lot of effort. I was confused and people told me all sort of information. I had no idea what would be the first step or how to start. I knew I didn't have some kind of disease although I bet some people thought I did. I felt so incomplete and disappointed at myself for being so skinny. People made fun of me and when I was a kid I was picked on just for being smaller.

It was not until I read Dr. David Reuben's Weight-Gain book when I finally began to understand what it takes to really gain weight. I was searching for "Weight gain" in Amazon to get some information with desperation. I came across this book as one of the listings and thought I'd give it a try. I read this book carefully and thoroughly and felt positive about trying to gain weight this time. There were a lot of things that I never knew before in this book. However, there were some things that were obvious in gaining weight such as what the previous reviewer commented about the book recommending to find food high in fat, but this reviewer is also misunderstanding Dr.Reuben.

Dr.Reuben mentions in Chapter 7 about the fact that it takes years and years or decades of eating massive amounts of fat to produce even the slightest hazard to your health. The book assumes that you'll gain weight in a few months. The risk of death and serious disease as an underweight is far greater than that of even a lifetime of a high-fat diet. It took me less than a year to gain about 35 pounds. I'm very proud of myself and I thank Dr. David Reuben a lot. I feel as if this genius man saved my life.
