The Roots of Spiritual Care and Spiritual Health
THE ROOTS OF HEALING is a book that explores how the nature of our soul infuses health and well-being. It is a series of questions and answers provided by leading edge thinkers who understand the power of spirit to heal. This book reminds us of our true nature. More importantly, we are reminded of the roots of healing itself - our soul. When our soul experiences well-being, the possibility for physical, psychological, social, and spiritual unity becomes an expression and extension of the unmanifest becoming manifest. Thanks to all who contributed to the future of medicine. Samuel Oliver, author of, WHAT THE DYING TEACH US: LESSONS ON LIVING.

Beautifully written book of traditional wisdom and heart.
Dr. Rachel Remen's "Kitchen Table Wisdom" is a significant contribution to personal and societal well-being. Her stories recapture an important source of wisdom and simplicity. Dr. Remen stresses the importance of communication to individual and community health with a comfortable style and without sermon. Stories That Heal leaves a candle in the window for millions of isolated, lonely people. It gives the reader hope for healing an ailing society and it accomplishes this with ease and sincerity. This book is a must read - repeatedly.

Life affirming
I first read this book when it was given to me as a gift and again more recently as I went through a difficult time in my life. Both times I was struck by the true stories, beautifuly and simply related, that demonstrate over and over our own capacity to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. Dr. Remen's medical credentials combined with her own history as a patient give her a deep understanding of healing and disease from both sides. I would recommend this book especially to anyone who is suffering from a physical or emotional illness. But even more so, I recommend it to the doctors out there who realize that your patients are more than just a compilation of symptoms and who are looking for a better way to relate to them.

Stories that Heal
This beautiful, touching and life- altering book is without doubt one of the best books I've read. Dr.Remen captured my mind, heart and soul from the very first page. The stories she tells about herself, her patients, her family and friends are told with amazing honesty, beauty and grace. This book is about Life with all its different facets, phases and seasons. As a physician, reading this book has made a lot of impact on how I view my role and how I communicate with my patients. I now think of myself not as a "doctor" but as a healer, and know that there is much more to my work than diagnosing diseases and prescribing medicines. I read this book many times, and every time I laugh and I cry and I am inspired and touched. This book is truly one of a kind; it is worth a million stars!!

Renewal for Compassion
The story behind how I found this book is an example of the small miracles that Rachel relates in her book: I was going through a hard time, my father had just been diagnosed with a terminal illness and my mother and I were fighting over my decision to go to Seminary. I was wandering in the book store and happened accross it. I bought it and preceeded to read it in one sitting (excluding the time that I had to stop reading because the tears were blurring my eyesight.) Rachel's stories will rekindle the humanity in you; she reveals the mystery in everyday life not to show you the answer but to proclaim that the mystery itself is the answer. If you are going through a hard time and you are looking for a bit or guidance and renewal then I hardily recommend this book and her other "Kitchen Table Wisdom." Bless you.

SPIRITUALLY UPLIFTING!
Rachel and her grandfather walk through life on a different path. Rachel is the academic achiever, who devotes her life to helping others in her profession as a medical doctor. Her grandfather, a rabbi and man of great wisdom, sees the world through a more devine and holy light. While their paths may be different, their ultimate purpose in life is the same. I never had the opportunity to bond with any of my grandparents, the geographical miles between us were far too great; however, it would be one of life's greatest blessings to have had a grandfather as wise, gentle and understanding as Rachel's.

The stories contained here will bring a smile and evoke a tear, as science, medicine, religion and spirituality exquisitely merge together throughout the pages of the book. Rachel embraces the world and the reader with her compassion and love for humanity. As you read through the pages, you will be left with a better understanding of life's true meaning and purpose; it is a well-written and thought-provoking book.

Profoundly moving and inspirational
In "My Grandfather's Blessings," Dr. Rachel Remen uses stories of her rabbi grandfather, her patients and herself to illustrate ways in which illness and death can bring hope, insight, and transformation into peoples' lives. She gives especial attention to the conflicts between the way in which science and medicine has been traditionally practiced and religion and spirituality.

This book is a wonderful, luminous primer for restoring a sense of soul to science. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
