Really good
This book is just as good as the first two(The sky is falling and Looking at the moon). Kit Pearson sets just the right moods for them. Like when Norah was sad when a certain part happened and Gavin was so confused. I like the way on how she focused on Gavin instead of Norah. Gavin is much more imaginative, shy and cowardy than Norah ever was. I'd give this book 10/5 stars because it was so well wrought. A very satisfying end to a great series!

best book ever
I recently read the "Guests of War" trilogy which has all the books("The sky is falling","Looking at the moon" and "The lights go on again" all of which are awesome incredible super duper books). My personal favorite was this one. I believe that these books are 15 times better than Harry Potter wich is awesome too. I would enjoy it if Kit Pearson would write one or two more books. One about the lights go on again but in Norahs perspective and also what happens when they grow up, like if Gavin moves to Canada, what happens between Gavin and Eleanor, if John and Norah get married, what happens when Andrew tells them that he's going to take acting, and whether the cousins(Janet, Flo and Clare)keep in touch with Norah. If I were Roger Ebert I would give it 1000 thumbs up way up. I would recomend it to anyone and evryone. They should read it no matter what! Thank you

Another well written book by Kit pearson
The Lights Go On Again By Kit Pearson was on of the most heart touching books I've ever read. It was a very realistic but sad way to end Norah and Gavin's story.

This book is a 5 star rating because it is the BEST!
this book is suitable to readers 12-16 as it is so down to earth and you can really feel Norahs feeling towards her cousin! I love the way her Aunts nag her and tell her about the pains fo growing up. I reacomend this to 12-16 year olds because i feel you need to be near her age

Awesome
Looking At The Moon Is a wonderful tale of a young girl going throug hard times in her life. Norah a young war guest is spending the summer at her guardians summer house. There she learns many things about herself and about the war. She also falls in love for the first time, and finds out how hard it is to be in love. This is a WONDERFUL book. Also you should read the first on The Sky Is Falling, and the last on The Lights Go On. It is a WONDERFUL Triology

What is reality?
I recently read this novel to my Grade 4 class, and it turned out to be one of their all-time favourites. The kids hated when I stopped reading each day. The prologue begins with a ghost, Cicely, who can't yet leave this world. The main character, however, is Theo, an unhappy girl with a single mother who acts like a teen-ager, makes Theo dance on the streets of Vancouver for money, and is more interested in her new boyfriend than in Theo. Suddenly, while on a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria to live with her aunt, Theo finds herself in a new family, the Kaldors -- a perfect, wonderful family with 4 kids, and they completely accept her as one of them. A dream? But it goes on and on for months! Then slowly it begins to fade, and she is back on the ferry, and begins another new life with her aunt. She finally meets with the ghost, Cicely, with whom the book begins, and begins to understand what has been happening, and what Cicely wants from her.

Kit Pearson has woven a wonderful mix of reality and fantasy. It's a reality so real it helps kids understand poverty and disadvantaged children. And it's a fantasy so delightfully enticing you know it must be somewhere just under the surface of real life, if you look hard enough in the right places. This book is a rare gem, highly engaging for both children and adults. I'd highly recommend reading it to classes of Grade 4-6 students. Some very rich discussions will be sparked by it. It's a fairly challenging read for individuals, although better readers love it. All my students were entranced by it as a read-aloud.

Beautiful
This book is somewhere between realistic fiction and fantasy. Though it deals with very real issues, it also deals with reality, and whether consciousness is a dream, and dreams are reality, and whether the two are so dependent upon one another that it is impossible to be only one. That we are all Awake and Dreaming.
The person at the center of the story is Theo, who is being raised by a single mother who is much like a child herself. Clean clothes and good food are not things Theo knows much about.
The setting is British Columbia, Canada, not an often written about place, and the book itself is just beautiful.

I cried about 5 times!!!!!
This book is my favourite! I love the feeling of a story so touching it makes you cry, and this book did it. The story is highly impossible, but a wonderful author makes you believe. Theo's world changes so much, and she learns to love and get it in return. Theo lives with her mother in a wet, drafty, low-rent apartment, and her cigarette addicted mother hogs all of her earned money for her habit. The kids at school tease her for being poor, and the other poor kids try to be her friend but she is uninterested. Instead she retreats into the school library. She ocasionally tries to steal, and her mother makes her dance on the streets to earn money. Her mother is hardly ever home, and Theo is left alone at home, night after night. When her mother is home she hits her. Her mother meets someone and goes to live with him, sending Theo to her aunt's house, which changes her life forever. I Love This Book!:)

The Best Book Ever
I just plain loved this book. It is the story of ten year old Norah and her brother Gavin. It is the middle of World War Two, and Norah's parents fear a German Invasion is going to happen soon. Reluctantly, Norah packs her bags, leaves most of her friends behind, and sets sail for Canada. The second half of the book gives an honest account of trying to fit into a new country and culture, and dealing with the worst homesickness ever. My reccomendation is read it and buy it!

the sky is falling was a very well written book
the sky is falling was a well written book about a girl named Norah and her brother Gavin who are sent to live in canada during world war 2. the family they live with only wanted a boy but took the two of them anyway. Norah always felt some discomfort knowing she wasn't really wanted there yet she accepted it. it is the first of a trilogy and is probably the best of the trilogy.

The BEST BOOK to tell children about war guests
I love this book.
I didn't really like the book about wars before I read this book.
I think almost every children will like it.
Norah, ten-year-old girl who is two years younger than me, is brave unlike me.
I liked the part when she met Bernard and Paige because she looked so pathetic.
That part remind me when I first came to Canada.
That's why I really like this book, I guess.
I felt like reading a book that is 80% about me.
well, I recomand this book to EVERYONE!!

-I like all books of Kit Pearson's.
To tell the truth, I have six books of her's in my house.

Ashdown Academy
This is a book about life in boarding school. Elizabeth Norah Chapman is going to Ashdown Academy, a boarding school where boys are forbidden, for the school year. As soon as Eliza meets Helen, a sneaky, mischievous girl, the story takes off. Before I read this book, I thought boarding schools were only for boarders. When I read "The Daring Game", I thought, "What? You can go to a boarding school without boarding? That's outrageous!" But this book was so good, it only took me three days to finish. I definitely recommend this book for girls interested in boarding school.

Extreamely Well Written
Theis book was so good. It's about a girl named Eliza who goes away to boarding school for a year and becomes friends with a mischeviouse, unpredictable girl in her dorm. And it is they who start the daring game. This book was so good. I think you should read it.

A wonderful book
"At first Eliza is happy with her new life at boarding school, settling into the Yellow Dorm, making new friends, learning the rituals of school life and doing well in her classes. But a bond begins to develop Eliza and Helen, a mischievous, unpopular girl who defies authority, plays practical jokes and doesn't seem to care what others think of her. It is Helen who starts the daring game among the five girls in the Yellow Dorm..." The Daring game is a truly wonderful book that is "tender, often funny, sometimes blessedly pensive and always perceptive". So do yourself a favour and read it.

A handful of time is about a girl named Patricia who has to go to her aunt's cabin for the summer. When she gets there she doesn't like her cousins and her cousins don't like her.So one afternoon she comes across a cabin. She goes in there and she finds a watch under her floor boards and starts playing with it.Her aunt says that she needs to know how to row a canoe so her couisin Kelly teaches her.She doesn't want to learn , and she is also not doing to well.Patricia is a girl who hides in her own world. In this book you will learn alot and Patricia achieves alot. When you read this book you will see if she comes out of her own world, learns how to row a canoe and find out if she will like her cousins. So be sure to read this book to find out what happens to Patricia.

One of the best!
A Handful of Time was one of the most interesting, awesome books I have ever read by the best author! Patricia finds a old watch and goes back to the time when her mother was a kid. Extremly good.

BEST BOOK EVER!
You will never look at an old watch the same way again. Read this book: this author is amazing, a page turner and characters you will care about. Well done (again) Kit Pearson!

Avoid this -- outdated, expired
The trial version of C++ Builder included on the disk EXPIRED AT THE END OF 1997. The accompanying book is on C, not C++, and there is nothing there remotely like an introductory manual for the Borland C++ programming environment, although the buyer would have a reasonable expectation that a "Starter Kit" would in fact provide someplace to START. The C++ 5.02 portion (which does not produce standalone files -- as the box specifies, so THAT is not a beef here) also seemed unable to run the sample programs I tested, ones included with the product. The registration procedure shows its antiquity because it wants to dial up a registration site, not register via the Web. The C++ Builder portion would register via the Web except that the product has expired. And even then, I am not sure the URL was valid.

No, this is useless. I had sort of hoped for something that would be a useful re-introduction to C++ programming and the Borland environment. No dice. OLD, old, old version, and a pretty sad introduction for novices who stumble across it. I would give it zero stars, but the lowest option is 1.

Works very well
This is the only compiler I could find, and it basically saved my interest in C++. I have been using it for a few weeks, and it is a great working program. BUT, the book I am using, that I bought separate, Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days, has a lot of non-working programs, because my compiler is different. Surprisingly, I managed to fix all the programs that the compiler couldn't translate. That's a miracle (at least it will tell me what the problem is, sometimes it doesn't make sense though). I find this program very useful, overall, I just wish everything worked with success. I suggest this program as a beginners item, and it is really worth the money, and my grandparents offered to give me this expensive one, which was $..., Visual C++.net, and 1, it won't work on my computer, and 2, it has way, way more than what I need. But this one is cheap, useful, and has a book included. I would also suggest the book I have, Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days. That is a very educational book. I suggest you buy this. I would want to give it 4 1/2 stars, but you can't. It is a very good program.
