Finding re-issues of important texts in the history of medicine is difficult in general. As the titles and topics become less well known, it becomes more difficult still. With this publication of the text of "The Boke of Chyldren", we have been given anew the first English pediatrics text. While medicine has much changed since 1544, many of life's simpler maladies have not, and it is interesting to read of how they were interpreted and treated in the mid-sixteenth century in England. Rick Bowers has done a commendable job of bringing us the text along with a succinct and manageable introduction. For anyone with an interest in the history of medicine, and pediatrics in particular, I would highly recommend this work.
