I've read and re-read this book at least three times, and each time I gain something new. I keep loaning this book out to my friends, and I don't think a single one of them has returned a copy to me! So beware.

Have you ever been "in the right place at the right time?" I have on many occasions and I'm sure you have, too. So how did we get there? That, to me, is an important question.

The "Secrets" book will give you a very good idea on how to be in the right place at the right time...consistently! It has answers to many of the questions I've wondered about and it's written in a very easy to understand manner.

I can only say that reading this book was and continues to be a life changing experience. I have read it several times and each time I get more and more out of it.

Prior to finding this book I had read many self improvement texts and made some progress in my personal development. The only problem is that the improvements were not lasting, things just did not 'stick'. Some time later I would find myself drifting back into the same 'old ways'.

The 'Secrets Book' has changed all that. The improvements I have made are real and lasting. I can only say that Mr Walter has produced a true masterpiece of great value.

If you really want to make lasting and certain improvement to your state of mind and mood level, read this book. Not just once, but many times.

This book is the best I have read on nuclear power written for the reader with no to little technical background. The author, a former president of the American Nuclear Society, addresses all the common arguments used against nuclear energy. His arguments are clearly presented with informative tables and figures.

An absolutely great book for understanding this complex issue and explaining why the US needs to develop more nuclear power facilities. Waltar writes the book in a very approachable, non-technical manner which allows just about anyone to understand the concepts and issues related to nuclear energy. The book is structured so each chapter provides a rebuttle to the long standing, traditional key arguments (nuclear waste disposal, pollution, radiation, reactor safety, nuclear bombs, etc.) against nuclear energy. Excellent background references are provided for each chapter and good illustrations and charts are used throughout the book to provide emphasis and help compare the various qualitative issues. By the end of the book all the arguments against nuclear energy have been refuted, leading the reader to the obvious conclusion that we should pursue nuclear energy. This book should be read by anyone who wishes to be better informed about key issues in our country's (and the world's) future.

Truely a great read, and so eloquently written in Alan's typical writing of the heart. Handle with Prayer has strengthened my prayer life, and has allowed me to appreciate the good in myself and others. This book will not only deepen your relationship with God through prayer, but it will also teach you that through prayer and praise with the Lord, your dreams will come to life. I have sent this little book to so many of my friends as gifts and they, too, have passed it on to their family and friends. It is very spiritually inspiring, uplifting, and a refreshing approach to manifesting our destiny through the guidance of prayer, and the love of God. I wish I was allowed to give ten stars here!

Handle with Prayer is an incredibly power book that unfolds the truth about what prayer is for. The book gave me the tools for using my prayers to affirm and know I would have exactly what I was praying for. To not only pray, but to be thankful in my prayers for what I was about to receive. And yes, I did and have received exactly what I was praying for. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to have their prayers heard and answered.

I have always loved the writings of Alan Cohen, and this book lives up to his prior works. I truly felt the intent and compassion behind this book, as evidenced by the goosebumps I had while reading it. This book is down-to-earth and practical, its suggestions thoughtful, thought-provoking, and do-able. This is a wonderful book for those just realizing the value of prayer, or as a confirmation for those already on the path of living a prayer-ful life.

Professor Rosenthal specializes in writing clearly about state legislatures. He understands the dynamics of the system and yet writes with a strong attention to detail. While he communicates the problems he is neither a muckraker nor a shill. One wishes that more academics would take the care he does in writing about their subjects. You should also check out his earlier book on the third house.

This work is one that must be read by all people interested in the reasons behind why our governmental system is in shambles. I live in our nation's capital and I cannot understand how people can take for granted the wonders that the US has to offer. The freedoms that we currnetly enjoy are unparalelled to any other time in History. Despite this, people in our society spit on the bill of rights and say 'that is how it has always been.' It must be warned that when a society of ideal people moves to a society of ignorance (presently ours) our society will not be able to sustain itself. This is the essence of this book. People must learn why our democracy is falling apart if they wish to remedy the situation. This situation is one that certainly must be remedied if we are to contonue into the next millenium.

I find myself wondering how we went from a patriotic society of John Adams, George Washington and others to a society of selfishness. We are presently a society that looks foolish in so many regards. The pamphlet, Common Sense was written to energize people to fight for the basic rights of man. It is a sad day when novels like this must be written. However, note the word must. I hope that this book does not need to be read in the future, but presently it is necessary to remedy the problem. This book illustrates they ways in which our society has gone wrong and with enough hard long thought the answers to fixing those problems can be deduced. NOTE: This is not a civics book, nor does it show how government operates but for higher level thinkers, interested in making America the robust leaaderin liberty that she once was, this book must be read.

I first read this book when it was entered into a media history book competition for which I was a judge, before Sept. 11 and Afghanistan and Iraq. I was extremely impressed then. More recently, I have assigned my media history students (undergraduate and graduate students) to read it, and this fall, I am requiring graduate students in media law to read it. I'm not using this book so much because I'm too lazy to find or read another one; it's really that good. Nearly every sentence forces one to think about democracy, law, journalism, the nature of government, the role of the military, and the information needs of average citizens. It's not only for professors and journalism, history or law students. One of the best books I've ever read--no kidding.

Although published before the current war on terrorism, this book's historical overview of the relationship between media and the American government during times of war is strikingly relevant to today's headlines. Military tribunals for civilians? Abe Lincoln tried that in the Civil War. Another intriguing element is the discussion of how suppression of the atomic bomb's development -- by both the government and the media -- led to not only an ill-informed public, but an ill-informed president and may have impacted the final actions of World War II.
Filled with solid scholarly research, this book is still accessible to the lay reader and offers fascinating insight into our country's history. From the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War, it covers who, among journalists and politicians, took what actions in time of war; why they thought they were justified; and what impact these actions had on political, legal and military developments.

Westin pieces together bits and pieces of key legal briefs, Truman's memoirs, and an account of the social and political forces operating at the time of the seizure. If you ever wanted to know what the key actors were really thinking and what happened after the Supreme Court declared Truman's action unconstitutional, this book is a must read.

A comprehensive look at book jacket design from the twenties to the nineties. The book only covers fiction and is divided into themed spreads with between five and nine covers on each. Author Powers writes detailed captions to each cover as well as providing short essays on each decade and genre. Nearly three hundred covers are shown in this well designed and printed book, none of them are angled or overlap other covers.

As the title covers the last eighty years there is not much opportunity to show lots of great covers in the same style put out by some English publishers, only two examples are shown of the unique designs created by Brian Cook for Batsford in the thirties and although there are several Penguin paperbacks included I would liked to have seen more. Actually Penguins should have a book all to themselves, the company has published hundreds of titles with knockout covers.

Most of the jackets were designed in the UK but there is a good showing of well designed US covers. There are some pulp fiction and thriller covers apart from the literary stuff. A very similar book with 270 American covers is 'Jackets Required' by Steven Heller and Seymour Chwast, covering jacket design from 1920 thru 1950 and if you have both these books it will make an excellent visual record of some of the best twentieth century fiction

Modern Block Printed Textiles is a small publication dealing with successful exponents of this method of printing textiles in the United Kingdom and the United States, in the fist half of the 20th century. Although the technique is simple, Powers' book and the designs themselves amply display the artistic and creative results achieved. There are plenty of quality reproductions to illustrate the text, which is a brief but facsinating introduction to and record of the works of these textile designers.

Powers' focus is the social scene of the times, that made a 'kitchen-table' craft a highly successful expression of sophisticated artistic talent. Textile designers very often remain anonymous, probably because of the 'craft' associations and because many of these designers were women. Importantly Powers indentifies and has made some significant art history available for the art/craft scene of these times. Interestingly enough, Powers has been able to interview some of the artists from the 30s, 40s and 50s, often still practicing, at the time of the preparation of this book, which adds to the relevance of textile block printing (and any other craft) right now. This is important for contempory artists who feel that artistic and creative expression have roles in enhancing the quality of everyday life for everyone. This book will widen the perspectives of artists interested in such work, and these designers are excellent role models.

The use of these textiles, and the commissions for them are also interesting. Powers I think is very interested in a block printing revival for textiles specifically, and fine craft generally, and this small but inspirational book, with its excellent visual examples and rewarding text is an outstanding achievement for the field. Any designer or printmaker would want to own this book.

The book was very good but not near as good as hearing Mr. Clarke speak in person. If you ever have a chance to hear him speak, don't miss it. If not that, read his book. It's more than about climbing a mountain, it's about striving to do our best, to try our hardest in what ever we do every day. Everyone has a "mountain". We each need to face the challenge and strive to do our best to conquer it.
