'Gargoyles' lets children know they are always loved.
I bought 'God Bless the Gargoyles' after reading a few quoted lines of the verse in another story I read, and I must say that this is one of the best children's books I have ever seen. The paintings were beautiful, and so was the poem. I'm a little old myself for children's books, but I find myself glancing over the book often; it appeals to all ages, for everyone has felt alone at one time or another. I also read it to my energetic four-year-old nephew, who loves 'Gargoyles,' the animated television show. The paintings, gentle rhymes, and subject matter held his attention the entire time I was reading, and it was a great way to let him know that he was loved. This book should be in every children's library in America.

God Bless the Gargoyles
As we sell cement gargoyles at the Amador Flower Farm, I have chosen this book for our school children that come to visit. I have probably read it to them 30 times and always have a hard time keeping my voice from cracking at the end. It's a great story and has beautiful pictures as well.

Now more than ever...
Today is the Friday following the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. For some reason, I went through my stacks of children's books this evening (I'm a teacher BTW), and I had to pull this one out. I've never been able to get through this story/poem without my voice cracking and tears in my eyes, but this evening - it was full scale balling! The words and images just seem to fit so well with the way we're all feeling.
"God bless the hearts and the souls who are grieving
for those who have left, and for those who are leaving.
God bless each perishing body and mind, God bless all creatures remaining behind.
God bless the dreamer whose dreams have awoken.
God bless the lovers whose hearts have been broken."

Doggone, What an un-smelly book!
This is one of Dav Pilkey's best! Adorible and witty, it's a book for all ages. My teacher, Mr. Murph, used to teach second grade, so he has tons of children's books. I had read The Hallo-wiener and thought it was so cute, so i gave this book a try. i'm glad that i did! It's all about an adorible puppy who stinks! Our, at least her breath does! One day, when something terrible is about to happen, Hally-Tosis uses her breath to stop the problem in its tracks. I love the punny name, Hally-tosis. A hit children's book!

Humorous and Witty
It is another Dav Pilkey winner! This book approaches the topic of bad breath with great wit. The puns help children to understanding cliches and improving their reading skills.
My four year old son loves the book! He thinks it is hysterical that this cute dog is named Hally Tosis-meaning bad breath. This was a good vocabulary building book for my son. The illustrations alone help children in understanding the book!

Hally Tosis makes perfect scents!!
This book caught my eye in a local bookstore and I bought it becase I thought and illustrations were cute. This was one of the smartest purchases I have ever made. My 2 1/2 year old loves this book! I read it to her almost every night and she has the book memorized to the point where she "reads" along with me. We love Hally Tosis and her bad breath!!

Boys love the toilet humor...even though we don't
The title gives it away folks. These silly stories are geared towards little boys and mine certainly can't get enough. My son is not real interested in reading but he LOVES these books. He reads them over and over agian, apparently finding humor in the toilet refrences. While not at all educational, who really cares if you can get them to read? As an added bonus to reading, there are also step by step drawing instructions so they can learn to draw their favorite "Underpants" character.

Some may see the title and think that these books are inappropriate. I have read through them and they seem fine to me but I suppose "fine" is subjective. I will say that my son's Catholic school library has them so they can't be that bad. My advice is to buy them, especially if it's for a boy who is less than enthusiastic about reading.

Horrible, sick, disgusting . . . My kids love 'em!
I first got these books for my son a couple years ago when I couldn't get him to read anything else. Well, he read these books and really enjoyed them. Now he will read other books, but these are still among his favorite. My daughter is much more interested in reading, but she loves Captain Underpants, too, and thinks it's great fun to read the books out loud to me. And they are pretty funny. Some of the humor is even aimed at adults! The Captain Underpants series even inspired my daughter to write a little book about Captain Cam the Mysterious Man for an assignment that, if I may brag, was much more advanced in terms of plot development and in the creation of a protagonist and an antagonist than what her other first grade peers came up with. True, these books encourage that potty humor that kids of this age seem to find so darned amusing, but they grow out of it. You can always offer other books in addition to these, and in the meantime, Captain Underpants gets them to read. 'Nuff said.

My son cannot get enough of Captain Underpants
My son started reading these books in the second grade. Now in the third grade, he's already reading bigger books like Harry Potter, but his favorites are still Captain Underpants. We had to go to the library and get them all and then at birthday time and Christmas, different relatives each bought a book so he now owns the entire set.

He gets me laughing with the jokes. He came up to me and said "Knock Knock". I of course answered with "Who's There?"... "I'm a Pile Up" he says.... when I answered "I'm a pile up who" (which sounds just like "I'm a pile of poo") he roared with laughter and went back to his Captain Underpants books to find more things to "get me" with.

He evens reads them to his 5 year old brother. They are actually getting along with each other as they sit on the floor and read together. I never thought stories about boy humor would make me so happy. And the language in these books is fairly tame. If you can handle the word "poop", you shouldn't mind these books at all.

Absolutely hilarious!
Oscar is a young dog with a problem. Being a "wiener-dog," he looks different from all of the other dogs in obedience school, and consequently the others like to make fun of him. His mother doesn't help matters when she calls him her "little Vienna sausage." And worse, when Halloween rolls around she expresses complete lack of understanding when she buys him his ultimate nightmare of a costume. However, this short-legged dog has a big heart, and when the chips are down the other dogs get to learn just what Oscar is made of!

This book is absolutely hilarious! The story is funny and educational. The text was not challenging for my eight-year-old son, but he is on the extreme range of the recommended level. However, he did love the story, and read it through three times in the first sitting! So, we both highly recommend this book.

Please be sure to watch the cats in this dog book, they come close to stealing the show!

Hot Dog! That was a great book!
I'm 12 years old and read this book to my little sister, age 7. We both loved this book and found it amusing and cute. It teaches little children that you should not make fun of other people. The other dogs make fun of Oscar because he is a Wiener dog. For Halloween, Oscar's mother makes him a hot dog costume. All the other dogs run ahead and leave him behind. But when trouble arises with the dogs, Osacr comes to the rescue. I really loved this book. The illistrations were fabulous.

Witty fun for playful souls
I don't have kids and I'm well beyond the target age group for this book. I do think sausage dogs are adorable, though, and thus received this as a Halloween present.

The illustrations are cute, the story is fun, and the puns are hilarious. The sausage dog is named, of course, Oscar; scrutinizing the family mailbox reveals their last name to be Meyer. When Oscar shows up in his Halloween costume (a hot dog on a bun), the book remarks that he looked "quite frank."

A few minutes of laughing and a smile on your face for six bucks? Can't beat that!

Dogzilla For Doglovers
This book is very enjoyful for kids. Do you know when Godzilla is
a dog, it gets very hair-raising. They're cute little animals in
an extremely goofy story. If you love dogs you'll probably be
begging for this book. So enter the world of Mr. David Pikley's
imaginative mind. Kids will love it.

Funny and clever
I first saw a copy of Dogzilla at a dog show in San Diego. It features a Cardigan Welsh Corgi on the cover. Show visitors snapped up the books in a hurry. I bought a copy and have been a Dav Pilkey fan ever since. Children LOVE this book as well as adults. Pilkey's idea of placing cut-out photos of real animal "actors" imposed on colorful, cartoonish paintings of Mousopolis really make the book appealing to little ones. His jokes are "wink-winks" above kid's heads aimed at the adult readers. Dogzilla is funny and spellbinding for little ones who want to read it again and again. If you love smart and imaginative picture books, this one is a "must have" for your collection.

Enjoyable for children and the adults who read to them.
Both Dogzilla and Kat Kong are extremely child-friendly and funny books. Every child I have ever given this book to has immediately asked to have it read to him or her. I myself stood in the aisle of the store and laughed out loud the first time I came across these books. The puns are everywhere, both visual and verbal, and the brave mice and adorable photos of dogzilla are hard to resist.

Captain Underpants
Captain Underpants And The Attacks Of The Talking Toilets is an awesome book, like the rest of Dave Pilkey's books are. It's about these two kids that get in trouble with all the teachers. Then something bad happens. In this case it is the talking toilets which want to take over the world!
I think it is awesome that Harold and George go and make comic books about Captain Underpants. Then, they photo copy the comic book with this kid's copy machine that makes pictures come alive. Read the book and find out the rest.

Totally outrageous and ha ha!
This book is the greatest book I have ever read because it is very amusing. When I heard that they made the toilets come to life I was laughing like crazy. I can't believe that George and Harold glued everyone to their seats and everyone was stuck. I liked the Pasty 2000 because all you have to do was put in a picture and the machine makes the picture come to life. I felt sorry when someone snapped their fingers and the mean old principal became Captain Underpants because Captain Underpants ruins everything. I give this book five stars because it is one of the greatest and funniest books ever. The best part was when George and Harold got to be principal for the day.

This Book Will Keep Your Son Awake At Night!!
My 8 year old son thinks that Dav Pilkey is the coolest guy and the best author in the world. Only problem is that he takes Pilkey's books to bed and can't stop reading! Attack of the Talking Toilets was completed (3 times, from cover to cover)only when he fell asleep at midnight with the book on his face. Caution to parents...my son found that some of his teachers "were not amused" by the humour; although it was a male Grade 2 teacher (thank you Mr. C)that introduced him to "Captain Underpants." If your son is a Pilkey fan too, or if you are a teacher who works with creative but distractable kids, visit the author's fantastic website (pilkey.com) which provides some poignent background info on the author and his stories.

Students love this book!
The Adventures of Captain Underpants by author Dav Pilkey is one of the silliest books this teacher has seen. Both girls and boys enjoy this book. The story is about two charactors named George and Harold. The two are best friends and enjoy stirring up trouble around their grade school. George and Harold also enjoy writing a comic they call 'Captian Underpants.' Mr. Krupp is the principal at the boy's school. One day George and Harold pull some pranks that get them into a lot of trouble with Mr. Krupp. Mr. Krupp punishes the boys by making them do extra work and behave. The boys do not like this so they devise a plan to hynotize Mr. Krupp with a hypnosis ring. To make a long story short, the two boys hynotize Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants and that's where the real adventures in the book begin. Readers will find themselves laughing outloud. Some of the funny things in the book include Dr. Diaper, flip-o-rama, and the pranks that George and Harold play. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a sense of humor.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF RELUCTANT READERS!!!!:
My son is a typical 8 year old boy. Passing gas is the hit of his life. Up with recess! Down with studies! How can you get through to a kid like this? Let alone get him to want to read?

ANSWER: Buy and read THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS!!!!! Just with that name and the cover picture alone, I knew he would be interested. But I never expected him to read it COVER TO COVER, BY HIMSELF, THREE TIMES, IN THE FIRST SITTING!!!!

I took this book with me to my son's gymnastics team practice to praise it up and down to the parents of the boys on his team (quite a few were reluctant readers too). Some parents raised an eyebrow, but as the book made the rounds, and even the toughest to please kid shouted, "GET ME THIS BOOK!!" all the parents were convinced.

My son is now an excellent reader who has moved on to great books, but he returns to Captain Underpants regularly, and I still hear him giggling to his friends, "HAVE I GOT A BOOK FOR YOU!!"

Great book!
George and Harold are pranksters in elementary school. They play lots of dirty tricks on people like changing signs to say gross things. Their biggest prank was hypnotizing their mean principal, Mr. Krupp, into funny looking Captain Underpants. Captain Underpants saved the moon from getting blown up. I like the book because it was very funny and it has a lot of action. I especially liked the flip-o-rama. I think that you should read The Adventures of Captain Underpants because it's a great book.

A great book for early male readers
At age 7, my son had mastered the basics of reading and refused to touch those step into reading books anymore because he thought they were boring. This book is great for readers who are in the transition of stepping up to chapter books. It is an easy, and interesting enough a book that my son can, and wants to, read it by himself in bed. While he loved Captain Underpants, he found many of the words and concepts (like "reverse psychology") a little difficult to grasp alone so that book needed adult help. Ricky Ricotta gave him confidence because he could easily read it ,and yet it wasn't a "baby" book. I also find that most early chapter books are written with the female reader in mind. This one isn't.

Great for First Chapter Book!
One again, thank you Dav! Ricky R is the "breakthrough" book for my reluctant reader 6 year old son. For the first time, he could not stop reading a book and was proud to have finished a chapter book. Attention all elementary school librarians who will not put "Captain Underpants" in libraries because of the toilet talk...give Ricky R a try and all the parents of little boys will be grateful! While this book does not have the same level of wit as Captain Underpants, it is really geared to a younger reader. My son thought it was a riot!

Robot to the rescue!
Thank you, Dav, for providing us with a new series of books to look forward to. When my children were little, I made it a habit to read all books prior to giving them to my children to read, to make sure they were appropriate. I do the same for my grandchildren now. I fell in love with Captain Underpants and the Dumb Bunnies, and now I have Ricky Ricotta and his giant robot to look forward to. My 5-year old grandchild, who will start school this September, loves this new book. He was absolutely fascinated with the illustrations, and has spent many hours copying the pictures of Ricky and the robot. He says that when he starts school if someone starts to bully him, he will remember how Ricky handled it and not be afraid. Keep up the good work, Mr. Pilkey and Mr. Ontiveros. Kids today need these kinds of heroes.

Captain Underpants
Captain Under pants was a great book. The main characters are Captain Underpants, Goege Beard and Harold Hutchins. Goerge and Harold are always getting in trouble writting comic boobks about the lunch ladies and switching the letters on the lunch menu. one day there was a spaceship on the roof of the school, but no one even noticed it sitting there. In the spaceship sat three green aliens who panned to take over the world. That day in class their teacher showed a science expirement with baking soda and vinegar. TYhat night they made fake recipes to the lunch ladies. They made the cupcakes the next day and it was a disaster and the ladies talked to the princible and quit because they cuold not stand Goege and Harold. The three aliens went to the princible to get hired and did. The next day they serve juice to the kids and they become evil zombie nerds. one of the alien snap thier fingers and HERE COMES UNDERPANTS. Then all the evil zombie nerds surround them. They climb up a ladder and into the spaceship. They get caught by the aliens. Wll they survive, read the book to find out.

Warning! This book is very exciting book
Captain Underpants And The Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafateria Ladies From Outer space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds) by Dav Pilkey is a fiction story with exciting characters that keeps you reading until the end of the book. The main idea of the involves George and Harold who tricked the Cafeteria ladies made them mad. So they stopped making lunch and went to other school. Then an evil cafeteria ladies started to make lunch and made the students into zombie nerds with their potion. But George, Harold, and Captain Underpants destroy the evil and helps everybody. You should read this book because it's very exciting.

Funny but ALMOST BANNED!
This comic is totally hillarious, but make sure to buy it before big brother says you can't! Check out the following:

'Captain Underpants' lives to see another day ORFORDVILLE, Wis. - Dav Pilkey's book, Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies From Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds), came under scrutiny after a student's parents asked that it be reviewed. The story's main characters ridicule and disobey their school principal, bury some dead lunch ladies by the school and write comic books riddled with misspellings, among other things. The Parkview School District committee voted 5-0 to keep the book in the school's library. The district's curriculum director said children probably would be best served if someone read or discussed the book with them to point out misspellings and intolerance issues.

Read it over and over!
I am not a vegatarian, yet I love this book. It by no means ruins the Thanksgiving tradition, it only gives a comical view as to how a turkey might feel about Thanksgiving. I teach kindergarten and my class wants me to read this story over and over!

A Family Tradition
I purchased this book many years ago at a school book fair when my kids were very young. They are grown now and to this day we read this book every year before the Thanksgiving Dinner. It is an entertaining and funny book that sets a mood of happiness at Thanksgiving. This is a book that will bring a smile to your face and a chuckle in your heart.

I'm thankful for this book!
I love Dav Pilkey's 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving! I teach a Montessori public school class of first, second and third graders, and I also happen to be a vegan. I want my students to know the truth about where food comes from, and this book helps teach them that turkey dinners don't grow on trees! I love the illustrations, from the chubby teacher and her peace-sign earrings, to the Starry Night background (a good bridge for studying the work and life of Van Gogh!) It has become a Thanksgiving tradition for me.
