Great Introduction!
A self-help manual for relieving the stress and pressures of everyday life, this book is suitable for beginner and practitioner alike. The authors have combined their experiences with both acupressure and yoga to create a set of four exercises that can increase health and vitality and relieve stress when practiced daily. A large portion of the book further addresses 24 common disorders (such as menstrual discomfort, headaches, and indigestion) and the specific positions that can help relieve them. Numerous black-and-white photographs illustrate the positions.

Yoga for Beginners and Experienced Practitioners
This is the one book that I recommend for anyone interested in yoga and overall health. By combining postures with meridians, (flows of energy thruout the body)and specific organs of the body, the information gives the yoga practitioner a more complete sense of the benefits of that posture. This also allows for a better focus, more mindfulness of the posture and intent. The photos and essays are clear and easy to view. Enjoy!

Acu-Yoga
I'd agree that Gach writes a very straight forward and simple book. If you are a beginner to the acupressure/kinesiology world, you will easily understand the basics [with the aid of this book]. The book gives many useful points, but for general problems most of the time. His knowledge in some promblematic areas goes into more depth than others. So, if you are looking for help with a specific problem, little information might be given or non at all. For example, the book gives great explanations and cures for colds, indegestion, depression and headache, however, it explains very little about allergies and sinuses. Gach backs his explanations with a strong facts and basic common sense.

I think that the book could give a better explanation on how to stimulate points. The diagrams of the locations of points are very useful and understandable. Overall, the book is well organized and convienent. If done correctly, the Yoga exercises are very powerful. With just a couple of exercises you can be healed instantly. This book left me curious buy more books on acupressure and is great reference to find quick cures.

An Excellent Book!
Using line drawings, photos, and step-by-step instructions, the author explains how to release the energies of chi to enhance sexual enjoyment, showing where and how to touch the body as well as which positions, pressure points, and massages can create a more satisfying experience. The stretches, tips, and exercises that are included not only eliminate stress and tension in the body, but can heighten pleasure and increase focus on nurturing and strengthening the love relationship.

A Perfect Touch
Very well done. With sensitive material that could easily be presented either too pornographically or too clinically, Michael Reed Gach, a Californian acupressure practitioner and teacher, strikes the perfect balance. Contents include: acupressure guidelines, stimulating sexual energy, building intimacy, preparing for love, arousing a woman or a man, and acupressure techniques for mutual stimulation, oral sex, and intercourse. Also includes chapters on Thai Massage, "Acupressure for the Afterglow" and acupressure for sexual problems and healing. The author is generous with information and presents it with clarity. The book includes diagrams and photos, also presented sensitively and clearly. The subject is treated with the tenderness it deserves and yet is very specific in its suggested applications of this age-old technique. Highly recommended.

A TRUE SYNTHESIS
It is not unusual for teachers of various bodywork methods to incorporate something from other traditions. For instance, when I was taught the Eight Brocade Way (Ba Qua Jin), I was taught 9 postures. One of which was from Yoga. Later my teacher introduced some Western exercises to aid in working around physical problems.

Michael Reed Gach has achieved a synthesis from two paths, Acupressure(Chinese health system based on the flow of energy (Chi) through channels and meridians) and Yoga postures including the connected idea of breath energy (Prana). He achieved this synthesis while taking classes in both areas at the same time and finding that no one else had drawn the same parllels between the two systems or had interest in doing so.

He has specifically made these tapes to provide, through tone and pacing, instruction difficult to achieve only from reading. Each exercise topic is accessble separately e.g. breath, spinal stretching, chakras, channels, meridians. There is also a section, oraganized alphabetically, applying acu-yoga exercises to specific problems.

The exercises are presented as a combination of postures and pressue points within the framework of the meridian system. The addition of the 5 types of yoga breathing and sometimes tone(chant) enhances the power of the exercises.

The sucess of these methods can be attested to from the 20 yrs in-print of Micael Gach's book on acu-yoga. I personally can attest to the presentation on the tapes. The set I used had been missing the instruction book and I still able to follow the clear verbal program easily, only later refering to standard acupressure and yoga texts. I strongly recommend these tapes not only for their intrinsic value, but also for their providing a frame in which to incorporate other ideas.

Emery & Rimoin's Principles & Practice of Medical Genetics
I found this book to be an invaluable assest and reference text. As a resident needing a thorough reference at home for this text will be a welcome addition to my library (and the first place I head to late at night). It systematically breaks down each chapter into clear, clinically important areas so you can easily find what you need.

This book is an excellent introduction to real analysis. It is written in a fairly informal style which allows the topics to sink in. If I were a student new to analysis, I would recommend buying this book along with one of the more formal texts (ex. Rudin).

No 4th Grade Class should be without
This is a beautifully written book that captures the plight of pioneers traveling west. My fourth grade students really gain a sense of what life was like once upon a time. Great book!!...

Lingering
I read this book in 1964 as a 4th grader in Northern California learning state history. I have never forgotten Patty or her doll (which used to be on display at Sutter's Fort). When my children were small it was not in print and I am so happy to see it is again. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know about American history from a totally different perspective. That of a little wooden doll, chosen amongst many beautiful sisters, to make a rough trip in the pocket of her owner. You will never forget Patty Reed, or her doll, I know I haven't. I am buying the book to keep to read and to my grandchildren.

Patty Reed's Doll
Patty Reed's Doll is an excellent account of the Donner Party and all the other families that were part of the Donner Tragedy. The book describes the families in such detail you feel like you're traveling with them. The Reeds are one of the families that are traveling with the Donner Party. The story is an excellent way to teach elementary school children as well as adults what trailblazing was really like and the severe hardships that went with it. As an elementary school teacher I highly recommend this book. It is an asset to studying California history.

Still a relevant warning...
Although I have generally found Orwell to be a politically confused thinker, 1984 stands out as one of the best and most forward thinking works I have ever read. The amount of relevance this book has today is overwhelming, considering modern government propaganda techniques and the double edged sword of technology. This story serves as a warning to all who trust the government, especially in regards to privacy issues.

Winston Smith, while not the ideal romantic protagonist, is still compelling in his own right with his inspiring (and finally tragic) fight against Big Brother. The struggle that takes place between Winston and the government in 1984 is psychologically thrilling and intense, and it is still difficult for me to put the book down each time I read it. I am particularly drawn to the character of O'Brien, who represents to me the culmination of a path that all seasoned politicians and government officials travel down.

The year 1984 has come and past, but an extreme statist government similar to the one portrayed in the novel still may haunt us in the future.

1984
Few books I have read have captivated me as much as 1984 did. In the two days I read it I actually stayed up near midnight and it took me all the willpower I had to put it down and finally go to sleep. I would highly recommend this book to any reader and personally consider it one of the greatest political statements agains communism ever written.

George Orwell's grim tale begins after a future government's attempt to create a utopia goes awry. We start the story as it pertains to Winston Smith, a man who works in The Ministry of Truth, which, despite it's misleading names, works on the 'correction' of 'false' records. Despite his desires to fit in, Winston is at risk merely because he can remember what life was like before 'Big Brother'. He knows that much of the party's propogands is fluid fiction; he realizes that the party controls individuals by brainwashing them with lies and alienating them from each other.

Winston soon begins having a love affair with a woman named Julia. In their hatred of Big Brother, they both decide to join an underground resistance call the Brotherhood. However, the organization is not quite as Winston had conceived, and he and Julia realize just how hard it is to resist Big Brother and the Thought Police.

Striking thirteen ...
One of the great books of the 20th century - it is amazing how much of Orwell has entered the language : Big Brother, Thought Police etc. The story is a bleak one - "Imagine a boot stamping on a human face, forever!". Orwell intended it as a warning, not as a prophecy. As a warning, it worked - 1984 was read by every Russian dissident, about the only English book (besides Animal Farm) that can make that claim. Yet, the abuse of language described by Orwell, the way thought can be controlled by inculcating poverty of language, in a certain sense describes much of today's media - "dumbing down" actually limits the possible human response - look at the jeers and cheers on 'the Jerry Springer' as pathetic subjects explode their inarticulate rage. The nearest thing to the '5 Minute Hate' that I have ever seen. Yet, Orwell possibly made the warning too bleak (he was dying of TB as he wrote, it was his last book). You feel that while Julia and Winston Smith do ultimately betray each other, yet it was done under duress of torture, and there could possibly be forgiveness in their hearts afterwards, not the disillusion of the book. The power of human love could defeat the Party, perhaps. A book that repays several readings.
