My favorite
This book is my all-time favorite. I read it when I was nine years old and have loved it ever since then. (I'm almost 18 if you're wondering..)

It's one of the most original books I've ever read and is just fantastic. It really gets better with the age of the reader. I can now understand some of the gentle sarcasm that I didn't get in the fourth grade, etc etc. It's hard to find, but if you get the chance, I highly recommend giving it a chance.

an absolutely captivating book
I've read and re-read this book, over and over, for years! It is worth searching for although it is out of print. It is still among my favorite books of all time!

One of the Best books I've ever read!
This book is great!! The story is told in an original story tellers way. I love it! If any one knows eher I can get Susan Prices email (or address) I have written a musical on this book

Complete Idiot's Guide to Child Safety
Parents receive so much information about possible dangers to their children and what they can do to protect them that they find it difficult to know where to draw the line. What safety measures should they insist their child and other caregivers observe? Which ones are less important? This book helps them focus on what is most important. As manager of Texas Children's Center for Childhood Injury Prevention and the local Safe Kids coordinator, I hear many stories from parents about what problems might have been prevented if they had only known . . . Since we can expect each year for one child in four to be injured badly enough to need medical care, this is a most needed reference for parents.

Keep Your Kids Safe!
Keeping kids safe sounds scary, but this book offers some simple solutions. The authors not only educate readers about safety at home and school, in the car and on the bike, they also tackle safety and sports, pools, and even farms.

Did you know that falls from shopping carts are a major reason why kids visit emergency rooms? The authors explain how to keep your kid secure in the cart. Do you when your child is old enough to cross the street alone? The answer surprised me. Do you when your child is mature enough to be home alone? They offer a quiz to help you decide when your child -- and you -- are ready for that big step.

I recommend this book for anyone who watches kids between infancy and age 14. After all, keeping our kids safe and secure is just as important as letting them know they are loved.

A fun book for your toddler
These little people books that come with a figurine are wonderful. My girls love them. As I read to them they use the little figurine to act out what is happening in the story. On each page there is a box telling you what the figurine should be doing now as the story unfolds. Or you can do your own actions. A fun book to read and a must-have for Little People fans!

Great for toddlers!
This book is my toddler's favorite! He loves the fact that he can take out the lamb and put it back in. Because it's a board book, it's really holding up well to the abuse he puts it through. It is the one book that he picks up and pages through on his own

A splendid gift for gardeners
With a text that glows as brightly as the book's sumptuous photography, Growing Home is a triumphant celebration of "diversity." But Ms. Price's work is far from mere political correctness; every page is warmed by her deeply felt sense of community with her subjects. From the Russian-born botanist who declares that gardening "is my soul" to the Hmong mother preserving her Laotian heritage and feeding her extended family, these men and women represent "a vast, invisible network of people living full, well-integrated lives." Their serenity and common sense testify that "even in the midst of a culture nourished on fast foods and hurried entertainments, it is still possible to live in concord with the rhythms of the earth." Beautifully designed and produced, the book is a perfect gift for any garden enthusiast...I love it.

Every garden tells a story.
Growing Home is a real treasure of a book. Price has profiled a very diverse group of "transplanted" gardeners--mostly immigrants--who use gardening as a way of maintaining connections between their ethnic and cultural roots and their present-day lives in Minnesota. The profiles effectively turn the subjects' gardens into windows on their life stories, revealing the broader cultural meaning behind the simple act of tending a plot of land. Price skillfully balances the botanical, historical, and culinary backgrounds of the gardeners she profiles, and John Gregor's photographs are beautiful on their own. I think this book's stunning layouts and engaging stories make its appeal extend far beyond the world of Minnesota gardeners.

Howard Hodgkin Paintings

Great Art!
Running across a Howard Hodgkin exhibition forever revolutionized my formerly negative view of modern art. It has opened my soul to new areas of art enjoyment not experienced previously. This book has many plates of his work and provides very interesting reading. Let his beautiful art and colors wash over you... Enjoy!

"The" publication on Hodgkin to own.
This well illustrated and multifaceted book is an important addition to any library. If only for Marla Price's catalogue raisonne a very valuble addition not in other publications about this important artist. I found the exchange of letters from Hodgkin to John Elderfield insightfull and full of the sort of detail on techniques hard to find elsewhere.

Michael Auping has written a compassionate opening essay on this sensitive man and the development of his work.

Susan Sontag writes about Hodgkin and art after modernism, with a wry and wonderfull humour.

All of these writings are punctuated with marvellous colour plates.

This book is a must.

Our 2 Year Old's Favorite Book!
I knew our 2 year old daughter liked trains when I bought this book, but I had no idea it would be such a hit! She carries it with her everywhere and we ready it over and over. The lovely, bright illustrations have lots of detail, so there are many things we can talk about. (If mommy and daddy get tired ready the story over and over!)

We had to order a new copy, since the first one was literally loved to pieces!

My son loves this book!
I started reading this book to my son when he was only a few months old. Now, at a year, it is still one of his favorites. The bright illustrations and rhyming narrative hold his attention. Plus the squeaky cover with the 3D people and animals makes this book a good toy/story to take on trips.

Gripping
This and Susan Price's two other novels, Ghost Drum and Ghost Song, are compelling for both adults and kids. They are bleak, there is cruelty and the outcomes are not straightforward, but I have used these books in classrooms with children aged between 10 and 12 and the class was totally engaged throughout, despite language difficulties. Susan Price is a thoughtprovoking writer with a style which works like a Shaman's spell on the reader. I cannot recommend them too highly as introductions to the darker aspects of human nature. Terrific.

Lovely Book--Great Photos and Good Text
This book really filled a void -- I liked the organization, the photo quality and the layout. I would have liked to have seen more examples from the 1930's and 1940's, but that's nitpicking (and personal!). I love that the book feels well made too-sturdy and like it will last.

A must for costumers
If you're interested in reproducing authentic costumes, you won't find a better guide to hats and bonnets than this book. I haven't found anything close to it. Intended for collectors, it is full of photographs showing what women wore on their heads for the 200 year period covered. Today a hat is usually something worn strictly to protect from inclement weather. Until a generation or so ago, no woman felt dressed in public unless she wore some kind of hat. It's a valuable addition to any costume library.

A fashion and history buff's delight!
Susan Langley's book is great for people who enjoy reading about and admiring hats. It is informative, organized and beautiful. Except for the first two sections which comprise 3 decades each, 1770-1800 and 1800-1830, the book is organized by decade. Each section has a wonderful introduction which consists of a historical overview, fashion overview and overview of hats which is devoted solely to that time period. Then come the gorgeous fashion plates, vintage photos of hat-wearing ladies and actual hats on period milliner's heads such as the century old, rooted haired and glassed eyed Alice who is on the cover with the pink picture hat. Also included are advertisements and articles which, though in small print, can still be read. Ms Langley often compares the fashion plates with the photos of hats on the milliner's heads and old photos of women wearing the hats. This is a great book.
