A great book on ships of the Great Lakes
Received this as a gift and am very pleased with its contents. Growing up in Menominee, Michigan during the 50's and 60's gave me plenty of opportunity to watch the 'lakers' come and go. With two coal docks, a limestone dock, paper mill, and daily Ann Arbor car ferry service, there was always a ship or two in port. Now this book helps me relive those days with memories, data, and history of many of the ships, or ship types I saw. This book is packed with great photos, and interesting accounts of the ships presented. I enjoyed it enough to put volume 2 on my Christmas wish list, and will probably purchase volume 3 to complete the set. It maked me wish that I still lived on a Great Lake port to watch the ship movements.

A must have for all lovers of Great Lakes Ship
This a great book for many of the ships that have sailed the Great Lakes. A positive is all of the photographs included in it. A must have.

A must have book for those interested in Great Lakes Ships
If you have an interest in the cargo carriers of the Great Lakes - this is one book you must have. This first book contains all the major carries (Fitzgerald, Eastland, etc) as well as less well known ones. Worth the money.

The End of Change: How Your Company Can Sustain Growth and Innovation While Avoiding Change Fatigue

Packed With Knowledge!
If the wildly successful Who Moved My Cheese? represents the kindergarten version of basic change management theory, The End of Change makes a welcomed leap to graduate-level studies. Authors Peter Scott-Morgan, Erik Hoving, Henk Smith and Arnoud Van Der Slot maintain that many of the concepts intrinsic in the current genre of change management are just plain wrong. In reality, companies that successfully manage change do so by building structures specifically designed to induce and digest change into their overall organizations. In order to explain these structures, the authors present them in the form of geometric shapes - a metaphor that is easy to grasp and easily captures the essence of each strategy. These graphic examples are reinforced with real-life examples of companies and industries that manage change in ways that closely resemble the book's shape-based techniques. We [...] recommend that all executives and students read this book, which takes a sophisticated approach to a topic that has been addressed by a slew of authors and consultants-turned-authors on the most superficial of levels.

NOTHING IS AS PRACTICAL AS A GOOD THEORY
Excellent book which strongly stimulates the reader to re-think his own vested ideas about change, innovation and organizational structure. Unlike most "Management books" the End of Change is not a simple "How To" book, tediously listing endless recommendations with bullet points. Due to its compact and clear style this book offers a clear pathway to those trying to cope with relentless change - and who is not ?

Based on a clear and consistent methodology, the End of Change is in the end a very practical book - about people. Although this well structured book contains a lot of easy to be remembered slides and presentations - common in Strategy Consulting nowadays - its strenghts can also be found in its aforisms, examples and methaphors.

Besides other sources (not the least being the year long consulting experience of its authors), the End of Change further builts on Peter Scott Morgan's, "The unwritten Rules of the Game". The basic concepts of the End of Change enable the reader to deepen his insight in the dynamics of change in general - while giving him the opportunity to apply these to his own personal experiences and areas of business life which have been to much neglected in periods of serious change (for example, amongst many others, Recruting & HR policies)

For those who are interested how changing business environments effect our daily lives, this book is a " Must-Read".

Hieroglyphs from A to Z: A Rhyming Book With Ancient Egyptian Stencils for Kids
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (1993)

great
this is a great book on hieroglyphs for children. but if you are older and just beginning to learn this is also a great book for you. but if you have already been studing hieroglyphs this is not the book for you. but if you have children this is a book you will want to buy

Simple introduction to hieroglyphs.
I liked this book because it can be used with a wide age range of children. The introductory rhyme and ABC rhymes on each page are especially suited to younger children, while the smaller text at the bottom of the page gives more information for older children. For example, the page for 'R' says 'R is for rabbit. Make a move - off he'll go.' At the bottom of the page you find the hieroglyph for r, an explanation of the symbol, how to write 'rabbit' in hieroglyphs, and a little more information on rabbits in Ancient Egypt. The large picture of a rabbit on the page is a reproduction of either an ancient carving or painting. After the alphabet there are several pages giving information about the history of hieroglyphs and how to write with them which would be of interest to older children as well. A stencil is also included, but you could write your own hieroglyphs by referring to the chart at the back of the book. This book is useful for introducing information on hierglyphs and Ancient Egypt to children.

A clear, exact and percipient M.v.d.R. document!
It is an excellent and appropriately illustrated paperback, in the format of an oeuvre complete.Eschewing flashy graphics, this book provides information about Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's built work & projects in a clearly laid out manner, with b&w photographs, plans, sections, elevations, perspective drawings and sketches - combined with concise & straightforward text.Instead of passionate theorising and rich intellectualising, this Phaidon 1999 paperback reprint emphasizes upon Mies van der Rohe's way of work and his essential canon of absolute spareness and strong contours... A truly indispensable book for every architect and scholar!

The Definitive Technical Analysis of Mies's Architecture
Peter Carter, who studied under Mies at IIT, wrote this book in the early 70s, shortly after Mies died. It's been long out of print, and I paid dearly to get a copy of the original version, shortly before this rerelease was announced. A lot has happened in architecture since it was written and yet Mies's best work still shines as brightly. For anyone with an interest in Mies in particular, or modern architecture in general, whether as a professional or layman, this is a must-have book.

At a time of colliding beliefs
Yes, you are right. This book is quite old, and when you read it, it does feel old. However, at the same time, you would realize that, after all these years, we, the human being, have the same problem. The text reads sometimes over wordy, and too idealistic. But, there is a very important message in this play from the German writer who wrote the first play that deals with actual people. One character asks Nathan; which religion is the best one? Nathan answers the question by telling him a story.
The answer is simple. So simple, I am amazed that I did not think of it. You might find it too simple and naive, but it sure is worth a read. And you will have to read it yourself to see what I mean. For that part alone, I give this play a 5-star.

Great book to get a good understanding of laser cooling.
Laser cooling and trapping techniques have given researchers new tools to explore the atom's dynamics and control. The book gives a good introduction to the forces that arise when an atom interacts with a light (laser) field, and puts a lot of emphasis on giving the reader an excellent idea of what's going on when atoms and photons interact.

Rather than giving all the details of the mathematical and quantum mechanics background that is needed to understand the subject the authors concentrate on giving a clearer picture of the real physics involved.

The book starts with a review of the quantum mechanics principles used to understand laser cooling and trapping, which serves as a good remainder for a person who already has a basic grasp of it.

Although all the mathematical analysis that shows how the formulas and mathematical expressions are derived is not done in the book, the presentation is sufficient to guide the readers interested in it do the work by themselves.

The book also has an excellent reference guide that an interested person can use to get all the mathematical and experimental details on the field.
