I READ THIS IN 2 SITTINGS; A POWERFUL, MEMORABLE ROMANCE!
Ann Brighton reluctantly goes to England with her millionaire father and serves as his hostess in exchange for the money to start her own horse farm back in post-Civil War Virginia. She can't forgive him for deserting her family to run blockades. She's adamant about returning to the States until she meets Rhys Kendall, a man on a mission of vengeance against her father. Their liking and respect for each other blaze into a passion neither can deny, which endangers both his plans and hers. But when a mysterious blackmailer threatens not only Ann's father's life, but Ann's as well, Rhys and Ann both have to decide what path they want to follow and what they're willing to do to follow it ... The heroine is beautiful from the inside out, generous to her friends and devoted to family, with a gutsy, bold, "American" brashness I admired and chuckled at from the start. The hero is one to live for ... intelligent and sensitive, sexy and bullheaded, in fact, all through the book I wished he was locking horns with me! I haven't read an historical romance in a long time but I couldn't resist this one, from page one on. I highly recommend it and can't WAIT to read the others in the three-part series! Bravo, Jo-Ann Power!

I couldn't put this book down!!
I took it with me everywhere. From the beauty salon to my son's track meet. I couldn't let it out of my sight until I finished it. Now I can hardly wait till the next book. It has all the elements of a fantastic book: romance, mystery, and rich historical detail. Ann is a true delight!!! I even bought extra copies to give to my friends!

It turned out to be a wonderful romance.
It started out a little slow for me because our first American Beauty Ann was getting on my nerves but as the story continued she began to grow on me and I came to enjoy her very much. She definitely had a mind of her own and I like that type of character.

Focusing will change your life!
I discovered Focusing 6 years ago...stumbled onto Ann's book in a bookstore and have followed my felt sense from there since. Ann's way of explaining and teaching Focusing is extremely clear and very gentle. Your relationship with yourself will not be the same again.

If only Oprah would have Ann on!
This is a wonderfully clear and simple and reassuring guide to learning to pay attention to subtle hints from your body about what is going on in your life. The underlying idea behind the procedure Ann teaches is that we are not contraptions in which a mind and spirit are just tucked into a body like a pillow into a pillow case. Rather we are a unitary bodymind and whatever subtle or not so subtle senses are going on in our bodies--at least those that are not too closely related to disease or to what we just ate--probably have something to tell us about what we haven't noticed yet about our lives. So we need to listen to our bodies, much as we would listen to another person we really wanted to understand.
I read the book some years ago and I still return to it regularly for inspiration to help myself get back into the groove that it facilitates.
Maybe as children we all started out doing this kind of attending to our "bodyminds", but now that we "know" a lot of stuff, we may tend to talk ourselves out of what our bodies know--and thereby hamper ourselves. Getting into Focusing can get us back to much of the wisdom of childhood, with adult wisdom added.
Ann learned this art from Eugene Gendlin, author of "Focusing," who taught at the University of Chicago, though she has her own slant on some aspects of it. If only Ann and Eugene had taken some courses in marketing, Focusing might be as big now as TM was once upon a time, and then maybe the world would be a lot better place. In any event, if you read this book, I bet you will think that its ridiculous sales rank of 15,911 shows that Oprah's help is needed to get a lot of people in on something that could help us all live better. Instead of having Oprah's Dr. Phil tell you what's what, Focusing empowers you to tune into your body's messages to find out what's what for yourself. This is the best kind of self-empowerment I can think of.

Great Tool
This is a nice supplement to the book "Focusing" where you learn a simple method for clearing and managing emotional states. Simple, easy to read and apply.

An under-rated and under-stated problem solving technique
I read Gendlin's book two decades ago, and discovered this one a few years ago. So I've got quite a bit of experience with Focusing under my belt. This is a very powerful meditational discipline, but simple to learn and implement.

It is particularly useful in sorting out dilemmas or problems where you feel ambivalent, are conflicted, or fear you have lost objectivity. Should you quit your job, leave your spouse, marry your girlfriend, change careers? Is your relationship with a spouse/friend/sibling/child frustrating you? Are you at your wits end with a boss or co-worker? Can't figure out how to express yourself to those you care about?

I've found Focusing powerful because it is such a *fast* way of developing new insight and articulating what you really think and feel. And it feels good and may help you stay more aware of what matters to you during your day.

I just recommended this book to someone who is almost a stranger but who is facing some big, confusing decisions. If that's where you are too right now, this book is worth taking a chance on.

This book wonderfully clarifies and enriches Gendlin's!
I first read Eugene Gendlin's original book on Focusing and found it tremendously helpful and life-changing. But finding this additional resource on Focusing was a wonderful gift because this book clarifies and gets to the heart of how you can really make Focusing work for you. The author states concepts simply but powerfully and addresses those very issues that were hard for me to understand in Gendlin's book. I felt like I just couldn't fail with Focusing after I read this book. She also has really, really helpful examples throughout the book. I have recommended this book to a lot of people, without reservation, and will continue to do so.

This is an inviting update on the uses of Focusing.
What I like most about The Power of Focusing, which I have reaad and re-read, is the author's observation that the essence of Focusing is your relationship with yourself. That is, living the Focusing attitudes by being gentle and compassionate with yourself. This is a perfect fit with my experience, both personal and professional (I am a psychologist). Living in the present moment with kindness and acceptance is perhaps the greatest benefit that I, and consequently those around me, have derived from Focusing.

It is most helpful to share Focusing by having a recent book which contains the fruits of over 15 years of the author's teaching. The first Focusing self-help book, the classic by Eugene Gendlin, anchors the practice - it has a history. Now when I pass Focusing on, I can add Ann Cornell's book as an example of the living tradition of Focusing, one of the ways it has developed since Gendlin's book was published in 1981. It is an excellent illustration that while there are Focusing basics, such as the attitude of respect, there is always something new to learn and more applications in using the process. For instance, I am a certified Focusing teacher, but one of my new learnings from this book was a clearer concept of what "guiding" is. Addtionally, Ann Cornell's examples are very good illustrations of the concepts she is teaching. One of my favorites is "Matt," because it shows how Focusing can combine in a useful way with other factors when one is making a major decision.

Finally, from a marketing standpoint the book is very attractive and has great endorsements on the cover. I hope there is a 100th printing!

Best practical book on dream interpretation
If you ask me, this is the best book about dream interpretation. I have this book already ten years, and I still didn~{!/~}t find anything better. To me, the most important aspect of this book is that it allows me to interpret my dreams personally, by looking deeply within myself, instead of running outside to find solutions to my dreams. There~{!/~}s no need for dream dictionaries and archetypes. I can make my own dictionary based on my personal experience, and this differs between individuals. Ever since I read this book, I~{!/~}m able to speak with my dream ~{!.~}characters~{!/~} and symbols, and to understand what they wish to convey to me. The techniques are simple, testable, and ring true. This book doesn~{!/~}t elaborate much about lucid dreams, out of body experiences, etc, but as a book about dream interpretation it is the best I ever had.

Excellent resource!
I recommend this technique to all my screenwriting students.

A modern, comprehensible, useful book
This is the only book that has helped me really understand the difference between childhood, present day and meaningful symbols. I would love to read more on this authors' findings.

great set of books, some of the best i've read.
i found these books to be great. very descriptive and worth reading agin. anne mccaffery is wonderful writer that deserves praise. works of art.

Marina Sirtis is an excellent choice to read this trilogy.
I'm a great fan of McCaffery, and I like this series second behind the Dragonriders. Marina Sirtis reads it well, a bit hypnotically in spots. I can't tell if its abridged or not. These tapes are great in the car. They keep the kids quiet even on short runs.

These books are a great read!
I have all three of these books and can only hope that there will be more. Once again we are taken into yet another realm of fantasy by one of the genre's most skilled & talented authors.

This is a must read for anyone wanting to empower themselves and create an atmosphere where others are empowered. From personal empowerment to working with or leading a group of any size from couple to family to committee to corporation the concepts are based on finding your purpose and working together using the empowerment cycle. This little book had great meaning for me on both a personal and work level and will for many others.

"Dock" here and learn to sing the song in your heart.
Tired of the dead-end of perfectionism? Fatigued by the detours of denial? Frustrated with the roadblocks of blame and humiliation? Fed up with the gridlock of unrealistic expectations? Then Denton L. Roberts's newest book, enhanced by the able touch of Frances Thronson, can be an empowering roadmap to new pathways for creative living for you. Plumbing the depths of his experiences as a pastor, counselor, marriage and family therapist, community center leader, and organizational consultant for the past 35 years, Denton Roberts offers the unique concept of "docking" as a new framework for understanding human relations. He provides specific help for individuals and groups and group leaders, especially in the chapters on "the success and distress cycles" and "problem solving." Roberts sprinkles enlivening measures of humor throughout his carefully described conceptual theories and spices his entire effort with real-life examples of creative transformation. He also displays the ecclectic, wide-ranging scope of his thinking with abundant references to poetry, ficiton, social commentary, and psychological literature. Sensuality and Intelligence combined for a potent brew
I will not rehash a review of the story - others have done an admirable job of this. Suffice it to say that Ms. Power is an author whose style is unique. She is not afraid of making her readers think even as they fall in love with her characters. The world she draws is complete and compelling, dragging you into her characters' lives and making you feel as though you are looking over their shoulders. The love scenes are powerful and intensely sensual - they burn the pages. Her American Beauties trilogy is a series not to be missed!

Beautiful Victorian romance

In 1880 London, Lord Bryce Falconer has new reasons to loathe his former spouse, American Beauty Colleen VanderHorn. It is bad enough that he fell in love with her, only to have her cheat on him with a succession of lovers before he ended their farce of a marriage. Now she goes over the top by abducting their child, Ford, demanding money for the lad's safe return.

Bryce knows he needs help and turns to Colleen's younger sister Augusta, who has helped him before with his ex-wife's scandals. Gus has secretly loved Bryce for the five years she knows him, but he treats her like a younger sister. As they search for the missing child, whose life they fear from Colleen's latest lover, an Irish freedom fighter, Bryce falls in love with Gus. However, they both know nothing can come of their love because God and country treat any marital relationships even between ex in-laws as taboo.

Though this stupendous Victorian romance series is over, readers will shout to author Jo Ann Power for more tales about the American Beauties. All three novels (see NEVER BEFORE and NEVER AGAIN) are warm historical romances that bring to life a piece of the Victorian era. NEVER SAY NEVER is a fine work due to a fast-paced story line filled with authenticity and the forbidden love of the lead characters. It is to be hoped that, Ms. Powers will read her own title and scribe future works, starring other American Beauties.

A fabulous medieval romance!
I loved this book! The hero and heroine are completely endearing, & the sensuality between them sparkles throughout. It's a fast-paced, satisfying read that has taken its place on my keeper shelf. Enjoy!

a hauntingly lyrical medieval romance
For the past seven years, Clare, the Countess of Trent, has managed to avoid marrying anyone in spite of the increasing pressure from King Henry to wed one of his loyal supporters. Clare prefers to write heroic adventures of derring do under the pseudonym of The Nightingale, a secret occupation that she feels a spouse will halt. However, the world has arrived at her castle's wall near the Welsh marshes. The King has selected someone for Clare to marry. This selected paragon is younger than the twenty-three years old female hermit, but in 1403 England, a woman has little choice in her ultimate destiny. Worse yet for the besieged Lady is that her intended is the nephew of Jordan The Dragon, who is coming to escort her to her betrothed. ....... However, when The Dragon nears her walls, he finds himself under attack. Only the daring rescue of Clare saves his life. To his shock, Jordan finds himself immediately in love with his rescuer, the woman he has sworn to escort to another man for her to marry. As the danger mounts from treacherous foes, Clare finds that she loves The Dragon also. However, even if they survive their perilous enemies and a royal decree, honor still stands in the way of a lasting relationship between The Nightingale and The Dragon. ........ With her marvelous talent, Jo-Ann Powers empowers her audience with a sense of seeing first hand the Middle Ages as few writers are capable of doing. Her current Medieval romance, THE NIGHTINGALE'S SONG, is a fast-paced story line that will thrill readers with the dilemma between honor and love. This is a great work that should not be missed by fans of the sub-genre. .....Harriet Klausner

Good one...
Thought it would be rehash of other marketing books--nothing big, nothing new. Wrong. Good stuff on the trendspreaders, versus the trendsetters. Makes me rethink do you wanna be Alpha or Bee, and if you're a marketer, if you're wasting money chasing the first versus the third one to try something new. I know the authors' work from NEXT, but this BUZZ is much more focused, and insightful, also a very easy read. It's almost too fun to be a business book.

A vision of the future
This book is written by real visionaries who thoughtfully and thoroughly open your eyes to the truth about marketing in an information saturated society. Nothing works harder or better than word of mouth and instead of waiting around and hoping it might happen for your business, buy this book and learn how to create it. You'll be amazed at the fascinating stories, ideas and practical applications crammed in this enormously intelligent book that will help you understand how to create successful buzz for your business.

Eminently Readable
Buzz is the sort of business book that lay readers will find informative and fascinating. The examples are timely and thought provoking, helping me understand why some products and campaigns are successful and others are not. In today's marketplace, the consumer needs to be as savvy as the marketer.
