wow. just wow.
wow! i often find myself gravitating toward the book, repeatedly pressing the same buttons over and over! this is what i would classify 'a real pageturner.' i couldn't put it down; i read it in one sitting! thank you, ms. hananan.

Thrilling from beginning to end
When I first picked up this book I was uncertain as to how I would like it. I'm normally a straight-sight girl so when I saw this book had sound I was a little hesitant. All my worries were soon dispelled however because when I started reading and pushing the sound buttons I was immediately drawn into the 'barnyard mystery.' The determination of Rose and Sally Dog in their search for Mommy's watch drew me right in. I particularily loved the character of Emma Chicken. I haven't seen such life in a chicken since I last watched 'Chicken Run.' Reliving all of these memories makes me want to go reread the book right now. You know, I think I will.

Fantastic!
This is an absolutely fantastic book by a pair of wonderful authors. When we read it we had a whole group of young people gathered around, laughing, joking and enjoying the fabulous story. We couldn't wait to find out what had become of the watch. We couldn't put it down!

The Magic School Bus Strikes Again
"The Magic School Bus" series is a gift for parents and techers who want to interest younger readers in science without pain.

The bright colourful illustrations catch the imaginations of younger readers and complex concepts are brought across simply but accurately. Readers identify with Arnold and the other children. They enthusiastically take part in the discussion as if they were right inside the covers of the book.

(My son is sure he can out-reason Dorothy-Ann, and this stimulates him to work out what happens next.)

The Magic School Bus Gets Eaten is no exception. Concepts of food chains are brought across simply but clearly and readers are led to make deductions based on previous information.

Excellent stuff! My son wants the next issue now!

A Necessity for Learning the Water Cycle
This book was fantastic. I had looked everywhere for a book to use to help teach my third grade class about the water cycle. This book was perfect. The children enjoyed the illustrations and the amusement of the distortion of the body in evaporation and condensation. This book covered all the bases. It discussed evaporation, condensation, and precipitation and how they all work together to create the continuous water cycle. This book is a must for guardians or teachers dealing with third through fifth graders.

We read this book ad nauseum
This is my 2 y/o son's favorite book EVER! We have to read it every night and take it on all our overnight trips. Needless to say, even he has the text memorized. Yes, the Tonka logo shamelessly displayed on every truck is a bit much, but I've found this book to include the widest variety of trucks. These are displayed nicely in their appropriate "scenes", and the information on each truck's capabilities is a great learning tool. My son is so thrilled when we come across these machines at work in our day-to day life, and he couldn't wait to go to the State Fair. It's been the best money I've spent on a book for him yet, even though I wish we could skip it and perhaps read Stellaluna instead just one night.

Plenty of details to keep you interested
My son has loved this book since he got it a year ago when he was 1.5 years old. I have found as time goes on he always finds new things to ask about - each page is packed with detail, but not so busy as to be a turnoff. This book has provoked alot of discussion about how houses are built, how roads are made, what happens on a farm etc. There is enough there to keep kids interested for a long time!!

A big commercial for Tonka -- but kids love it
My in-laws gave this book to my 22-month-old son, who loves trucks, construction vehicles and machinery, and it became an instant favorite of his. They were a bit hesitant at first about buying the book because it's essentially a big commercial for Tonka products -- every truck and construction vehicle in the book (and there are many) has "TONKA" prominently written on it. That caveat aside, however, it _is_ a great book for kids who share my son's interests -- it shows the trucks in action and explains the name and uses of each. I also like the fact that it shows both women and men operating the trucks.

pretty good book
I love the Magic School Bus series. The only thing disappointing about this book is that it doesn't have the little notes that the students find out about on the different pages.

flaps not easy to initially open, too few pages.
It was difficult to get the flaps open on all of the pieces without damaging them. We had to use a butter knife to initially open them, and then they did not hinge well. A few got ripped even when opening them with care because the perforations were not complete. Also, there are only 5 pages to this book (moving, fire, recycling, farm and dump trucks). It's not quite worth it considering the quality of the book's manufacture.

fun lift-the-flap book with some flap issues
My son loves this book, and what's not to love! There are five large two-page spreads, each featuring a different kind of truck (moving van, fire engine, recycle truck, pickup in a farm setting, and dump trucks at a construction site). Each has about ten flaps to lift. Furthermore, the flaps are a cut above the usual, sometimes showing the same person in a different activity or the same object in a different pose (e.g. the fire engine ladder folded in the original but extended when the flap is lifted), and sometimes accompanied by explanatory text ("The rescue boom is a tall ladder that can reach five or six stories high. It can turn in every direction."). The pictures are filled with activity and there are enough flaps so that each time you and your child will find something new and interesting to look at.

I would give this book five stars if there weren't problems with the flaps. They are perforated but not already separated, and are difficult for a child to open initially. An adult should go through the book first and open them. Also, the flaps are thin cardboard and will tear easily if your child is so inclined.

My son can't put it down
We just received this book today from Amazon and I have already read it with my 20 month old son more than ten times. He loves trucks and this book has all the favorites - big moving truck, dump truck, tractor - you get the picture. There is even a recycling truck where you can open the different compartments to see plastic, metal, etc. What I really like about this book is that it will grow with him because although he is interested in opening the flaps to find things he recognizes, there are interesting descriptions on each page to read that he will enjoy more when he is older.
