Dr. Covell has done a marvelous job with this field guide. His wonderful descriptions and pictures of moths make it easy for the average Joe to identify moths.

A wonderfully honest and human account of pioneer life
One of the most accessable, yet honest histories I've read. Brooks was a well-respected historian in academic circles, yet with her straightforward style instantly transports the lay reader into the early Mormon frontier.

A Hard Life -- Emma Lee
One cannot visit Lee's Ferry without becoming curious about Emma Lee, John D. Lee's courageous and lonely wife, who lived alone at the Ferry while her husband was off fraternizing with Mormon bishops and ending up taking the fall for church leaders in the Mountain Meadow Massacre. Reading her life story, including giving birth alone in the rude cabin on the bank of the Colorado River, her dealings with Lee's other wives, and her steadfast and unswering loyalty to her husband, is a sobering look at the demands of a pioneer, and a Mormon wife.

Solid and Helpfull
I recommend this book.

This book does the student, parent or councilor the great service of providing a north American list of Colleges that have "comprehensive" or special services" for students with learning disabilities. This is a tremendous help and comes as a revelation to those who are just starting the college selection process.

Acknowledging the value of the list I would like a couple of changes: 1) I would prefer that the list be a single list. That is I would prefer that in the front of the book there was a table that listed "comprehensive" and "special services" programs separately but that the body of the book be made up of one list of entries. Each entry could be marked clearly as to whether the school had "comprehensive" or "special services" programs. The reason for this is that the process of cross referencing the school profiles against a second list would be quicker and less awkward. This issue brings me to my second suggestion. 2) I used "Rugg's recommendations on the Colleges" to pick out schools which were strong in the desired major. It would be nice if a list of this kind could be incorporated into each entry. Most schools are stronger on certain subjects than others and it is certainly helpful for an ADD/LD student to know which subjects are regarded as that schools strengths

not helpful
I guess I ordered this book thinking it would help with a pretty normal ADD kid; instead it focuses on kids who are severely disabled, is very dry reading, and not helpful unless you have a child with a true disability.

Good, but too many colleges are not included; none are rated
This is one of very few large directories available which deal with LD programs/services for college students. However, it combines 2-year and 4-year colleges so the number of colleges included is misleading. I wanted to see more about 4-year colleges. Additionally, there were no HBCUs included at all. Finally, I would have appreciated some kind of rating of "quality."

Practical Guidance for LD College Applicants
Lists over 1,000 2 and 4 year colleges that welcome students with learning disabilities. Includes schools that offer services and comprehensive programs. CD-ROM and quick-reference chart provided. Entries for colleges include student support services, number of students with LD and/or ADD, staff information, founding date of LD services, and number of staff members. Special services such as academic advising, counseling services, remediaiton of basic skills, subject area tutoring, special courses, auxilliary aids, and services are described. For colleges with comprehensive programs, the book lists special fees and details of the program. The book states if services are available to graduate students.
