Earth at Risk: An Environmental Dialogue Between Religion and Science

Authors: Donald B. Conroy and Rodney Lawrence Petersen
Amazon base price: $60.00

At Risk
This is an excellent introduction to the concerns of religion and ecology. The volume has leading authors survey topics of religion and science, mutli-religious perspectives on the topic, religion and ethics, and religion and educational policy respecting the topic. The book is ideal for schools and discussion groups.

An important question for religion
This book, with chapters from a wide variety of scholars of religion, ecology, and science, is a great introduction to the interaction between ecology and faith. This book will be a rewarding read for anyone interested in how religion must cope with the environmental crisis, as well as those who (wrongly) think that religion has nothing to say about ecology.

Spectral Boy: Poems (Wesleyan Poetry Program Ser)

a sentimental journey into the soul of a poet
The Spectral Boy is a beautiful collection of poems that I cannot forget. I still have my autographed copy from years ago when I had Don Petersen as an English instructor at SUNY Oneonta. I have read these poems so often and used them in my own English class with my students. The response to poetry is a very personal one, a visceral response. These poems deserve to be read thoroughly. You will find these voyages into the past to be stirring, others to be heartbreakingly beautiful recollections of experiences that are recalled but are beyond recall.

A must for all would-be monkey wrenchers
This collection from Edward Abbey's journals pulls no punches. David Peterson should be praised for resisting the urge to censor Abbey's alternately brilliant, paranoid, suicidal, cynical, angry, loving, and often quotable journals. The man presented here is the real Abbey--defender of the American West, enemy of what he called the "techno-industrial state"--not an idealized version. It's a fascinating book if you've read some of his other works, to see another stage in the development of his novels and essays. This is a writer for whom the words flow freely, even effortlessly, onto the page. This book accomplishes, I think, what Abbey said was the reason he decided to write: "to entertain my friends and family, and to exasperate my enemies." Certainly Abbey had plenty of enemies, and plenty of admirers as well. I recommend these journals for anyone who loves Edward Abbey, but for the uninitiated, I would recommend "Desert Solitaire" (a classic in modern American literature) or "The Monkey Wrench Gang" (probably his best-known book).

His Greatest Book
This book is a must-read for all fans of Edward Abbey. Throughout his life, Abbey strove to write that one "great" book. He may have died believing that he had not accomplished that task. However, as it turns out, his life story is, in fact, his greatest "book".

This book is like a Bible for me
This book hooked me into Edward Abbey. It is uncensored and honest. It is also amazingly wise and funny. I read it all the time.

Excellent hands-on guide for small business Y2K readiness
The Y2K Workbook for Small Business is an easy to understand, step by step guide for preparing small businesses for Y2K compliance. It creates an awareness of the issues and offers a straight forward plan to follow. It is important for small businesses to understand that Y2K does not just affect "computers",but rather it can impact the entire bottom line. Y2K preparedness requires an overall business plan and the workbook will be an Indispensable tool for owners and employees. It also contains a disc with model letters to send to vendors, suppliers and customers. Highly recommended.

Excellent, step by step guide for small businesses
This is an excellent, step by step workbook for small businesses. It is written from the small business person's perspective and is easy to understand--jargon free. It also has several letter templates for writing customers and vendors. This is an excellent tool for small businesses that need to understand the implications of Y2K for their businesses. One of the key points this workbook undescores, is that being prepared for Y2K doesn't just require getting your computer bugs worked out, but it calls for a well thought-out, overall business plan. The challenge is creating awareness and a sense of urgency. As this review is being written, the year 1999 is less than two months aways. Y2K will be here too soon. A solid business plan is required--this isn't day light savings time, where we just set our clock's up one hour. Small businesses must get ready now and this handbook can be a valuable asset.

Guidelines for Chiropractic Quality Assurance and Practice Parameters: Proceedings of the Mercy Center Consensus Conference
Published in Paperback by Jones & Bartlett Pub (1993)
Authors: Mercy Center Consensus Conference, David Chapman-Smith, Donald M. Petersen, and Scott Haldeman
Amazon base price: $58.95
Used price: $34.95
Average review score:

OUTDATED AND CONSENSUS ONLY
This is merely a consensus of a limited number of people, many of whom do not practice and others with apparent private agendas. One of the supposed contributors was deceased long before it was even published. Makes me wonder how they even published it.... Pretty much a waste of time and paper.

This text misrepresents its worth, full of legal holes.
This small group of 'experts' on chiropractic completely misrepresented the facts involved. They set out with an obvious purpose and this book is their attempt at a professiopnal takeover. A new guidelines book has recently been published and has been approved by the National Guideline Clearinghouse (a branch of US gov't). If this subject interests you, get the other one and save yourself some money.

Standard of the Profession
The Mercy Center Guidelines reflect the highest standard of care in the chiropractic profession.
