A real page turner
The Franciscan is a well written book. The plot weaves mystery and intrigue into the inner workings and leadership of the Catholic Church. The characters of Dom and Symon have dynamic personalities, and are the kind of people I would love to join and have an adventure with.

It was a thriller that I couldn't put down until I finished it, and it had an unexpected ending that couldn't have been better. I look forward to reading the second book in the series.

A recent review from Publishers' Auxiliary
It's here! It's published (The Franciscan)! It's about murder, suicide, extortion, assassins, devilish plots - and the result is a narrative with more twists, turns and terror than a roller coaster ride through purgatory. It's a ride worth taking.

"Bill Park is creating his own genre. The Alpha Search, the second book of his 'Franciscan Trilogy', is a smart, original adventure that has his friars in a dangerous search for one of history's most important manuscripts."

Editor/The Light
"Great Fun! And I'm only on page 35."

"I started to read The Alpha Search one evening and fell asleep at 3 AM. The next evening I continued and finished the book at 2:25 AM. I couldn't put it down! I've got my bags packed to go in search of 'The Missing Hair Shirt.' (Volume III of The Franciscan Trilogy.)

A GREAT GIFT FOR ANY BASEBALL FAN. A GREAT TOUR OF ONE OF THE BEST STADIUMS EVER. I LOVE THIS BOOK. EXCELLENT READING. WRIGLEY BROUGHT TO LIFE IN A BOOK. GREAT BUY.

a book to display
i am a sox's fan but this book makes me love the chicago cubs magnificent building. It brings you behind the sceens and shows little secrets about the park. Great book.

Fitting tribute to the best ballpark in the world
William Hartel's affectionate tribute to the "Friendly Confines" of Wrigley Field is a must for any baseball fan, and especially if you've ever been fortunate to watch a game there. Though there are numerous historical photos outlining the history of the old park built in 1914, the bulk of the pictures were taken from dawn to dusk on the same day - June 18, 1993. Loaded with quotes and stories from everyone from Bill Veeck to Ernie Banks and long-time National League Umpire Doug Harvey, this book makes its case that Wrigley is not only the best place on earth to play and watch baseball, but one of the most memorable places to visit for fans of all ages. I read this book on a cold January evening yet when I closed my eyes, I could feel the sun on my face, smell the hot dogs, and hear Ernie Banks saying, "Let's play two!"

Harriman Trails: A Guide and History/1992
Published in Paperback by New York New Jersey Trail (1994)
Author: William J. Myles
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

Great guide to an underused resource
Harriman State Park (NY) is about 30 minutes outside of NY City. The main areas get crowded on late spring, summer and early fall weekends, but hike into the park a mile or so and you will find excellent and challenging trails virtually all to yourself. The Harriman Trails, A Guide and History gives the hiker many interesting facts on the trail they are contemplating hiking. It also gives the weary hiker the distance to the trail head ;) Great book. Too bad it's out-of-print. I was going to buy another one because my copy is dog-eared and worn.

A passport to one of New York's crown jewels!
Mr. Miles has captured the essence of Harriman State Park in his magnificent guide. As a life-long resident of Rockland County, which incorporates the eastern half of the park, I have hiked many of the trails. Yet with Mr. Miles' guide in hand, it's like hiking each trail for the first time! Of particular interest is the author's detailed history of the "forgotten villages" which were absorbed into the Park, and are slowly fading from memory. Harriman Park with it's 50,000+ acres is a wonderful treasure of natural unspoiled beauty only 40 miles from the greatest city in the world. Mr. Miles has given his readers a magnificent passport to this treasure!

Fine Art Landscape Photography at its best
Have you ever wondered why we don't find color photographs of today as emotion-evoking as the black and white photographs of the great masters like Ansel Adams or Edward Weston? Come and see this book, you will find photographs that will noursih your soul and raise your spirit. Photographs that will speak to yourself. Photographs that you can look at again and again and you will discover newer meanings each time. William Neill, one of the best color photographers of the day, has the mastery of color of Joel Meyerowitz, the love for wildness of Eliot Porter and the sensitivity of Edward Weston. This book is a compilation of 72 of the best color images of the photographer taken during the span of fifeteen years. All the photographs were taken using a 4x5 view camera and has exquisite image detail. At the end of the book, Neill briefly describes each image with background information and technical details. Buy this book and if possible visit one of the galleries like Ansel Adams gallery to view the big size fine art prints of William Neill for even more appreciation. I guarantee after reading this book, you will look at our wild treasures in a new way.

Color my world: The abstract beauty of nature
Entering the abstract and impressionistic world of photographer, William Neill, is a must for all landscape/nature photography nuts! He brings you "up close and personal" to autumn leaves on fire and moss that redefines the color "green",daring you to reach out and touch each and every colorful canvas. I guarantee that if you love landscape photography, but are looking for a book that pushes the boundaries of this genre, look no further...

Vol Fans will love it!
For Vol fans the country over, this will bring a transfusion of their "Orange Blood!" Great for anyone who ever haunted the hallowed field of Neyland Stadium. A must for your Vol friend or family for Christmas.

A "MUST HAVE" if your blood really runs orange!
Brings back some very good (and some bad) memories of "Football Time in Tennessee". A delightful collection of photography and anecdotes that shows the VOL fans "doing their thing".

I was particularly fond of the McElroy "Big Orange" Limo (Johnny grew up in my neighborhood). "Tailgating" at it's finest! He may be the "BIGGEST" Vol Fan.

As also enjoyed the "Vol Navy" photos. Having served as a crew member on one of it's vessels many times was an unforgettable experience that "Volmania" helps you relive in your memories.

You can almost hear the band playing "Rocky Top"!

After looking at someone else's copy, I had to have not one, but three copies. I ordered one for each of my two sons (Vol Alums) and one for my wife and I to enjoy. Three Christmas Gift problems solved! (hope they don't read this until after Christmas)

GO VOLS! Get "VOLMANIA"! You'll be glad you did!

A Vol Fan

Detailed, candid, humorous, exceptionally well presented.
Alone Among Friends is the first full-scale biography of W. Robert Parks, the eleventh and longest-serving president of Iowa State University. The life of Parks and the evolution of his university are intimately intertwined compelling this biography to serve as a history of the nation's first land-grand university as well. Alone Among Friends shows how a people's college, under Parks' stewardship, went on to become one of the nation's great institutions of higher learning a the peer of even the more prestigious European university systems. Alone Among Friends is a detailed, candid, occasionally humorous, exceptionally well presented and highly recommended biography of the man who, more than any other, is inextricably linked to Iowa State University.

The Anasazi of Mesa Verde and the Four Corners
Published in Paperback by University Press of Colorado (1996)
Author: William M. Ferguson
Amazon base price: $34.95
Average review score:

Authoritative and thoughtful view of Southwest archaeology
Well-researched and gorgeously illustrated, this book manages to convey its author's enthusiasm for the Southwest's remarkable ruins without sacrificing scientific detail and even skepticism. He takes a well-known subject, Mesa Verde, and let's us see it with new eyes, while illuminating some of the least-well-known and most intriguing sites in the region. Few scholars and fewer tourists venture beyond Mesa Verde intothe obscure corners of the San Juan River valley, but William Ferguson shows how rewarding the trip could be. Above all, it is refreshing to read an enthusiast's book that does not indulge in unsupported speculation about the lives and beliefs of the prehistoric people of the Southwest.
