Volume one contains 969 pages of bibliographic references to hundreds of books that have been published about movies over the last 70 years. The author attempted to list every book published about films except for film novelizations. He included both in print and out of print titles, from paperbacks to university dissertations.
What makes it more valuable than a standard bibliographic listing is the author's attempt to include a few paragraphs about each book, so the film lover or researcher gets an idea of what the book is about. This is a critical bibliography, so he also includes commentary about the strengths and weaknesses of a particular title.
Volume 2 is a 532 page index to the titles listed in Volume 1, which makes it possible to quickly reference a particular author, film, actor or director.
This truly is a comprehensive look at film.
