THE BEST BOOK EVER
I think Slime Time is a cartoon. Its worth1 point and it's a very good book. Two boys win a game show called SLIME TIME His skateboard it got bad over night. The game was on TV. The sisters did not win the game. It's a silly book so if you like a silly book here's the one for you. Getting dunked in chocolate sauce and spread with feathers is for the losing team . Its is a wacky fun filled book.

Best Short Story Of All Time!
I read this book in Elementary School and still remember how good it was! It is written very well and deals with a unique subject, two friends and a "Nickelodeon-type" game show. A toy line called "Dino-Tots" (or something like that) is also featured in this book, with a reoccurring jingle that I'm sure you'll memorize before the end of the book. I wish that this book would go back in print so that I could buy a copy of my own. I also hope that there will be a sequel in the future!

Great history, great lesson
This is a short story in the American Girls Short Stories series about Addy Walker, a ten-year-old African-American girl living in the America of 1865. After the joy of celebrating the end of the Civil War, Addy's world is thrown into confusion when she receives the news the President Abraham Lincoln was shot. All her hopes for a better future seem gone. However, just when things look their darkest, Addy finds reason to hope.

The final chapter is a historical look at Lincoln's death and its aftermath, and then a nice quiz on Mr. Lincoln. (My eleven-year-old daughter got 8 out of 8!) Once again, Connie Porter has produced a great Addy book, one that shows what life was really like, and teaches a lesson. We highly recommend this book!

Very highly recommended!
LAZARO'S REVENGE is a modern-day Beauty and Beast. Lazaro is dark, edgy and has become one of my all-time favorite romance heroes. Zoe doesn't seem to be his equal, but looks are deceiving. Throughout the book she discovers and appreciates her inner strength. It is through her optimism, love and belief in him that Lazaro doesn't get lost in his burning desire to destroy. This against-all-odds romance is about sacrifices and difficult choices. If you love reading romances, you should read LAZARO'S REVENGE.

William Wallace and Robert the Bruce
"The Scottish Chiefs" is a classic adventure tale, told in the style of Sir Walter Scott's "Rob Roy." The National Hero of Scotland, William Wallace, gets his story told with a heavy emphasis on romance and drama.

Those seeking a book version of "Braveheart" may be disappointed, as the story is quite different. The William Wallace of "The Scottish Chiefs," like the historical William Wallace, is a castle dwelling nobleman who surrenders his fortunes to fight for Scotland. The writing style is thick, and should be familiar to readers of this genre. "The Scottish Chiefs" is a huge, heavy book with a plot that unfolds at a patient pace.

This edition of "The Scottish Chiefs" contains illustrations by N.C. Wyeth, and acclaimed illustrator of Children's books and the father of artist Andrew Wyeth. The paintings are all direct scenes from the book, and capture the spirit of the adventure in fine detail.

A good read...Historically more accurate than Braveheart...
I read this book twice while I was in school, and now that I'm a History major, I've come to appreciate it even more. The story is descriptive, satisfying, and faithful to the memories of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, and Sir William Wallace.

While not perfect historically, it is much closer to what actually occurred than the events as shown in Mel Gibson's BRAVEHEART. Perhaps someone should use SCOTTISH CHIEFS as a basis.

very good
My copy of this book was published in 1858, I found it in a little second hand book store in Stirling, Scotland, not far from the castle. I found the book to be well written and very interesting, especially if you had spent time at "Bannock Burn", or had seen, and visited the Wallace Monument. If you get the chance to visit the area where this great story took place you can see the "Scots" as they took control of the field of battle and destroyed Edward army. It's too bad that the movie didn't tell the whole story. I THINK this book is one which should be read by all Americians (as well as FREE PEOPLE anywhere) as it tells the story of our founding fathers and the freedom they sought for all of us.

Verdi: A Biography
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (1993)
Authors: Mary Jane Phillips-Matz and Andrew Porter
Amazon base price: $60.00
Used price: $26.47
Average review score:

Viva Verdi in this magisterial and definitive tome!
Viva Verdi is the opera lover's response to this magisterial work by Phillips-Matz. Her years of research has produced a detailed life of Verd. The author traces the family lineage of Verdi in Bussetto, chronicles the genesis of his operatic masterpieces and delves into the private life of the greatest Italian opera composer of the nineteenth century.
I dove into this huge book during Christmas 2002. The book will immerse you in the life of the complicated composer detailing his relationships, his tragedies and triumphs. The book
is essential to anyone interested in knowing more about Verdi and his times. The book is not easy reading but is worthwhile for the time it takes to peruse it. Viva Phillips-Matz on a superb biography!

What else would you need to know?
I have just finished reading this book. It was my intention to get the bits and pieces I have been taught over the years about Verdi together in order to teach a short course on him in January 2000. It has done so much more. If you're looking for a book that details the opera plots and offers translations of the librettos, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a great summary of what we know about this truly great man, his friends and enemies, his work habits, his interests in farming and charity, the gestation and difficult birth of his operas and other words -- and what we *don't* know, things that might still be discovered -- you've come to the right place. It has NEVER taken me so long to read a book because the pages are so densely detailed. That being said, I am very glad that I did. VERY glad. Here is a hero for the ages, pace his operas.

The definitive biography of Verdi
I can't imagine a more complete collection of information about Verdi's long and productive life. Phillips-Matz captures the feeling of mid-century Italy and among other things she shows how Verdi became a hero in the movement culminating in Italian statehood. Viva Verdi!

In Dante's Debt

Sell the ranch already!
Back Cover description: Count Dante Galvan was ruthless. Though is broke Daisy's heart to hand over control of her family's horse farm to him, she had no alternative-she was in Dante's debt up to her ears!

Part of the deal included Daisy relocating to Dante's ranch in Argentina. Daisy knew she was far too ordinary to ever become the count's wife. But could she resist Dante's demands that she repay her dues in his bed?

Dante's character is OK, but I really didn't care for Daisy's. This is one of those female leads that rub you the wrong way just about every time she opens her mouth. Daisy's family owes a lot of money to Dante. I don't recall him demanding she repay him in bed, they just wind up there. She has a problem with her dad; Dante has a problem with his sister. This is the first Jane Porter book I've read. I'll try another to see if this is typical of her writing.

Can't agree with the other reviewers!
This book was so repetitive of all the formula romance plots, I just found it boring & plodded my way through it. I like Jane Porter's writing but the plot was just so typical-formula-romance, no surprises here, no suspense & not sensual enough. Blah, humbug.

Highly recommended!

Daisy Collingsworth's is in debt, so she must turn over the control of the family's Kentucky horse farm to Count Dante Galván. He is ruthless in business and demands Daisy move to his ranch in the land of his birth as part of the deal that will settle the debt. Will she also have to repay the debt in his bed?

I love foreign heroes and this Argentina aristocrat is fantastic! IN DANTE'S DEBT is packed with sizzling passion, intense conflict, and will have you lusting for more from these sexy characters . Highly recommended!

a so-so book
This book was okay but not the best it helped but you would need other resouses to help you.If this were the only thing you used to make your web site you would be lost, but for a person who kinda knows what there doing this is a good book.

If you're looking to build youre own website....
This book is informative for mostly kids if you want to build your own website. IT's not the best on the planet, so that's why it gets 4 out of 5 stars. You can post logos, write articles, Micromedia flash plays, and even advertisement if you want it. You could really do something off of this book. And I really suggest the [$$$] offer for this book and 101 things to do with your computer.

The Sheikh's Wife
Published in Hardcover by Harlequin Mills & Boon Ltd (30 July, 2001)
Author: Jane Porter

Average review score:

Very Disappointing
This book was breath takingly bad. It starts out with a lot of promise and then falls flat. The main characters fail to grab you. Sheikh Kahlil al-Assad is too hard. He never really develops any kind of relationship with his son and treats Bryn, his wife, like she is dirt, unless they are in bed. Bryn on the other hand comes off as very weak and not at all real. A woman who runs away from her husband with nothing, as she did three years before, would not beg and cry and act like Bryn does throughout the story. The endng is also poorly written. It was very rushed and too easy. There is no confrotation between Bryn and Amin, or Amin and Kahlil. All in all it is a book that is not worth the time it takes to read. I only finished reading it because I kept thinking it HAD to get better. It didn't.

An Emotional Read
I recently discovered this author and find her books fascinating in that they aren't typical. This story is emotional, the hero strong and gritty. I found the love story touching in that it wasn't predictable. If you are tired of the usual fluff, give this author a try.

Another terrific read from a very talented author!
Jane Porter is an author with amazing talent and THE SHEIKH'S WIFE is just another testament to this fact. Full of riveting emotions and page-turning, bone-melting passion, readers will not soon forget such a wonderful story.

THE SHEIKH'S WIFE takes the drama of romance, arresting characterization, and sizzling sexual tension to new heights for this sub-genre. Ms. Porter's writing style is crystal clear and smooth as silk. The plot was intriguing and certainly full of twists which can leave the reader guessing... and feeling pleasantly surprised too.

For those who enjoy stories about alpha males, this book will force you to put life on hold until you've reached the very last page... and then you'll want to start reading it all over again. It's that good! Don't miss it.

The worst book I ever read
I hated this book!!! The hero was a decent guy but the heroine - she pushed every ick button I have. Selfish, selfish, selfish and this is supposed to be romance? I didn't think so.

Characters Need More Work !!
Jane Porter may portray Maggie as fun, passionate, generous and caring but she doesn't really succeed in it. Maggie got pregnant by some jerk and comes back home. When Nic finds out, he demands to marry her. They get married but then there's the question about their love for each other.

To me, Maggie was a passive person, someone that doesn't have the emotion and strength. Nic has the hero quality but he's too military like. He doesn't seem to show a lot of emotion. I know he has the emotions because the author even puts the story from his point of view. But they deffinitely need more work. Especially with one of their problem. I thought that it wasn't really resolved and that the characters just left it alone.

I gave this 3 stars because there are some good points to the story. Like their truth or dare game, which showed some realness to it.

^_^ ~ Izzy

Great story by a new writer
When Meg comes home to California, it is to hide from her problems and decide what to do about her unborn child. But she runs into Niccolo Dominici, a man she wanted in her past, and a man who knows the secrets of her past. But when he finds out she's pregnant, his honor demands he marry her, whether she likes it or not.

This is a good, strong showing for a new author with promise. Though I don't usually read Harlequin romances, this one was very well done. Meg is tough, but fragile. Niccolo is very sexy and I think Porter's description of his machismo is right on. The change his personality undergoes is realistic and satisfying.
