Olaf and Venus are fun
Another excellent book in Pratt's four-book series. Olaf and Venus get in their car and head to the beach, checking out the sights along the way. A bird, a porcupine, a plane, the sea are all part of the trip. Pratt's charming and simple artwork bring each item to life--a word on one side of the page is shown again on the facing page with a full-color illustration of Olaf and Venus having fun. A wonderful book that kept my 9-month-old son amused on a plane trip recently. Highly recommended.
Excellent for a three month old
My three month old was captivated by the bright colors throughout the story. The single word pages allowed me to make up the story as I read. I could talk for an extended amount of time if she was interested in a particular page. She would coo and ahh at the red car. An excellent book for an infant.
A FAVORITE BoardBook
Wonderful illustrations and simple text make this an all-time favorite with babies and preschoolers!

a charming book
Olaf and Venus point out common items and things in the home and have lots of fun doing so; the colorful artwork is simple but with enough charming details to keep a little one amused. The basic concept of this book works well: a word on one side is illustrated and then shown again in a full-color scene with Olaf and Venus interacting with it. I like the art very much--Olaf and Venus are winning in their simplicity.
All four books in this series are wonderful mini-excursions to a commonly visited place and should keep a young one busy for a while. Highly recommended.
Venus Visits Olaf
Another in the Very Busy Life of Olaf and Venus series and no less adorable than the others. Venus visits Olaf at home and we get to read about what they do together - including taking a bath and eating cheese. The story is told in pictured words on one page and a scene containing the word on the opposite. Great book for toddlers to practice early reading skills of picture matching and picture-word matching. The vibrantly coloured drawings seem to give life and personality to Olaf and Venus and they are also interesting enough to hold the attention of our 1-year old daughter.

Lush illustration
Although words are scarce in this lushly illustrated book, the adventure story is fascinating. We travel up mountains, through jungles, across fields and every other landscape imaginable with Leon in search of his hat. This book makes a fabulous gift for children and fanciful adults. The vibrant colours and detailed compositions will have you returning to Pratt's world again and again. But will you ever get the hat?

Perfectly simple and fun story for a toddler!
This is my two year old son's favorite story time book! It's a very simple story about things kids love to do (like splashing in puddles!). BUT the drawings are full of lots of fun details that make us laugh. We have developed our own extended story from the great pictures and it keeps growing every time we read it. Very nicely written for a young audience. I would highly recommend for 18 months to about 3 years old. Enjoy!

fun to read and great pictures!
My fourteen-month-old has no patience for books with lots of words, so this book is perfect for her. Every two pages there is one word and a vividly colored illustration. The pictures really interest her. On one page Olaf and Venus play in a fountain (even shoppers need a break), and my daughter got very excited when we saw a large fountain at a shopping mall so I think she made the connection! Lots of fun to read over and over and over again.

Concerns and Joys of Owning Jack
Jack, a playful black and white dog that looks like a cross between a Jack Russell terrier and an anteater loves to hide his family's stuff in the closet, much to their dismay. Daily, Jack waits by the closet door to help them retrieve what might be misplaced. The family tries to correct Jack's errant ways by saying, "No, no, Jack!" But he continues hiding things until one day he hides a treasure that pleases all the family, especially Jack. This colorful book with bright acrylic artwork that moves the eye from left to right to the door will peak the curiosity of young readers from three to five years old as they try to guess what Jack might have placed in the closet. This chance to predict before lifting the flap to see will help the young reader pay attention to the text as well as the illustrations.
no,no, jack
My Three year old loves this book. She enjoys guessing and remembering what Jack has left in the closet. The illustrations and the story are light-hearted, but not sappy. The lift-the-flap feature drew us to it at the library; now we are going to buy it.
No, No, Jack Is Yes, Yes, for Kids!
No,No,Jack is definitely a 5 star hit with our five year old grandaughter, Shannon. We have lots of children's books that she likes but she always goes first to No, No, Jack and it's a must for bedtime reading. When she brings her little friends, it's the first thing she shows them at Grandma's house. I suspect the appeal lies in the fact that little kids like the idea of hiding things, including themselves. Also, after a couple of readings, they feel as though they can read it themselves. I hope we will see many more books from Mr. Hirsch.

Superbly Simple
Simple and vibrantly colourful drawings with simple words of an endearing duo consisting of an elephant named Olaf and a mouse called Venus. We get to read about the sights that these buddies see - among them a pond, a statue, and a boy named Sam - on their outing in the park one sunny day. With a word and picture on one page and a scene containing the pictured word on the opposite, the simplicity of this book makes it easy for a toddler to practice some of the basics of reading - picture matching and picture-word matching - with your help. My daughter loves to have me read the book to her over and over again.
