Cute & Colorful
Isn't it true that every time you go on vacation, you forget something? As a child, it did seem I would also remember everything except my pajamas. That is what happens to a giggly little girl who goes to her Grandpa's house for a sleepover.

"First some Apples we can share with Bunny and my fuzzy Bear. They cry whenever I'm not home. I couldn't leave them all alone."

The A in Apples and B in Bunny are colorful letters. In fact, this book is an alphabet type story. There is also a cute cat that makes an appearance. Doing naughty things like walking away with puzzle pieces.

Of course when it is time for bed, she starts to be a silly head and wants to hide under the bed or do headstands. By the time she starts looking for her pj's it is late and she is yawning. The last page ends with the little girl putting on her Grandpa's big pj's and she says: "Yours fit me, Grandpa! I love you."

Sweet!

The true joy of grandparenthood
This book captures the pure love a child feels for her grandfather in wanting to share all her enthusiasm for life in one night at a sleepover with this special man. The grandfather is a good sport and trys to play along with all her little games that she had planned for the sleepover. He trys to humor her, but at the same time he thoroughly enjoys this wonderful little person sporting a zest for life. There aren't enough hours in the day for this child. There is a heartwarming ending with bonding memories. A wonderful book!

A great Father's day gift for a new Grandfather!
What an excellent book to give to a new grandfather. Well illustrated, colorful about the warm relationship of a grandfather and his granddaughter. The alphabetical items she packs leads one into a great adventure for an evening with grandpa.

This book is a treasure!
As a parent and teacher of young girls, I found this book to be an inspiration. My 8 year old daughter enjoyed all of the poems and reading them together sparked several discussions about some of the heroines, especially the lesser known women. The illustrations are beautiful. What a great gift for a young girl!

All by Herself: 14 Girls Who Made a Difference
Story of 14 young women, who are heros, some famous, some not. Poems are wonderful, and explain just why each girl is a hero. Illustrations are beautiful and in color. This is an excellent biography book and I would recommend it for students from the 4th grade up, and to the teachers and parents, alike.

Wish my girls had this inspiration when they were children!
The best book I have ever read for making the link between wonderful acts of imagination and/or courage in childhood and the larger than life heros these women became. This has got to be a christmas or birthday book for reading to or by girls from 5 to 10.

Wiggle those toes....
The author loves to go barefoot and as the mother of four grown children, she has tied more shoes than she can count. She is the author of several picture books including The Seasons Sewn: A Year in patchwork, which won the Carl Sandburg Award for Children's Literature. Nadine illustrates with such flair and will make you smile...even though she would rather have all the shoes in this book and not go barefoot.

A little girl in pink pajamas awakens with the words: "Good morning, toes, Good morning, feet, tangled up between my sheets." She then puts on bunny slippers and bounces around to the closet door. The puppy dog in the story actually brings her the slippers.

The next page will make every little girl wish she had a closet filled with all these pretty shoes. Red high heels with bows, alligator sock shoes, fluffy orange slippers, boots and yellow sandals decorated with fruit. After clomping down the stairs in her polka dot red
high heels, she changes into something a bit more practical. Then the real fun starts.

She leaps and skips and goes down a slide, swings and points her toes up high, jumps across a creek and then heads home for lunch. While her baby brother naps, she walks quietly in her red boots and heads outside to shuffle along in leaves.

After taking off her shoes, she squishes her toes into muddy ooze and then dances in a puddle and cleans her feet off. She then takes a big bubble bath, dries her feet and snuggles between her sheets.

Completely Adorable and perfect for bedtime reading.

2 year old's favorite book....Mom likes it too!
Really a delightful story that journals a day in life of a girl who from her feets' perspective. The illustrations are bright and interesting. My two year old just loves the book.

Delightful rhythmic text and vibrant illustrations
Really enjoy this book, especially for reading aloud to a group of children. I particularly like the rhyming and very "active" vocabulary. Colorful and charming pictures complement the text very well.

My third grade students thoroughly enjoyed the book!
As an elementary school teacher, I incorporate the whole language philosophy into my classroom. I spent an entire month linking the curriculum of my school district to Ms. Ann Whitford Paul's literature. My students learned about math, science, social studies and reading using "Quilts" as our theme. We created individual quilt squares to represent each of my 33 students and I lovingly sewed them together. Quality literature is at the core of my teaching. Eight Hands Round demonstrated such quality and brought joy to my classroom.

The Seasons Sewn
This is an unusually handsome children's book with exquisite illustrations depicting life in the nineteenth century throughout the four seasons.

The author does a very good job in describing the trials, traditions and events of this time period while explaining the origins of 24 different quilt block patterns. It is a beautiful and informative book.

I would have to disagree with the rating of this book at a reading level of ages 4-8. It would indeed be a precocious 4 year old that would be able to sit and listen to this book much less read it themselves. It does not have a "story book" kind of story line but is full of interesting information and stunning illustrations for 2nd through 4th graders.
