Buggy
There's not much substance to this story of Harry (actually, Hxzltl, in Centipede), a many-legged creature who lives down-under (ground, that is), beyond the world of the HOO-MINS. Unless, of course, you are an eight to 10-year-old reader, who likes animals of every kind, especially buggy ones, and adores characters who like you rebel against their parents' every instruction.

In that case, Harry is made to order, and you'll enjoy him so much you will read this book two or three times at least.

Perfect for second, third or fourth grade readers who prefer chapter books with illustrations, this 153-page story of an insect mischief-maker will delight kids who like to read down-under (blankets, after lights-out). Alyssa A. Lappen

A Centipede's Adventures
Meet Harry, he's young, charming, has many legs and he's poisonous. He lives with his mother, Belinda and best friend George, in tunnels under the ground. Like many young centipedes his age, he doesn't always listen to his mother and heed her warnings to stay away from the "no-top" world, where humans live and danger lurks around every corner. And because of this, we are treated to Harry and George's many adventures, as they leave their safe home underground, to go up above and experience the forbidden "no-top" world. Lynn Reid Banks has written a very creative and imaginative story, about the world, from a centipede's point of view. Her writing is witty and down to earth, full of funny dialogue and great, fast paced scenes. Your kids will be turning pages to the end, to find out what happens when Harry and George, finally come face to face with the dreaded human. The perfect book for youngsters aged 8-10, Harry the Poisonous Centipede is a winner.

Centi
This is a very good book. I recomend it to anyone that doesen't know how to speak centipedish. I think that all hoo-min kind should read it. (you'd know what I mean if you have read the book!)

ALICE
I thought Alice By Acciedent was a great book, you feel like you are side by side with her during her story. I sugggest this book to anybody who likes realistic fiction and enjoys hearing stories in first person and also likes stories that remind themselves of them.

Alice-By-Accident
Alice Elizabeth Williamson-Stone is the nine-and-a-half-year-old voice of her generation. Asked to write an autobiography in her School Notebook, she records much of the turmoil of her young life: being raised by her struggling single mom, never having met her father, and coping with the plit between her mom and Gene, her paternal grandmother . Gene doesn't approve of the fact that Alice's mom and dad never married and now are asked to move out of Gene's house because Alice's father and his new wife need it. alice's loyalties are torn between her mom and grandmom and she struggles to comprehend adult relationships and her place in the world. But the book rings true to the voices of 10 year olds everywhere. Alice is sensitive, quirky British girl and is a likeable believable herioine.

Though I liked the book, the writing style is a little overly complex for a children's book...it goes back and forth from Alice's journal entries to a replay of past events which can make it a bit confusing at times. American readers may at first be put off by the british dialogue and the style of writing (deliberately infused with grammatical and spelling errors, or, as Alice puts it, her "an ilustrated ortobiography"), but the book is both lively and insightful as is Alive herself. A great book for all, especially kids who live in single parent households.

extremely entertaining and very well done
The story is read by the author. She has a lovely voice and a beautiful English accent. (Like Julie Andrews) The story is delightful, original. The talent of the author is very obvious. It begins: "Harry was a poisonous centipede. You may think that's not a nice thing to be, but Harry thought it was fine. He'd anything else and he liked being what he was..." Unless you have a beautiful English accent, I recomend the audio tape. I think this story is perfect for ages 4 - 9.

Harry will tickle your fancy
My children listened to Harry the Poisonous Centipede on cassette tape and loved it. Lynn Reid Banks voice is captivating. This is such an entertaining story, but also gives interesting details about the life of a centipede. It is recommended for listeners ages 8 and up, but even my 3 year old wanted to hear it again and again.

Great For The Soul!!
Maura has a difficult life, growing up in war times and helping to take care of her severely retarded sister(who it turns out has a pure soul). She was also a twin, left twin-less after birth, like Elvis Presley was.Her twin was named Angela. One day Maura meets a girl who looks enough like her to be a twin, except that she is flawless without scars and stuff like that. Her name is Angela.Turns out she is an angel, and she has come to help Maura in all she does, and the longer she stays the more human she becomes. But the day comes that Angela must leave,in a human and a noble way.

Lynne Reid Banks is a unique author.A particularly good line was Angela's, "Our souls are the same" when speaking of males and females. We live in a twisted MArs and Venus, scientific mumbo-jumbo world,so thank you Lynne, for letting Angela say it so simply , Our souls are made the same.
We need more minds like Lynne Reid Banks.

An unpredictable story
Maura's Angel is a wonderful and unpredictable. The angel"Angela" is beautifully portrayed and the author did a fine job in Angela's role as a family member.I highly recomend this story to anyone.

Very good book.
My Darling Villian is about Kate, a middle class girl and her boyfriend Mark. It shows how class difference really does effect every day lives and their are class differeces everywhere. It's very well written and easy to read. It's my favorite book

Teenage life in 1970's , written with warmth and insight.
My Darling Villain is narrated by 16-year old Kate Dunhill, who lives with her middle-class parents in London. It is sensitive and detailed in its description of the highs and lows of growing up. The underlying theme of this book ( and many others by Lynne Reid Banks ) is that of conflict and reconciliation. In Kate's life these are between parents and children, brothers and sisters, the upper, middle and lower classes, Jews and Non-Jews, Kate and her friends, teachers and relations, and the strong conflict between men and women. For me a defining moment in the book takes place on a family outing to the British Museum where Mr Dunhill finds Kate and her mother discussing Kate's new boyfriend. He rolls his eyes dramatically (well, he is an actor ) and calls upon Heaven to witness that women have no earthly right to claim equality with men when they cannot keep their minds off sex even when surrounded by the greatest works of civilisation. ( And you'll have to read the book to find out Mrs Dunhill's clever retort ! ) As we experience the full richness of emotion with Kate, the reader sees that this is an accurate and lovely portrait of teenage life, especially for anyone nostalgic for the 1970's. I strongly recommend this book and any other by Lynne Reid Banks , particularly The L-Shaped Room

Dark quartet : the story of the Brontes

Captivating reading
Even if you had little interest in the Brontes, Lynn Reid Bank's story of their lives and relationships is compelling reading of a family and their sorrows and joys, successes and failures. By creating dialogue from letters they had written, the book makes them come to life. She gets into the heart of soul characters and protrays their differing personalities, ambitions and struggles. I heartily recommend this book, especially to fans of any of the Brontes.

Be prepared
If there was one word to describe this book and the story it contains, it would be: dark. If you think this book has to have a happy ending, you would be wrong. I was extremely surprised about how depressing the ending was. The ironic twist at end is very poignant and - I hate to use this word, but here it is - sad. Everything you thought you knew about the character is changed with his one merciless act (you'll know who I'm talking about when you read it). Be prepared! Virtually no one has a happy ending - but somehow that's oddly appropriate. Banks tells us that life does not always end well, some people can never change, and people DO regret their actions sometimes, but only when it's too late and they've lost their chance to correct past mistakes. That's the depressing part, and it's "Small Eyes'" fate to pay for her master's acts.

PS - being Chinese myself, I was emotionally attached to Small Eye's adventure throughout the entire story. She'll make you cry, seriously (or at least tear up a little).

Review by a Sixth Grade Student
I think that The Return of the Indian was a pretty good book. I especially like the parts when Omri put his figures in the cupboard and they became real. This book will appeal to all those people who are a Book Worm or who are best friends! I also learned a lot of new words by reading this book. Joshua

They came back again!!!
The Return of the Indian is the second book to the sequel of The Indian in the Cupboard & at the end of the book in The Indian in the Cupboard the toys were not real anymore & Boone the cowboy & Little Bear went back home & in the second book, Omri couldn't believe he would bring them back again.

This book is alright & I enjoy it alot!

A year after Omri first meets his Indian friend, he decides to visit him again, only to find that Little Bear is close to death and in need of help.

I like the chapter called "Chapter 10. Boone's Brainwave" because it just makes me happy because of Boone the cowboy.

This is one heck of a sequel & that book The Return of the Indian reminds me of anything like Oliver Twist & Black Beauty or Son of Black Beauty.

This is just a good book & I loved it?

I don't think it was as good as Indian in the Cupboard
I liked it when Omri went to Little Bear's world. Omri was the tepee and got set on fire. He went back to his world and his hair was burned off.

Great Book For Young Girls
Oh my gosh, how I loved this book. In third grade, I read it until the cover fell off! This unconventional fairy tale far surpassed other romantic tales in my mind. Banks shows images that are beautiful and incredibly imaginative. I would guide a girl aged around 8 to 14 to this book, depending on her reading ability, though the book is not terribly difficult. I consider this a classic and a must read for young girls. It's one of the first fairy tales where the heroine doesn't need (or particularly like) a prince coming to her rescue.

My start in Fantasy reading...
For any young person, this book is a "must read". When I was in the fifth grade, I loved to read, but couldn't quite figure out what kind of books I has a passion for, until I found this book. I came upon this book in my elementary school library and read it, and I have never forgotten it since. I am now 20 years old. It opened up the world of fantasy to me for the first time. I loved it!! Since then I have become a well-read and big time science fiction/fantasy fan.

the best book ever!
i thought that this book was absolutely fantastic! full of enchantment and fantasy! i read it first when i was about 9 and since then i have read it about 20 times! i LOVE it! when i start it i just can't put it down. it was this book that got me too love reading so much.i have read hundreds of books now and still, the farthest away mountain is my faveorite. you can't put an age limit on it. all ages would enjoy it! i highly recommend this book to anyone, of any age. it's the best!
