Interesting Alternative
This book is just so neat! It can be used as a toy or decoration! The book opens to form a circle with a lot of the Hogwarts rooms featured in GREAT DETAIL. It's an interesting alternative to reading all about Harry Potter and Hogwarts School, you can actually see another visual representation of what J.K. Rowling invented. It would make a great/unique present for the Harry Potter fan in your life.

great way to read painlessly in French
These are children's books with a lot of action and dialogue-- perfect, easy reading for the non-native speaker, well and carefully translated...

Awesome book
I found it great! I'm taking French currently and although I had to ask my dad for a lot of the words, I found it funny! Great translation, and as usual, the best book. Read the English version before you read others to get the real J.K. Rowling. But still a great substitution for non-English speakers.

This book is a gotta read, the BEST!
Harry Potter is with his uncle, aunt, and cousin, who he hates so much, he would give almost anything to get out of there when his Aunt Marge comes to vist with her pit bull-Ripper. He loses control over his magic, and blows her up. Harry is on the run, but not for long. The Ministry of Magic finds him, and acts like they are thankful to find him, alive, and he soon finds out why.First, a strange dog scares him, and Harry almost gets killed. He is being treated very weired, until he finds out why. The infamous prisoner of Azakban, the wizard prison, has escaped and is after him. Harry is not safe anywhere, even at his school, Hogwarts. This book has an ending that you will never guess and is funny, with a lot of mystery in it. It is one of the best books that I have ever read in my life and I think that you will love it too!

These books are wonderful translations
The translation of these books is absolutely faithful in style to the original, it loses nothing, and it's a joy to read! Sometimes, when the English doesn't translate well, the translator made up her/his own puns, in a perfectly matching style. (The Sorting Hat is called le Choixpeau in the French books, for example.) I'd say one wonderful use of these books would be to be read by English-speaking students of French of all ages, who are familar with the English version. They will learn a lot quickly and painlessly. :)

Harry Potter is great in English and French!
I am French and I have read all three Harry Potter books in both languages, and it is just wonderful. The translation from English into French is very good because you get the same exciting feeling. Harry Potter books are masterpieces and everyone, of all ages, should read them! Remember that there are 7 Harry Potter books in all and number four is coming out this summer! I am looking forward to the other masterpiece from J.K. Rowling. I recommend Harry Potter in French and English for one and all. Lisez les Harry Potter! Ils sont fabuleux! Vous les aimerez et vos enfants aussi!

Harry Potter en francais worth the read...
Ok, I have been a Harry Potter fan since I read the English version, so I decided to try my luck at the French version, as French is another one of my favorite hobbies. Now, I am only a second year French student, but I could understand quite a bit of the story, and it really is fun to read. I would definitely suggest to all my fellow French-speakers out there, who happen to love Harry Potter or only want to see what the craze is all about, to try the French series. It's fun and helps you learn French! And for those that are familar with the English version, I would suggest getting a translation sheet from the Internet, because some of the names have been changed, and they are found through search engines and are free! Just try this, good luck and enjoy!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
J.K. Rowling's novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the series. Each novel revolves around Harry Potter and his life as he goes through wizard school. Although it makes this book more interesting it is not necessary to read the previous books in the series in order to comprehend this book. Rowling writes in a fashion that provides adequate information, allowing the book to stand alone.
The novel opens by telling about the mysterious death of a family, the Riddles. The suspect was the house caretaker,Frank, but nothing was ever proven. Despite the fact that the house is empty Frank still maintains it and one evening he sees something odd occuring in the house. He goes inside and encounters Lord Voldemort and Wormtail. Voldemort is the enemy of Harry Potter and is out to get him. From this point on Voldemort and his accomplice set out on the mission to capture Harry Potter and destroy him after they get what they need from him. Harry Potter is an extraordinary wizard and has previously defeated Lord Voldemort, and now he seeks revenge. The plot covers every event in Harry's fourth year at Hogwart's School of Wizardry and finally a battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort, which makes for an exciting ending.
Rowling's style of writing is so entertaining and fun , that any age reader can enjoy it. Even though the characters are imaginary, Rowling brings Harry and the others to life in her novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone. It is a great read and will definitely hold your attention.

Review for Teacher's Guide
It was a good guide, but some bits of it were confusing for little kids. For others it worked well and was a great way to get Harry Potter taught in the classrom.

Superficial and tedious
A thoroughly disappointing book. Lovers of the Harry Potter series will be irritated by the superficial attempt to list every possible analogy to names or occurances; teachers will be hard-pressed to find any useful material here as a forum for discussion. Much tedious research has gone into this book but the 'exploration' is more one of turning over the pebbles than of getting out a spade and actually digging.
This is to be the first of a series of 'Sourcebooks for Exploring Young Adult Fiction' with a commentary on the Narnia Chronicles set to follow. Hopefully the publishers will avoid trivializing and torturing further works as they have done here and treat young readers' minds with greater respect.
My advice is simple. Don't bother to read this. But to help you make up your own mind here is an excerpt.

"Harry can also be regarded as a medieval crusader, draped in symbolic robes in quest of the Holy Grail. As a Seeker, Harry battles heretics during games of Quidditch. His accident symbolizes a fall from grace before he can rise again as a worthy spiritual leader. Avoiding the fate of Lot's wife who turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back at Sodom, Harry leaves the Quidditch field with his face forward, avoiding glancing to either side. He also evades the basilisk's gaze."

who did her research?
The only thing that I liked about this book were the discussion questions at the end. I am not sure who did her research, but some of the basic facts were wrong in her overview of characters. It is one thing to speculate on the nature of the stories, that is to be expected in this kind of book, but facts that have been spelled out in the books are not open for debate. for example, she misidentifies several characters. also, the last section of the book, when she speculates on the future of harry potter, is nothing more than filler material. it serves no purpose other than to use up a few more pages. save your money. if you are interested in it, go to the library, it isn't worth the cash.

Let the Kids in!
Umm, what about us? I read the reviews here and most of themcame from adults. I really liked this book. It helped me understandHarry Potter better and the connections really gave you something tothink about. You older people may not have liked this book, but theonly good reviews came from kids. No book is trash. That's what I'velearned. And I want to be an author when I grow up. Those who havealready grown up sometimes don't give books a chance. I'll admit- ittook me two weeks to get into Redwall. But what about the goodqualities of this book? There's a complete list of every singlecharacter in the first three books. I must have skipped over orforgotten lots of them! There are great discussion questions- I nowhave ideas for my website. And what about the vocabulary at the end ofeach chapter? I now know a lot more words than I did before. Adultswho have read this may have already known them. But kids haven'tlearned everything yet. And I like to learn.
