One of Euell Gibbons best, back in print
Review By Texas Gulf coast Herbalist, (hobby)
I own the original. And am thrilled to see it reprinted. Gibbons was the virtuoso of the herbal heyday, and his stories of nature, and his naturalist outlook, will enthrall you as much as the herbs you'll learn about. He is, and will allways remain, part of this foragers life, even though I never knew him personaly.

Unique reference in its subject area and well done.
I found this book to be quite unique in the way it covers its subject area. I know of no other book which seeks to treat in a botanical manner the more conspicuous and important woody plants of the Sonoran Desert biome. I discovered the existence of plants that I previously did not know about. Each species is covered very well, with notes on its appearance, distribution, ethnobotany, and ecology. Excellent half-tone black and white photographs. I can't recommend this book too highly if one is interested in learning more about the Sonoran Desert woody plants.

Pretty good only if you have time
Well I read the book and in it there are a lot of interesting facts and different ways to identify animals and plants. But the only downside is that it is not good for quick identification because you need to first find the page for your specific animal group then find out exactly which species it is.
Good Book, but only good if you have a lot of time
This book is a very good book. However, the only drawback is that in the field when you go camping or whereever you are trying to identify something you need to thumb through pages until the pages match your observations of the specimen then identify by pictures. Now everything gets identified, but it just takes a little longer to do then other field guides.
Hegel
Published in Paperback by Norma (1998)

An Interesting Take
The Great Philosopher's book on Hegel is interesting because it approaches him from a religious context. Normally one would expect a fifty page survey of Hegel to focus on the dialectic, his views on history or materialism or government. Instead, the book places its emphasis on his metaphysical philosophy. Different and intriguing, this book is well worth a read.

A nice little book
Gardening was a popular hobby for some of the Colonials, and they adapted native plants to their gardens, imported old favorites, and avidly traded new discoveries. The focus here is on Colonial Williamsburg and the Southern colonies rather than the Northeast.
This was an interesting little book. It would have been nice if it had been printed on better quality paper. Especially enjoyable for native and "old" plant enthusiasts.

I actually prefer this book to "Asparagus" because it is a bit more useful. For example, if you live nearly anywhere in middle America, violet leaves pop up in your lawn and garden. They're readily available and easy to find. And he gives uses for cucumber-scented borage, which you can actually plant from seeds. This herb now is a top seller for its healthful oil-rich seeds that contain linoleic acid. If borage doesn't grow in your fields, you can put it in your herb garden. He gives great ideas for violets, borage, mint and other herbs either readily found or available to grow.
Careful however; some of the wild herbs look alike; most dangerously hemlock and parsley, angelica and other members of the carrot family look alike with their feathery fronds. Best to take a course in plant identification at the local community college if you are collecting these.
