Fighting Joe Hooker
Concentrates well on Hooker's role within the Federal Army. There are detailed accounts of his relationships with superiors and subordinates alike. Well researched and descriptive accounts of his role and the role of his units in key battles. The author fails to use direct quotations enough and tells the reader what was said rather than allowing the speaker's own words to be used. Very helpful in researching the early movements and battles of the III Corps, 2nd Div.

Great book
This book did a excelent job explaning how fighting joe rose to the head of the army. This book take you through joes childhood and laterlife.

Wonderful "Window" into the life of Abraham Lincoln
Even a casual student of American history can recite many of the salient points of the career of Abraham Lincoln as president. This book takes the reader far beneath the superficial surface information. While McClure was an eyewitness to many of the events described, he maintains an objective viewpoint. I enthusiastically recommend this book to any reader who desires a "fly on the wall' perspective of Lincolns presidency.

The Life of Abraham Lincoln was interesting and informative
In Isaac Arnold's book, The Life Of Abraham Lincoln, Mr. Arnold portyays Lincoln how he knew him. Isaac was aquainted with Abe Lincoln for over a quarter century, and that helped him in completing this wonderful biography. It does, however, lack several important facts that have now been discovered. Since Mr. Arnold wrote his book twenty years after Lincoln's death, the United States didnt have time to realize what an amazing and influential person Lincoln was. New data also shows that some of his facts in the book are proven to be wrong. Even with those minor details that are false, it doesnt take away from the intensity of the book. Being able to read his speeches and visualize Lincoln speaking is amazing and Mr. Arnold does a very good job of painting that picture.

The facts of the Civil War
James Rawley does a magnificent job breaking down the civil war into 7 major turning points. We all understand the impact that any civil war has on a country and how it becomes a turning point in that countries history forever. What rawley does is tries to answer the question of why the american civil war ended the way it did and how easily it could have favoered the other side. He takes an in depth look at the Trent Affair, Bull Run, Gettysburg and Vicksburg, Lincoln's last election during wartime, the Boderland states, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the battle of Antietam. All of these he lists as major turning points and gives concrete, specific details to back up his thoughts. He gives quotes from the time and from speeches given throughout the country and also dips into news articles no only from the U.S.A., but also from Europe. It is very simple reading and also enjoyable i would recommend it to anyone.
