An Excellent Resource That Does Not Bore You To Tears
When I ordered the Encyclopedia, I resigned myself to slugging through mountains of information and end up "What did that say again?"

Well, I am pleased to say that there was the mountain of information and more often than not I knew what it was saying. The definitions in were to the point, crisp and relevant to the times. Rev. P. Stravinskas had the insight to include information an ordinary Catholic needed at 7PM Sunday in a mad rush to complete an assignment.

Where the encyclopedia lost me were in some definitions that were necessarily lengthy. Obviously, some white space could have saved me time in re-reading the whole passage. But, with the value of the information included, I believe the Encyclopedia is an excellent resource for those of us who are not scholars in the catechism of the Catholic Church.

A resource for those of us who are not theologians!
Those who know Fr. Stravinskas know that he likes to keep things short and to the point, so that the average person can understand what he's teaching without getting lost in detail. On another note, Our Sunday Visitor has a reputation for printing only the best quality of Catholic books. This collaboration brings out the best traits of both.

It is faithful to the Church's basic teaching since the Second Vatican Council, it fits into one large volume using a print size that will not strain your eyes, it is wonderfully organized to cover a wide variety of topics relevant to the Catholic faith, and its entries are informative while being written at a level the average Catholic can understand.

For these reasons, this is simply one of the best modern Catholic Encyclopedias on the market. Every Catholic family and college student who is interested in their faith should own one.

Wonderful, Orthodox, Trustworthy
If you want to know what the Catholic Church teaches this is a great reference book. Father Stravinskas teaches what the Church teaches, and not just his own personal opinion. I'd recommend anything he wrote. It's wonderful to know you won't be misled. Nice book for dipping into, too!

A most interesting take on a Wampanoag tradition.
As a window into the life of a Native American tribe that has lived on Cape Cod since long before the Mayflower landed in Plymouth, this book stretches well beyond the Clambake. Beautifully told and photographed, it is the story of how Steven, a Wampanoag Indian boy, is instructed in the tradition of clambaking from his grandfather, Russell Peters. In the process, he learns a great deal about his people, as does the reader.

Fantastic representation of the People of the First light
Wampanoag Indians are the original tribe that met the pilgrims and white settlers and it is about time that someone stepped up to the plate and told the truth. A fantastic book about the true Native Americans that are alive and strong today that white america will never embrace and accept the fact that they are beautiful people with a rich culture and heritage

A few Comments
I would have given the books higher marks, the first 8 chapters actually do help, and provide alot of information about Java Bean development, with helpful examples.

However after chapter 8, it almost seems as if there is a differnet author, the examples do not match the screen shots, the screen shots are haphazard and incomplete, and there are missing steps.

Even the included examples do not work (after chapter 8)

So, save your money..dont buy the book

Good to learn about Visual Programming but little else.
This is a so-so book, very good for learning Visual Programming and GUIs with VAJ but little else. I felt cheated when I found that the database db2 provided in the CD did not work because it had expired even before I ran it the first time! In the later chapters on database access, we need a database so I had to use Access instead with a lot of trial and errors. Bad. I doubt if a beginner could do that. I hope the authors are careful about this. I bought this book solely for my VAJ certification exam, I doubt if its good enough for this though they say it is, in the Introduction.

Very good book to get started on Visual Age for Java
This is an excellent book to get started for somebody who has no previous experience with Visual Age for Java. Visual Age for Java is a powerful and very professional tool, offering many capabilities, well suited for ambitious projects, but also a complex tool to learn. Dale R. Nilsson makes it easy to get started.

The author lets you build a simple calculator, explainig each step in great detail. A large number of screen shots provide assurance to the reader that he is not taking a wrong turn. By the time you have worked yourself through this, you are ready to tackle complex tasks.

Well suited for self study. Highly recommended for anybody who wants to get started on Visual Age.

Excellent reference for certification and intro to VAJ
I just passed my VisualAge for Java 2.0 Certification exam, and I used this book extensively to prepare. The examples are simple yet complex enough to teach......excellent book.

Great Book to Learn VisualAge for Java
This book is great for someone who already knows Java, but needs to learn VA quickly. I will be joining a project that uses VA so I need to jump from a text editor to an IDE. This book shows you how to move around easily in VisualAge. It gives tips and tricks of the tool and gives good examples to clarify the text. If you want to learn the Java language, this book is not for you. I didn't give 5 stars because I would have liked more information on advanced features of the tool for servlets and EJB's. However, with the start-up I got from this book, I can learn that on my own.

Great Book on VisualAge
This is a great book for learning how to use VisualAge for Java. There are many hints and tips on how to develop java programs and use the IDE.
