Short and Sweet on Strategy
If your golf mechanics are ready to use on the golf course, then it's time to think about how to lower your score. Tom Watson is one of the best strategists in the game of professional golf. Read this book to discover how he picks clubs and where to hit them in various circumstances, how he hits repeatably shaped shots (straight, high and low fades, high and low draws, skyballs and worm-burning knockdowns), and how to get the advantage in matchplay. The goal is to lower the golf score, not to hit the world's most pure drive. And this is a good thing.

Highly recommended.

Hands On Golf Book to Play Better
Step by step, this book is like a playing lesson. From the green backwards, Watson helps us realize what course maintenance is all about. This book will really help us begin to think a round out, rather than just look at the yardage, the obstacles and let it rip. Smart golf book. Higly recommended.

excellent golf strategy bible
even a beginning golfer can reap benefits from this important publication. mr. watson is in touch with how to transfer knowledge to another golfer. this volume is so important to have if you are at all serious about the game. this book serves a wide variety of players from hackers wondering where they might get back strokes to single digit players seeking a new perspective. this is one must book for a golfers library.

The Short Way to Lower Scoring

Best short game book ever written.
Yes, Pelz is great, but Runyan's book is unmatched. He has an engineering approach that will appeal to analytical types. This guy averaged less than 2 when chipping so he holed it more often than he two putted. An he can explain the principles of what he is doing so you can take his approach without taking his grip for example.

Best Short-Game Instructional Book Ever!
A MUST for any serious teacher, student, or even casual sufferer of short-game hiccups. It is the best attempt at simplifiying an extrememly misunderstood but crucial portion of the game of golf. Since it is out of print, I guess I should make sure I get one before I write such a wonderful review and everyone wants one

One of the Best Books on Golf
I have played at golf since high school but never took the time to learn to play well. After years of duffing around the course I decided to learn to properly play the game. I began taking lessons from a highly recommended Houston PGA professional instructor and I began reading golf instruction books. I've been working on my golf, now, for 1 1/2 years. Progress is slow but substantial.

This book, BOBBY JONES ON GOLF, is one of the best instructional books available.

Over the last 1 1/2 years I've read twenty or more golf instructional books. I have found that many of the newer books, written by famous current PGA players, really aren't that good.

This book is overwhelming in the amount of information it contains. Bobby Jones, clearly, simply, explains the body movements required to produce a correct, repeatable golf swing. He does this in such a way that the reader gains insight and understanding into the golf swing no other instructional book offers.

The book also clearly discusses swing tempo and rhythm, essential to a good golf swing.

The section of putting is rather brief but gives insight and clarity to the "art" of putting.

Although this is not the only instructional book I would recommend, I consider it the best single instruction book on golf. The amount of information, the clarity of instruction and the depth of insight contained in this book are unsurpassed by any other golf instruction book available. Additionally, Bobby Jones' writing style possesses an exceptional level of refinement, intelligence and clarity.

The Holy Grail of Golf Books
One of my biggest regrets in life is that I never got to see Bobby Jones play tournament golf. He retired from the game early, too early for a man of his immense talent; and a few years before I traveled across the country to see tournament play.

I can only go by his unmatched amateur record and old grainy 16-millimeter film stock to grasp the greatness of Bobby Jones. Jones had a great swing...Very controlled, impeccable balance/ coordination, unbelievable tempo and rhythm. Pure ballstriking. Pure golf.

In his book, "Bobby Jones on Golf", Jones really gets to the spirit of the game. This is a great book on the idiosyncrasies, nuances, technicalities, and philosophies of the game of golf. If you read carefully and take his advice seriously, I believe you will become a better player. I can't guarantee this, but there is no reason why a beginner can't shoot in the 80's within the first year of playing. If you do the reading and practice the fundamentals; after 3 years of playing on a regular basis (at least 3 to 4 times a week) you should be shooting in the 70's.

This book is a very easy and compelling read. I think you will really enjoy Jone's prose. It's Jone's prose that makes this an enjoyable reading experience. It's by no means flowery or pretentious, but understated and distinguished. Much like reading a Jane Austen novel; it feels like Jones is actually speaking directly to you. And this is the best way to learn about something very complicated; to have the narrator / author personalize his language by using parables, analogies, and personal stories to make it easier for the reader to understand the complicated material.

Another important note: There are hardly any illustrations and no photographs in this book. There doesn't need to be either because Jones does such a great job in his explantions that his words paint pictures. I was glad that he didn't have to resort to any photos; it would have distracted from his impeccable teachings.

I highly recommend this book whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player. Not only will you learn from a golfing master, but you will have a new appreciation for the greatest game on earth. Along with this book, I also recommend the reading of Ben Hogan's, "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf", Mickey Wright's "Swing the Wright Way", and Harvey Penick's, "The Little Red Book".

Bobby Jones on Golf
"A golf swing is graceful, not because it is made so, but because it is correct." Only Bobby Jones offers nearly poetic writing while tackling the ever so complex act of striking a golf ball, and playing the game.

Mr. Jones' book is without a doubt the best about playing the game of golf. Ben Hogan's Modern Fundamentals is a close second. The difference? Mr. Jones discusses the game. Mr. Hogan discusses the swing.

Beginners and high-handicappers should chuck all their golf magazines and golf-tip books. These only bring about tension and poor results. Bobby Jones on Golf will raise any interested reader's game to a level that goes beyond how many knuckels should be visible or the position of the pinky toe; all this while using the english language as well as he used his mashie.

A must read if you want to be a competitive golfer.

A pretty good book.
Most of the information in this book is useful. It gives simple and common sense ways to go about improving your short game. Tom Watson is one of the greatest short game players of all time, and his advice is obviously comming from much experience. My only real problem with this book is the abundance of photographs that didn't really need to be there. There are many photographs that show positioning during set-up, placement for your hands for the grip, etc. which are very useful and well drawn. But there are also many drawings (practically every other page) that have no educational value. I don't mean to sound insulting, because the book does teach many useful techniques, but lets just say this book could have been written in 1/3 of the pages. This book is saved by Mr. Watson's discussion of practice drills which are fantastic and definately worth while! So if you are looking for a few tips to help you on the course, pick this book up. But if you are a true student of the short game, I recommend Dave Pelz's Short Game Bible. If you are like me, you'll buy both and compare for yourself. But if you can only grab one, I'd have to go with the Short Game Bible. It's just too useful to pass up.

Fastest Way to Dramatically Cut Your Score
This book is a must read by golfers at any level. Tom Watson teaches you how to visualize success in all aspects of the short game, how to know how to play each shot with the proper club to maximize your outcome, how to reduce risk, how to SCORE! The book is full of drills that really will help you. Over the past decade I've given this book to literally dozens of friends, any one of whom would agree with my high opinion of it. Buy it, read it, practice it, and watch your scores get much, much lower!

Excellent book to help with someone's short game.
Tom Watson really puts his heart and soul into this book. He gives the reader many examples and drills to improve your game. I used to have a high handicap, but not anymore. I really dropped about 5-10 strokes off my handicap. Not bad.

A WAY TO GET WARMED UP FOR THE THINKING WORLD
I give this book five stars. Though the problems and puzzles were created several years ago, it introduces or, at least, reintroduces the reader to humorous and thought-provoking examples highlighting how intuitive and counterintuitive processes can collide into one another.

Martin Gardner's witty writing style makes this book a pleasant pathway to the realms of logic. Neat and concise with its stories and challenges throughout and with solutions at the very end, the book is a very ideal read, especially if you are a passenger with a very long trip ahead and who needs good quality entertainment that is also educational.

Lost Your Swing & No Pro To Help Find It?
This book will help you find it, uncomplicate it and play better the next round.

He goes step by step through the grip, setup and swing, with great photos from all angles.

Useful drills as well, especially the one about finding your tempo by gripping the clubhead and taking some swings this way.

I needed a golf book to simplify the swing...
Tom Watson's book is an excellent place to seek help for the golfer who is not striking the ball well. There are a million things you could think about in a swing and I have tried hundreds of them. I decided that I would read the book of the man whose swing has stood the test of time and use his stuff. Last time I looked, Watson was leading the senior tour in GIR's at more than 72%.

In my case, one simple concept---forearm rotation---revolutionized my ball-striking! Watson also covered the basics that are in other golf instruction books, and used a well known pro to illustrate the concepts. But it seemed that the things I had not read about before (his "shaking hands" and "swing the clubhead in a circle" concepts) were ideas that radically improved the quality of my golf shots.

I also might add that I took pictures/movies of my swing with a digital camera and compared them to Watson's swing action photos in the book. Then, I taped a tournament he was near the lead in, and just played his swing over and over and absorbed the rhythm of the motion. I enjoy the game like never before ...
