An excellent tool for introspection and evaluation!
I've been slowly working my way through the chapters of this powerful yet easy to read book for a few weeks now. This expository look at 1 Corinthians 13 has given me significant insight into what "Love Is..." and what that means to me in regards to my relationship with God, with my future spouse, and with my family and friends. The book's simple layout, taking the chapter phrase-by-phrase, makes studying and meditating on the different aspects of this scripture easier than using the text alone. It makes a wonderful supplementary tool.

We enjoyed every word of this book!
My girly and I are planning on getting married soon. We have been reading this every day and calling each other every night and talking about the chapter we had read. We have agreed to always keep this book in view in our home so if we ever have times where we are not feeling the love we do now we will take to reading this book again. This is a great book for making sure you are looking at love for what it is.

Great ideas for a better marriage
I really enjoyed this book by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott. The format is simple - the Love List is a list of 2 things to do once a day, once a week, once a month and once a year. Examples are:

Once a day find something that makes you both laugh.
Once a week boost your partner's self-esteem.

Along with the items on the list, the Parrotts include personal anecdotes and encouragement about how to re-vitalize a tired marriage or improve an already good one.

The Parrotts also do marriage conferences called "Becoming Soulmates" (look for the book by the same name). Pillow Talk for Couples: Drawing Closer Before the Lights Go Out" is the title of their newest book, a devotional that looks like a must-buy!

The Love List would be a great book for any married couple, newlyweds or golden-agers. The authors are Christians and the book is written from that perspective, but I believe all married couples would benefit greatly!

Thank you, Les and Leslie!

Sound practical advice
My wife and I have a good marriage, but for some time I've felt like our relationship has not had the "sparkle" that it ought. I've never been able to put my finger on how I/we have let things go flat and how I could work on rejuvinating things.

I ran across this book by accident and was instantly hooked. Unlike many relationship books, the author talks sense rather than nonsense.

The idea is truely simple - a list of eight behaviours to practice. Some per day, some per week, per month, per year. There is nothing fancy here, nothing that costs money. Nothing that requires elaborate preparation. The main idea is that husband and wife need to be intenttional about nurturing the marriage and they probably need to talk about important stuff a lot more than they are probably doing now. For example, item no. 1 on the list is touch each other each day.

The ideas here speak to me. I can see my wife and I putting this into practice over the long run. I believe that these 8 simple ideas will work change in our relationship.

Skinny book, and a fast read. Take your time, read it two or three times, give it to your spouse to read and then talk, talk, talk about the ideas.

Although published by a Christian publisher, and written from a Christian perspective, don't let that scare you off if you are of a different/no religious persuasion. The religious themes are minor and almost incidental. No preaching here.

I'd say this is for folks like us - good marriages that could be better. This is probably not the recipe for repairing a damaged relationship.

Christian Newlyweds: a devotional you'll have time to read!
The pastor who performed our ceremony gave us this book as a wedding gift, and has been a real blessing to us. Newlyweds often face so much change and upheaval that it may be hard to find time to work on the marriage. This book presents a year's worth of content, arranged by topic and meant to be read once a week. The chapters are brief but engaging, and each provides with discussion questions, a verse from scripture, and a story from a couple that relates to the theme. Once readers have finished talking about the content, they are encouraged to think about the week ahead and make plans to help each other in concrete ways.

We've found it to be a nice follow-up to our pre-marital counseling; this book provides on-going discussion and strategies for honoring and loving your spouse.

Note: this book assumes a Christian audience. While the discussions would be helpful for any couple, non-Christian readers should be aware of this orientation before buying the book.

Great Discussion Guide
This is the only marriage/relationship book I've been able to make it through - and I look forward to it every week! We take turns reading a chapter to each other weekly, and in addition to the topics being very real to life/couple issues, the discussion questions give you an opportunity to better understand and learn about your spouse. We also like how each week it asks you to select a particular upcoming challenge we'd like our spouse to pray for us about, and a concrete kindness they can offer us - this really gets us in touch with what is going on with the other. Highly recommended!!

Recommended for every couple who wants to grow spiritually.
This is one of the best devotional books for couples I have come across. It deals with couples beginning their lives together, but it would be beneficial to any couple whose spirituality is important to them. It would make a perfect wedding gift!

Good friends are hard to find
This pretty little hardcover gift book should be used in schools to help our children develop the most important life skill: picking good friends and being a good friend. The Parrotts' clear writing style and personal experiences makes this book easy, enjoyable and inspiring reading. The 10 Traits listed in the book say that a good friend: makes time, keeps a secret, cares deeply, provides space, speaks the truth, forgives faults, remains faithful, laughs easily, celebrates success and says a prayer. This book is a good catalyst toward self-evaluation. I have used it as small group curriculum at our church youth group with great success!

Worthy of Five Stars
A good friend (1) Makes time; (2) Keeps a secret; (3) Cares deeply; (4) Provides space; (5) Speaks the truth; (6) Forgives faults; (7) Remains faithful; (8) Laughs Easily; (9) Celebrates a success; (10) Says a prayer.

The Parrotts pack a wealth of theological and psychological truth into what is definitely more than a 'pretty little, hardcover, giftbook'. Though small and concise, the book is thorough and clear, and thoroughly enjoyable. It is full of classic quotes and personal antidotes, as well as the undergirding knowledge of the field of personal and relational growth. Easy to read in one sitting, the book's concepts will remain classic for the duration.
