A SUPER kids book
We received this book as a gift and have since bought the whole series for ourselves and other friends. A pop-up book that is full of laughs for young children.

Sometimes it's just good to be silly
My daughter wanted this for her birthday. It's a pop-up book that we simply have fun reading together. I think it's good in that it teaches your child that reading is enjoyable.

Fun for all ages
I have a daycare, which ranges from 1 year olds to 6 year olds, and they cannot get enough of this book. They beg me to read it daily. This book is fun for all ages, and the kids are surprised and excited every time we read it. We are planning on getting more of these books.

Top of the line!
This is where it all started for me in 1978. Comprehensive descriptions and basic measurements, but all kites built from this book have flown very well. This cannot be said about the many more recent books on kites. Because of the simplicity of the instructions, this book is most suitable for people with some kite building experience.

Oh boy! The perfect kite book for adults!
Wow, this book is really neat. It starts out with a fascinating history of kites and winds up with actual kite plans. The history section includes lots of interesting facts I've never heard before. It begins with the ancient origins but includes the 19th and early 20th century inventors (Cody, Bell, etc.) in enough detail to understand what they were really doing. The history section winds up with the inventors of the hang glider (1948) and parafoil (60's). Lots of rare photos and drawing are used to illustrate their work.

After that there are sections on kite flying, kite construction, materials, plans, etc. The text here is terse and to the point, with sufficient detail and scaling information to build the kites whose plans are included (or so it appears, I didn't try to build one). A wide variety of kite plans are included, from traditional designs to unique ones; with enough airflow theory thrown in here and there to make you think you could design your own.

It's lavishly illustrated, but the small format prevents this from being a "coffee table" book. I can't recommend this book highly enough for adults or inventive teens.

Great book for both beginner and seasoned enthusiast!
I am basing this review on an edition of this book (published by Penguin and previously called the Penguin Book of Kites) which I have owned for more than twenty years.

This is a wonderful book for both the beginning kite flyer/maker and for those with more experience. It starts with the basics: types of kites, how to launch and fly them (like why you SHOULDN'T run with a kite to launch it), and continues on to materials, methods and many plans for kites. From your basic diamond-shaped kite to deltas to dragons (long-tailed) to box kites to fighting kites to stunt kites to multi-celled "snowflake" and parafoil kites, it has enough to keep you busy for many years.

In a word, this book is COMPREHENSIVE, and if you only own one kite book (and I own many) this is an excellent choice. My old edition is falling apart at the seams from overuse, and I am truly thankful that this book has finally been re-issued (after 24 years). I'm getting a new one right away!

Sam's snack Rocks!
I bought this book at a used book store and it's so great! I LOVE All of the Sam books. They're suposed to be for little kids, but I love 'em anyway! I love this one's pop-ups, the clever rhymes, and the nasty stuff Samantha puts in Sam's food. Like sand in the salt shaker, tar in the those little vanila creme sandwhiches, and jellyfish in the apple pie. Plus Sam has a little suprise for Samantha. ;-)

Lot's of fun!
My 3 year old loves this book, and so does the whole family. The pop-ups are fantastic, the story distasteful enough to keep a kid riveted, but not offensive, and I am suprised it hasn't worn out from all the readings it gets.

A lot of fun!
The Sensational Samburger offers an opportunity to sit with your youngster and watch Sam build his "Samburger". Each page is fun to turn, and the pop-up images are definately an eyefull! I highly recommend this book to any parent who wants a moment of contact with your child in a fun, and definately different way.

This is a definite kid pleaser!
What can I say? I order this as a gift for every kid I know between the ages of 4 and 8 and it gets tons of applause every time. The verse is catchy and very funny (even to adults!). It's fun for the kids to think of the words that match the rhymes and they love the "pop out" bugs. It is sure to get squeals of delight. The pictures and paper are very high quality and it is a one-of-a-kind book for every child's collection.

Book is Thrashed but is STILL His Favorite!
I bought this book ... before my son was born because it was sooo engaging even for me at 29 years.

The flaps and pull-tabs are engineered uniquely. They are all different. This is a bright, captivating book for my son and for me, too. It is simple reading and I really appreciate that the tabs have the "answer" word on them. Some of the tabs do multiple tasks and the whole exsperience is worthwhile to repeat over and over again without boredom.

I gave it to him at 12 months because he saw that goofy cat on the front cover and I wanted to see what he'd do with the book.

Was he ready for a pull-the-tab book? NO! He ripped the tounge clean out the second or third time we played with it. Then he ripped the nose and the eyes and eventually the entire face was gone! And many of the tabs inside no longer work and many of the flaps have been ripped off.

However, my son still grabs this book first at 19 months old when we go to bed or have a little reading time or when we are going for a drive. The four out of 13-or-so flaps that do work are now used properly by my son and the pages that have been ripped and no longer look like anything are still enjoyable to him for some reason. It is STILL his Favorite Book.

Infact I'm here right now buying another one to surprise him for Christmas. While I've been on this page with the book cover visible to him on the screen he has been squealing and clapping and saying "More! Thankyou!" Interpretation: "Give me more"

I highly recommend this for you little one. Just start out with [an inexpensive] pull-the-tab book first so that you won't have to replace this Good one...

The facts of life
This is a wonderful book that is used as a teaching tool. It is a beautifully illustrated 3-d book on the facts of life. One can use this book to explain to their children about the facts of life...pregnancy and childbirth. Practioners can use this book to explain to their patients about pregnancy/fetal development and child birth. This book is for everyone. A great book to have on your bookshelf. Definitely worth the money!

Sam's Sandwich

A funny book
I remember this book from when I was little and liked the details of how Sam tricked his sister with the sandwich. I once wrote in all the answers to the words(giving away all the answers) that before I gave the book away I had to cross the written-in answers out.
That story was long, but I used to have it all memorized.

Gross and Funny.........
Sam's makes his sister a special sandwich by slipping in little surprises such as snails and caterpillars. The book is shaped like a sandwich and each page is an ingredient (lettuce, tomatoes, eggs....) which open with flaps to show the surprise. My first graders think this book is hilarious and want me to read it practically on a daily basis.

Sam's Sandwich
This book is an absolute delight to children. They scream with laughter even at the 100th reading.
