An In-Depth Look Into A&M Records
These two books are an impressive undertaking in itself. Inside you'll find the listing of every record ever made and distributed by A&M Records, the label created by trumpeter Herb Alpert and business partner Jerry Moss. A&M became the largest independent label, as well as a reputation of being the class of all record companies. The artist roster itself is most impressive. This book details every recording, from matrix number, formats, year of release, catalog number, etc. It lists albums, singles, CDs, tapes and video releases. It also notes TV appearances of A&M artists, bibliographies and birthdates. Also included are the many affiliated labels that were distributed through A&M (CTI, Horizon, Ode, just to name a few). Also listed are songs from the main publishing arm of A&M - Almo/Irving Music. About the only thing you won't find in here is what the artists eat for breakfast! This is an astonishing piece of work, and should be a must for fans of A&M Records. After going through these books I did find myself frustrated at one thing - I thought I had all that was available of artists such as Herb Alpert, but reading these books makes me realize I still have some searching to do, especially going through the second volume, which lists foreign releases of A&M artists. It's easy to lose yourself in this collection, and it brings back wonderful memories of artists who are no longer with us.
