LOVED IT!!
A wonderful book!!! Finally a text that talks about the aesthetics of lighting. I was so tired of reading thru design books that spent more time on technical specifications of luminaires than actual design. I strongly urge any and all lighting design professors to utilize this book in the classroom. It is so much more stimulating to an aspiring design student than disussions on double plano convex lenses. I would also recommend Francis Reid's book "Lighting the Stage".

Stage Lighting as Art
Without a doubt, the best book on the market in its treatment of stage lighting as a vital dramatic art form. There isn't the usual multitude of chapters on the basics of wiring, bulbs, equipment which is obsolete before the book reaches the shelves, blue + green =?, etc., etc. Dr. Palmer simply explains how to create a beautiful picture on the stage. This is the step up for which the professional lighting artist has been waiting. Congratulations Richard.

A must for anyone serious about Lighting Design
This is the first modern book I have read dealing with Lighting Design as an Art Form. It seriously investigates Lighting Design for the stage at an advanced level.

incredible greatness and funny, too
I know I can speak for Alice Cooper, Steven Spielberg and everyone else who ever watched them that Wallace and Ladmo were the greatest! God bless those guys! This book is a must have!

If you loved the show, buy the book!
If you grew up in Arizona like I did, and grew up watching the Wallace and Ladmo show after or before school...religiously as I did, you've got to get this book which chronicles the show wonderfully and really brings back very fond memories. KJ Chandler, AZ

THE book for Wallace and Ladmo fans!
This is THE book about the longest-running show in TV history (and rightfully so.) All the profits from it go to charity. I bought it a few years ago. It includes a chapter (biography and photos) on each of the show's four decades; what happened after the show ended; song lyrics ("I watched the tube today, Wall-boy/Captain Super didn't make the grade..."); fan comments; and sections on some of the show's behind-the-scenes people, other performers like Dan Horn, and regular guests like Officer Harry, celebrity guests; and more.

The best thing about this book is all the photos. I loved the photos from the early years. I didn't start watching until the '70s, so those '50s and '60s photos are fascinating to me. I also liked the photos of their live shows (remember Legend City and the state fair?) and the photos of the set. Too many of them look a bit grainy or out-of-focus. It would've been nice to have more photos of Pat McMahon's hundreds of different characters. (That could've been a book in itself!) But since more/better photos probably don't exist, I can't fault the book for not including them. This book is as good as it could possibly be.

It will be of interest to anyone interested in TV history and/or Arizona history. I think it should be required reading for all the masses of people moving here. And if you're a Wallace and Ladmo fan, how can you live without it?

Damn, I miss these guys. Even Gerald. They make me proud to be an Arizona native. Here's to you, Ladmo!

Psychological and Transcendental Phenomenology and the Confrontation With Heidegger (1927-1931): The Encyclopaedia Britannica Article, the Amsterdam Lectures, "Phenomenology and Anthropology" and Husserl's Marginal Notes in Being and Time and kant (Edmund Husserl Collected Works, Vol 6)

Phenomenological Confrontations
In the clash with Heidegger, Husserl's phenomenology came into close contact with a devisive bug named "intersubjectivity". After dealing with the differences inherent in their two positions, Husserl decided that the only way to remedy the situation, and therefore phenomenology, was to begin work on the phenomenological analytic of ethics, or how to found the possibility of an ethics (this comes thorugh in the Amsterdam lectures).

To the book's credit, it demonstrates clearly that where Heidegger lived a sum ergo cogito, Husserl rather thought the cogito ergo sum, all the way through to its "liminal" zone, the border. This began the confrontation, and would also soon end it. Thus some of the decisive problems addressed in this Encyclopedia Brittanica book with regards to phenomenology are: history, the subject, time, the other, the possibility of phenomenology with respect to the position on time, etc. Derrida would indeed, as another reviewer has unwittingly pointed out, characterize some of these problems as the break between "the laugh" and the laser-fine gaze of reason. That is, if time is a problem for phenomenology in Husserl's sense, one must laugh at the possibility of phenomenology. If it is rather a problem in Heidegger's sense, then one must phenomenologically laugh (see "An Intro to Husserl's 'Origin of Geometry'")...Well worth the money either way.

a laugh riot
Edmund Husserl was the leading comedic writer of his time... This book is a strong example of his work and sheds new light on the relationship with his moronic sidekick, Martin Heidegger.

Exercise With a Twist
I'm a weight lifter. When my massage therapist told me about this book and told me it was about muscle strength, I thought that no one could be stronger than I was. I tried a couple of the exercises in the book and realized I was not as strong as I thought I was. All I can say is give it a try you will be surprised how much more effective you become in the weight room and with all exercise. I can lift more and I look better. My body is leaner and more cut. I also enjoy my workouts more because I am not sore afterwards. I particularly enjoyed the CD-ROM. It is a very effective way to learn about this therapy and to try it for yourself. I recommend this book highly to anyone who wants to look and feel better.

Feeling Like a New Person!
I have had pain for the majority of my life and have sought various treatments including physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, acupunture...you name it, I've tried it. Everyone of whom said they could help me. No one did. My doctor recommeded this book saying it would help me. He was right. A sceptic by heart I tried it halfheartedly. But couldn't believe how much better I felt in a week. I immediately called the clinic and booked myself in for an appointment. Today, I am still doing the exercises every day, running, dancing and enjoying my life. Thanks to the people at Symmetry.

FORTUNE ON A STICK
I throughly enjoyed this book and fortune telling kit set. It's the only book that I've seen that covers one of the most authentic and oldest Chinese divination methods . The book covers the historical background of the divination stick methods and has several interesting tidbits on Chinese religion, the way of the Tao, Ying and Yang, and plus readings from the I-Ching. You do not have to believe in the Chineses deities to enjoy the book set.

this is the most interesting book of its kind
I first acquired this book as a scholastic books paperback retitled demons, monsters and abodes of the dead. the flashy title did not prepare me for the reality of a book that is peaceful and beautifully in scope, content, and writing. my parents threw the book out by mistake when we were moving and I spent the past twenty years looking for a new copy. That dream was realized in 1996 in a San Francisco library, and a photostat is sadly all I have- the book ought to be reprinted forthwith and bought for every child, as it is a fantastic introduction to realms of imagination that will guide a child to new books and new adventures.

Very Good Overview
I was looking for a good overview book of the Vietnam War and this really fit the bill. The author put together a well thought out, easy to read and well-written book that does a good job of giving the reader the high points. The author was a solder in the combat and spent a number of years in the military so he has an authoritative position to speak from. He does a great job of keeping the book away from being overly laden with military jargon or the Rambo style of combat writing. The book is focused on the American effort and thus skims the pre U.S. troop entry into the war. If you are looking for a deeper history on the start of the war with the French or the overall American involvement in Asia then this book will disappoint.

The treatment he gave to the major battles was good. He presented an easy to follow account of the battle, what lead up to it and the outcome. He also touched on some of what was happening back home with the politics, but only briefly. I think the most interesting parts of the book for me was the details of the air war, more specifically how the bombing kept escalating and then the final bombing push by Nixon. My only complaint with the book is that it was an overview that was a bit too light on the facts for me. The book was only 270 pages long, and book size do not necessary determine quality, this book could have been a little bit more in-depth. It seemed to me that to get a better understanding a few more pages could have been added without the overview turning into a in depth study.

Excellent account of the political problems in vietnam!
I don't read books hardly ever, but we read this for a military history class, and I finished it in 2 days. This book gave me new insight into a battle I knew nothing about..I had always heard we lost the war, which I took as a military loss. But, after reading this book, I believe we totally won militarily, but lost the war politically. It's hard to imagine how many people are without a brother, father, or husband because our government couldn't make one intelligent decision!!..Read this book and you will see it from someone who was there, not some historian who thinks he really knows what happened.

A good book on the Vietnam War
I highly enjoyed reading this book on the Vietnam War. So much in fact that I have read it more than once. It is easy to read and concentrates on military strategy. Those looking for a book relating to social and cultural upheaval in the States during the war will be disappointed since there is very little of that. This book is a purely political and military history. Not all of his comments may be welcome to some readers. He believes, for instance, that the U.S. could have won the war but politics and flawed strategy and tactics resulted in the U.S. withdrawing from South Vietnam.

Doc the Guru, its not AMPSB
This is not AMPSB (another maintenace planning and scheduling book), when you read this book you can actually feel that you are in the real working world.Doc does not talk concepts he tells what happens in real Maintenance World and how to go to World Class Maintenance World using 6 principals of planning and scheduling.I will stick to this book as a reference in the process of continouse improvent.I will also recommend this book to Project Managers to see whats the real concept behind planning and scheduling not just a traditional name as done in most Project Management books. I you want to know why must you plan and schedule buy this book.Good job Doc. I the was a 10 star I would have given it a 10star, this is a unique book I have ever read.

Ideal for all Maintenance Program Designers
Doc Palmer has provided a great tool for all Maintenance Program Designers and others to use. Mr. Palmer has provided good details and examples in the book while also making it as enjoyable to read as it is informative. I highly recommend this book to all who are step one and beyond in Maintenance Management and Development. One of the hardest espects of starting a new maintenance program for a company is often getting management to except the required changes. The Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Handbook helps by often having a ready example or referance to provide a second means to demonstrate to the client the how, why and effect on his bottom line. This reason alone is worth the cost of this book and then some.
Doc Palmer also drives home the truth about CMMS; when to invest and when to wait. This for me is very important for my specialty is designing Preventative Maintenance Operational Programs for the client. Once I have done so the client can invest in the exact CMM software they require. Unfortunatly all too often clients approach this backwards; they buy the program first and then hope someone like myself can make their operation work with the CMM. They end up spending thousands and a lot of their valued time for little reward at the end. If your company is in this position or about to be read this book before you do anything else.

It's Hard to Find Objection
Hand-on experience is crucial for performing successfull maintenance. It can be only your personal experience or, if you are dedicated to continual learning, you can "borrow" some of hard-to-gain experience from top-class professionals.
Every sentence in this book is illustrated with very concrete examples from real life, and that makes it invaluable. Author has comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of maintenance, and that is visible on any page of this book, so although it is thematically concentrated on planning and scheduling, it can be used by anyone involved in structure of companies' maintenance organisation.
From explaning overall corporate strategy regarding maintenance to decribing every particular day-to-day task of maintenance planner and scheduler, this book guides you through the whole process, in which planning and scheduling are vital subprocesses to bring anything else to life.
Although the book is oriented to explain manual documentation system, you can easily bring described principles in very extensive use of CMMS practice. You can only benefit from broader view that can only tear you off "computer-will-solve-everything" dreams.
Great!
