Classics has always been one of my weak areas, but this book did a lot to give me a solid understanding of Greek civilization throughout its development and who the ancient Greeks were. It was presented in a way that sparked my interest, and I now want to study Greek literature and Sparta in more detail.

This book does well in presenting many aspects of Greek Civilization, including information about both historical events and the lifestyle of the Greeks. However, it would be better used as a supplement to a course on the ancient world or as a quick background reference when reading any of the Greek and some of the Roman writers. A good introdution to the fascinating Hellene civilization, but only an introduction! Happy reading, and kale tukei!
