Features the pioneer photography of Julia E. Tuell
Women and Warriors of the Plains features the pioneer photography of Julia E. Tuell, whose black and white photos documented Native American women's lives and times. The Tuells lived among the Sioux from 1912 to 1929, with Julia using her photography to document their rapidly-changing way of life. Her photos are both artistic and historically important documents of early Sioux women's lives.

An outstanding contribution to Native American studies.
An excellent pick, Dan Aadland's Women And Warriors Of The Plains provides a review of the early photography of Julia Tuell, whose black and white portraits of Native American women are accompanied by fine accounts of life with the Northern Cheyenne and others.

Virginia's Historic Courthouses - A Must Have Text
The Peters took their avocation of loving and studying Virginia architecture and combined it with their vocation as historian and photographer to create this great resource. If you are the kind of person who wants to know the real details behind Virginia public architecture, this is the text to have on your shelf. You get an insider's play book into Thomas Jefferson's inspiration and influence, and which of his builders worked on what projects and why. You also get the nitty gritty of what the battles were like leading up to the structures becoming a reality. The color photos by John Peters are calendar quality, and even if you are not a Virginian, they crisply illustrate how the Old Dominion influenced municipal and governmental architecture all over the country,and maybe even in your own town or state.

Not for the modern-day Anarchist.
Almost all (with the exception of a few) of the things in here are accurate in the sense that they show you BASICALLY how to do something, but also in the sense that the way it tells you how to do it is so dangerous that it will most likely fail. This is not really a true guide on homemade exploseives and such, this is more of a book for entertainment. If you really want to know how to make homemade exploseives try "HOME WORKSHOP EXPLOSIVES" by Uncle Fester, now that book is the real deal. This books techniques are tooken from military handbooks that date back to about 30 years ago! I wouldent trust any of the techniques in this book unless I was 100% positive that it would work.

This book is an oldie but a goodie, a must buy for haveing on your entertainemt shelf on your bookcase just to show off to everyone that you have the legendary "ANARCHIST COOKBOOK".

Anarchy=Suicide?
This book is a great piece of history. Nice to read if you are planning on losing a limb or poisoning yourself. The Anarchist Cookbook was an interesting thing to stumble upon in the 60's and 70's, but in '03, the average Joe-Anarchy isn't going to have much use with it.

Interesting and phunny!
This book is great for just general information, and it's also good for a laugh! I only made smoke bombs and other harmless stuff, but I benefitted greatly from the information contained. I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a little swearing and a few violent concepts.

A "don't buy this book" kinda Book
when I saw it's non-authenticity, I returned it for full credit. Fr. Powell has been duped!

A Catholic Distortion of Cheyenne Culture
Powell, a Catholic priest, has an agenda unrelated to the great mythic story of Sweet Medicine (Motseyoef in the Tsistsistas [Cheyenne] language; untranslatable in English), in which he has tried to blend the ancient indigenous spirituality of the proto-Algonquians with Christianity. Beginning only around 1830 with Suhtaio and Tsistsitas conflicts with the Pawnees and other Native Nations of the upper -trans-Missouri Basin, he doesn't even talk about Sweet Medicine, barely mentioning him and then going on to a standard replay of American history. It is a uninspired recitation of questionable information used to justify the missionaries converting the Indians to a better God and Civilization.

Sweet Medicine is beautiful, sensitive, and scholarly
Father Peter J. Powell (who, contrary to the misinformation passed in another reader's review, is an Episcopalian priest) is the premium scholar of Cheyenne culture and religion. A Sun Dance priest himself, adopted by the Cheyenne, Father Powell renders the beautiful story of Sweet Medicine in evocative prose. After reading his work, I was privileged to meet Father Powell on a sad, but touching occasion, when he presided over the funeral of the great Cheyenne educator Bill Tall Bull in Lame Deer, Montana several years ago. Father Powell is held in great reverence by the Northern Cheyenne people, and on that day was sought out after the service by countless members of the tribe with greetings, hugs, and thanks. I can recommend SWEET MEDICINE without reservation to anyone with interest in Plains Indian culture.
