Kept me guessing the whole time.
This book was one of the best books i have read in a while. I loved it. I can't beleive i didn't find it sooner. I can't wait to read the other two.

A pretty cool ghost story
I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book, since the main character is much younger than me. However, there was enough suspense and chills to keep me reading. Miss Honeywell is one of those villians you love to hate, and I felt sorry for poor Primrose (although she was a bit of a brat). And I really liked the ending, which was kind of funny. I reccomend this book if you want an unusual ghost story.

Spine-tingiling
I read this book. It gives you an eeery chill. I very much liked it. I reccamend to people who really like a good scare.

Incredible Story
TIME WINDOWS by Kathryn Reiss had an intricate plot, a great deal of suspense, dashes of humor and took a little too much work to figure out. However, Ms.. Reiss definitely wove a story that was worth reading. A kind of original book, the main plot is a girl who moves into a cursed house finds a dollhouse that replays scenes through its windows of people who lived in the house before her. Soon her own "Mither" (weird) is acting like the women in the scenes from the doll house and getting touchier, meaner and more hostile. Miranda solves the mystery behind the evil that is exerted over all the women along with a boy across the street and as she changes the past, she also changes the future. A good read, fascinating for people who like to think. For someone who just wants to read a book and not have to stop, turn back a few pages, and get a headache, this book is a no-no. I rate it a 4 out of 5. Ms. Reiss deserves it.

AWESOME STORY!
I originally read this book when I was 12, and in 6th grade, for a book report. I loved it soo much that I rented it a lot, and finally bought the book off here last X-mas! I'm now 16, and I've read it maybe 20 times (really), and it never ceases to mystify me at the plot. I never want to skip parts after reading it over, because Kathryn Reiss writes it so well, that each time you read it, you pick up even more detail than you noticed before. The story line is an awesome one, and I recommend this book to young, old, or anyone who likes, ghost stories, old dollhouses, or MYSTERIES with an added bit of romance. It's simply awesome~read it! (I want to read all of Kathryn Reiss's books, but so far I have read just this and DREADFUL SORRY, which is also one of the best books I have ever read!)

it's one of the best books i've read in the past 3 years!!
this book is an amazing thing to read. kathryn plots it well, and everything is all tied together in one way or another in the end. if you skip 1 paragraph you'll become lost because kathryn doesn't put in all of the boring detail that is in most other books. she keeps you interested, and wondering what in the world'll happen next. you can never tell what's going to happen or when, because there's no way. something just hits miranda when you thought it wouldn't. time windows isn't kathryn's only thrilling book, either. THE GLASS HOUSE PEOPLE is also an awesome one, although this is more twisting and more mind-boggling. it's the only science-fiction book i've ever liked. it really makes you wonder where to draw the line between fantasy- and reality.

INTERESTING
The reason I am writing you is I love the book, "Pale Phoenix". I thought it was a really interesting book. When my mom and dad bought it for me, I thought the book would be really boring. But when I started reading it,I couldn't put it down.My favorite part is when Miranda, Abby and Dan all go back in time and nobody can see them. The ending was really cool, you know how Abby becomes a real person and not a ghost. I thought it was a good book and everyone who likes to read should read it. I thought the characters were interesting well-drawn and believable. The book was thoughtful and enjoyable. I think you did a perfect job. Thank you for your time and I hope you write back.

Another Great Book
This is another fine example of Kathryn Reiss's writing. I think it was a great book. I read atleast 4 times because I loved it so much. I really hope Kathryn Reiss becomes well-known. She has a great imagination and sense of literature. This classic tale about a pheonix rising from the ashes is a great story for young and older people to enjoy. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

A wonderfully captivating book!
This was a GREAT book! I loved it! Reiss did a wonderful job unfolding her story about Abby, a young puritan girl unable to move on to the next world, trapped by her own reluctance. Her only hope is almost 300 years later when Miranda discovers her secret and tries to help, but not until the two learn to get along after Miranda's parents decide to take Abby in. A very inticing story and definitely worth reading! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

A slightly huanting book that you will love
Although it has been over a year scince i read this book, i still clearly remember how much i loved it. I was drawn to do a search on this title becuase i am looking for the book to give as a birthday gift. My best friend has loved this book for years and she has read it so many times that she has been forced to use both scotch and duct tape to repare the cover of the book. My friend and i are both 16, and although this book is written for 12-13 year olds, i have no shame in telling you that this a tremendous book. The reader will be instintly sucked into the plot and characters and will feel a wide range of emotions. One moment i was full of admiration for Jared and the next i could feel nothing but disgust for Clementine, the past life of Molly. All in all, i would definitly recomend this well written book!

The best book ever written
As soon as I bought this book I watned to read it. I could not put it down, so I was dead tired, but I had to finish it in one night. It's a great story about Molly, a girl who is afraid of water, who is thrown in a pool by Jared, her friend's cousin. She almost drowns, and hightails it up to Hibben, Maine, where she has weird dreams about a girl named Clementine, who-- GASP!-- looks surprisingly like Molly! Jared follows her.... This book is a great combination of mystery, thriller, and romance. I ave read it about five times and I still do not tire of it! If yo're looking for a great book, here it is!

Still a classic for me.
I read this for the first time in 6th grade. It was being sold at my school book fair, and so I was introduced to it this way. I remember in past years looking for it, and it is a little hard to find, but websites like these make it readily available so it's not as much of a problem.

Anyway, the storyline is pretty gripping, though can be a little monotonous and long. There are two styles of writing in this book. There is the third person narrative of the author in present day, and then the voice of Clementine, a girl from the past reliving her life through memories. It's not at all confusing, since it is divided into chapters and you can obviously tell the historical sections from the present day ones, but some chapters get a little lengthy.

The main character, Molly, is mentioned in other books by Kathryn Reiss. If you have ever read her other stories, you will recognize some of the character's names and attitudes/personalities. This makes it nice because you know it's all connected in some way or another. Makes it a little more predictable, but familiar. I like this quality in her books.

The storyline in general isn't all that complicated, but relies a little much on a subtle imagination. It doesn't take much to figure things out in this book, and the ending really isn't surprising at all. In fact, it's almost expected. But it's fitting and so it doesn't ruin the story at all.

I would recommend this to young adults, those who like small and simple ghost stories, or those who just want a pretty fast read to get away from things. It's pretty easy reading and goes relatively quickly, only about 250 pages or so.

This book remains one of my childhood favorites, and my friends have often noted how much they liked it in the past as well.

Captivating puzzle!
You'll never guess the mystery!! It's a great book!!! I'm very picky with books, but I happened to like this one. The reason why I only gave it 4 stars was because the character was a little...I don't know...I didn't like her as much as I should have...but she was ok. Violet was one of triplets. She was the odd one though. She didn't look like her sisters. Her sisters looked identical, but she didn't. She also had open-heart surgery. Now she wants fit in with her sisters, so they go to San Francisco to fix up a building for their parents. As they work there, an earthquake hits. A few moments later, Violet finds a note addresssed to Baby V. Her parents and sisters call her that. In the beginning, she's positive that the notes are for her. With each earthquake, a note is found, meaning another clue has dropped in her lap. Slowly she and her sisters unravel a mystery. Violet's life is just about to change. Was she Baby V? Who was the person writing to her? And how could someone from nearly a century ago write to her? As she reads each note, coincedences pop up and she fears that their time for solving the mystery could be running out.

PaperQuake, By Kathryn Reiss
PaperQuake is a fascinating book about a teenage girl named Violet. Violet lives in California and is constanly nervous about earthquakes taking place. She is the daughter of florists, hence her name. She is also a triplet. Her sisters, Rose and Jasmine, are identical, and she is constantly feeling like the third wheel. In the past she hd heart problems, so she missed tons of school. She was forced to repeat a grade over again, so she is now stuck in a grade lower than her sisters. It bothers her that she is the outcast and that her family subconsiously treats her like a child, even though she is the same age as her sisters. One day Violet and her sisters take a bus to San Fransisco to clean their parent's new flower shop. While cleaning, Violet comes across an old letter written in the early 1900's. The odd thing is that it seems to be written to her. It even includes things that have taken place in Violet's life. Violet is dumbfounded, because there isn't any way that a letter from so long ago could be written to her-or could it? Violet sets out on a journey to find out more about who wrote these letters, and along the way she finally bonds with her sisters and finds herself. This story will have you puzzled from cover to cover. You will keep thinking you know what's going to happen, and then it's exactly the opposite. That's the great thing about this book. The book is a little slow at first, but once you get past the first few chapters you will find your eyes glued to the pages. This is one of the most amazing and imaginative books I have ever read, and I highly encourage you to check it out.

Very Cool!
This great book is about a teenage girl, Violet. It relates to family problems with her two sisters but it is actually a mystery. Whenever there are earthquakes Violet sees visons, and old letters fall out of the walls. There is an uncanny resemblance between Violets own life and the letters. Through this book you will learn more and more about the mystery. It is extremely good and I will reccomend it to everyone!

The Glass House People
This book was a good book. It kept me want to read on and on. The only reason I gave it **** is because I got kind of confused during the middle of it. Here's my summary on the book:

A teenage girl named Beth has to go with her mom and brother to stay with her mom's family. She has to leave behind her boyfriend, Ray, with whom she works at a stained glass store. Her mom ran away from home when she was 17 and hadn't been back since then. When they get to the house, Beth meets her crazy, drunk aunt named Iris. Iris severly dislikes Beth's mom, who's name is Hannah. Beth is not really sure why. In this book, Beth finds out what truly happened the night before Hannah ran away and why she did.
This book leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat waiting to see what comes next!! Enjoy!!

very good
it was a very good book...lots of depth and mystery... i love kathryn reiss. her style is unique and this book was unpredictable like the rest.

It was GOOD!
A Review by Sherri
I thought this "The glass house people" was a good book, I thought Hannah was the best character though, because she was accused for killing someone, so it was like a mystery. It seemed like you were actually in the story, like when they got to their grandmas and grandpas house. They explained how the house was, and what it looked like. I would give this book a rating of 5 stars, because it was GOOD! I think anyone who likes mysteries should read this book; it's an AWESOME book!

Riddle of the Prairie Bride

A very Worth While Book!
This book is all about Ida Kate. When her Mother dies, she is left all he chores, and can't attend school. A friend of Ida Kate's mother dies also. Her father sent away for a mail bride (that is where two people send lots of letters, and then the lady comes and they get married). Her friend's step-mother was very nice, so Ida Kates father decided to try. When Caroline (his mail bride) gets there she brings a big surprise with her. This is a very good story!

Intriguing Riddle
It's 1878. Ida Kate Deming and her father live on a farm on the Kansas prairie, several miles from the nearest town. Since the death of Ida Kate's mother, she has had to take on the household chores: cleaning, mending, cooking, etc. It's a big job for a young girl, and it doesn't leave enough time for Ida Kate to attend school or see her friends much. Small wonder, then, that Ida Kate is excitedly looking forward to the arrival of the mail-order bride that is coming from back east to marry her father. Trouble arrives with the new member of the family, however. Her hair is the wrong color, she's too short, she cooks too well and sings too well, she isn't allergic to the cat, and her handwriting is different from the handwriting in the letters they received. Who is this woman, really? What happened to the woman Ida Kate and her father were expecting?

While portraying the hardships of life on the frontier in the late 1800's, "Riddle Of The Prairie Bride" also gives kids an intriguing mystery to sink their teeth into. "Formulaic" it may be, but this is fine for kids. A plot with too many complications could be overwhelm a young reader. My ten-year-old daughter got quite caught up in this tale, and wanted to "keep reading" each evening until we finished it. Readers of other "history mysteries" will not be disappointed with this one. If you have never read one, give one a try.

A great new book from the History Mysteries series.
Ever since her mother's death two years ago, twelve-year-old Ida Kate Deming has done all the housework for herself and her father on their Kansas homestead. The year is 1878, and life on the prairie is difficult, dangerous, and lonely. Ida Kate's father has decided the time has come for him to remarry. He puts an advertisement for a wife in an eastern newspaper, and a young widow, Caroline Fairchild, who has a one-year-old son, responds. Ida Kate is eager to have a mother and a brother, and her father is eager to once again have a wife. But all is not right with Caroline. Soon, Ida Kate begins to suspect that Caroline may not be Caroline at all, but someone else entirely different. But if "Caroline" is an impostor, what happened to the real Caroline? And are Ida Kate and her father in danger? This was a wonderful addition to the History Mysteries series that brought alive life on the prairie in the 1870s. Ida Kate was a spirited, adventurous heroine. I reccomend this book to all those who enjoyed the other History Mysteries books.

Strange Case of Baby H

You'll Be Quaking In Your Boots
Clara Curfman and her family live in San Francisco in 1906. Clara's house gets a hard jolt when the great earthquake hits, but when the violent shaking subsides it's still standing. Aftershocks continue in the days that follow and huge fires ravage much of the city. Clara and her family, along with the boarders that inhabit their house, are forced to live in the yard for fear that the house may yet collapse. In the midst of all the chaos, a baby in a basket is left on their front porch. Even more strangely, what appears to be a boy baby turns out to be a girl in disguise. Further, Clara realizes that strangers are watching her house. Before this story is over, both the baby and Clara face great danger. Clara, finding herself in one tight spot after another, responds with courage and resolve.

THE STRANGE CASE OF BABY H is a suspenseful and action-packed tale set in the midst of one of the greatest natural disasters of the twentieth century. The author does a nice job of weaving accurate historical details into the story without sacrificing the immediacy of the plot. Being residents of the San Francisco area, this story had a little extra interest for us. On the other hand, the plot is often rather predictable. As the "History Mystery" series goes, this one is about average. That's still pretty good, though. We've found "History Mysteries" to be of good quality in general, and my daughter and I always enjoy reading them together.
