An invaluable asset to both genealogists, and historians, interested in the Loyalists of the American Revolution. I have made extensive use of Coldham's work, found it accurate and, seemingly, error free. Indexing of both persons and subjects is astonishingly complete, and one only wishes that a second volume may be forthcoming.

The book is very interesting for a genealogist. I found only two names that relate to my family tree. I purchased this book because the title indicates that it covered the most years. The title is actually 'Death Records from Missouri Newspapers January 1854-December 1860'not 1960.It only covers seven years. I would have bought a different book of death records if I had known.

I have had the pleasure of reading this book, and, afterwards, having the author sign my book. It is a very nice book. The historical events have been excellently presented along with several original artworks done by the aurhor. It is highly readable, and could be done within an hour.

This book sure is very easy to understand and very direct to the point. Although, a little more details particularly in the procedures for transactions would be helpful

Edmund Wilson is, of course, one of the most critically acclaimed American authors. His book, "Upstate", is, to my knowledge, his only autobiographical work. This book was recommended to me by a brilliant, eccentric co-worker who knows I love great books and remembers that I was reared in the Empire State.

One of the initial chapters of "Upstate" contains the most eye-opening descriptive history of "American" religions I have encountered. I ensure that any reader will gather wonderful fodder for future cocktail parties simply by reading Wilson's chapter on Upstate religions.

The balance of this book will appeal mainly to true Wilson scholars and bibliophiles who appreciate great writing. While Wilson's hand is superb, the content consists mainly of a detailed recitation of the history of Wilson's, rather average, familial line.

Nevertheless, the mere fact that this is the only book review I have written since attending Colgate University twenty-years ago will demonstrate that I loved the book and would highly recommend it to any true reader.

I thought the book gave a brief but to the point over view of how the funk mob got started. It was ok but it left out the names of some of the players of the funk ie.. Sheila Horn,Jessica Cleaves Steve Washington,Mickey Atkins to name a few. The funk is long deep and wide.

Being that I am a hardcore Parliament-Funkadelic fan, I found this book to be a bit of a dissapointment. It was hard to keep up with what year the editor was going into. The book reads very fast and seems crammed. Each chapter covered at least 5 years at a time. However, being that there has never been a book written about George Clinton and P-Funk, this book is definitely entertaining, informing and revealing. It was good to read what other members takes are on P-Funk. Interesting insights were the introduction of George to Bootsy, quarrels within the band, the competition between the Brides of Funkenstein and Parlet, and how the band broke up. I personally would have liked to know more about the relationships between the musicians, especially clinton/collins/worrell, and Lynn Mabry, an original bride, seems to be absent from the book. I also would have liked to know how George and the other members of the band to talk about how they wrote and formed some of their biggest hits. I especially would have liked them to comment on the concepts of hits like "P-Funk (Wants to get funked up)" "Dr. Funkenstein" and "Sir Nose D'Voiddoffunk". All-n-all, this book should be read by all HARDCORE P-Funk fans until something better comes along.

loved this book loys of info aboput the band, but my fault was i wanted more details about about the group, and what made them inspire to write the p-funk hits, how george really felt about his material being sampled. what are plans for the mob. george was interesting, bootsy was,nt given enough space. but not a bad place for those who want to learn about p-funk. but will leave funkateers craving more knowledge.this book really needs to be updated. it seems some stuff was left out.

This is not a 'reading' book; it's purely a reference book. The book is alphabetical listings of death records and obituaries from various Missouri newspapers. The print is _tiny_ so the book is thin, but there is a huge amount of information in it. Browsing through is interesting as causes of death, and methods the person used for suicide, are included. I downchecked the book a bit for the lack of introductory material explaining exactly how the book's format relates to the original newspaper listings--how much is exact quotation? how much is the author/compiler's inserted comments? how much info was excluded from each listing?--and for the extremely tiny print size. The listings seem trimmed down to the basics.

For broad historical research purposes, the price of the book may be worthwhile. For someone doing genealogical reseach looking for a single person, the price may be a bit high as you may be able to get the individual listing from other sources.
