A favorite for two to seven year olds
This is a favorite book at our house. I read it every night to our two year old. We have owned it since 1999. That year I read it to my oldest son and the rest of his first grade class. They loved it and requested a second reading so that they could shout like Sharon. This year (2003) I went back and read it to another first grade class this time my two year old was with me. The class laughed histerically because after I read what Sharon shouted my little one said it again. Their teacher told me it was the highlight of their first grade year. OK the rhyming isn't perfect but neither is Sharon. This is a very fun book!! Buy it!

Fop Flop In the most elegant apparel Nothing but worm silks In the finest golden thread And superior king red velvet sashes

You'd think I would have known better? I couldn't blame them who wouldn't? cut air with scissors while sewing their needles into invisible cloth for the very low price of..... silk a loom golden thread a full bag of coins Oh those Villain Scoundrels! Now, I know not to buy such vestments with rather large investments Oh what a bratty gnatty I was For I thought I was cool but truly a fool Why emperor you look rather bare, that's quite rare! I was in such a pursuit For only a birthday suit I must admit now Me, My very own self yes indeed, your emperor himself have become a stupid and incompetent dandy All for the Imaginary Image! and now I live happily ever after, no more garb well, that is until the next apparel discovery (Now if you'll excuse me there's a clothier waiting at my door who says he's created the latest design in Pajama attire)

A delightful gem
Generally, I do not care for audio books; many of the readers speak in a dull voice that rapidly drives me either away from the story or to sleep. However, there are a few exceptions; this is one.

Understand, that this is not the normal audio book; this edtion has a large cast of actors who collaborated to produce this item as a fund raiser for Starbright.

The result is an ensemble piece that is witty and charming. Part of the fun for me, was guessing who was reading before looking at the cast list included in the box.

Other folks feel that this isn't for children; I don't know as I don't have children, but I found that my "inner child" was highly entertained for 40 minutes with this tape.

If you are a fan of one or more of the actors in this edition or like puns (there are many here!), then you will probably like the Starbright edtion of the Emporer's New Clothes.

Helped my son to read
I had been given 2 of these books from a friend and I decided to see if there were anymore. My son loves this book. He's now working on reading the adult side. It's a great idea to have a page each, 1 for the adult and 1 for the child. We have several of these books now and I see my son sitting down and reading them on his own.

The Princess and the Pea

A Real Princess
PLEASE NOTE! This review is for the version that is illustrated by Dorothee Duntze. Everyone knows this Hans Christian Andersen story about the bedraggled princess who shows up looking for shelter on a stormy night. She might be a good match for the prince who's been searching for a "real" princess so the queen mother runs a little test...the rest is the subject of fairy tales! This version is simply told and beautifully illustrated. The pictures, executed in soft pastel colors, have a quirky Art Deco feel to them that I thoroughly enjoyed. The gowns of all the ladies in the book are done in a collage style and are covered in intricate patterns and designs. Lovely...the real thing!

an amusing modern twist to an old tale!
In the beautiful land of Upper-Crestalia King Adolph, Queen Frieda, & their dear son Prince Ralph live & the queen is quite content until her son one day bursts into her chamber & declares that he wishes to marry.

The queen does not like this idea at all so she hatches a plan to prevent her son marrying & she makes sure that the few princesses who do audition for Prince Ralph's wife all fail.

Mad with grief, Prince Ralph tears off in his expensive car down to Lower-Crestalia & when smoke starts billowing out of his hood, poor Ralph is stranded.

To his great surprise & relief, an auto-mechanic pulls up next to him & a dirty young woman in overalls carrying a tool box, jumps out. They get to talking, & the Prince is smitten! Her name is Opal, & she is the princess of Lower-Crestalia.

On the spot Prince Ralph proposes & when her prince charming confesses that his mother has idiotic tasks in store for her, Opal only becomes more determined.

Opal passes the tests with flying colors & that's when the queen insists there be a third test which is the one from which the title of this hilarious book is taken.

Will Princess Opal pass the final test? Will the queen's crafty plan succeed? Read this enchanting book & find out!

Great book, but will students use it?
I think this is a great book and I'll be using it myself here when I teach two courses called "Learning Strategies for History. While I found it very useful, I'm wondering how useful a student attempting to use it alone would find this book. The suggested exercises are good but without feedback some motivation may be lacking. So, if you thought of getting this for your child or spouse or whoever who is having difficulty with a history course, do it but be willing to read it with them and give them feedback as they try to put some of the suggestions and information into practice.

Pic'N Up Pace: An Intermediate Guide to Using Pic 16 17 Microcontrollers from Square 1

Not a beginner's book. Intended for more advanced users.
This book is not for novices. It assumes that you have a working knowledge of PICs and their basic operations.

This book does include many examples of things people want to do with PICs: LCD driver, serial communications, etc. The type is easy to read and is setup like an experimenter's handbook. From that standpoint it is a decent book.

Still advanced users would probably want one of Amazon's other PIC offerings. Those books probably have a better presentation of advanced PIC theory and practice. If you are a novice you would be better served to buy one of the beginner books.

A great book for Self starters!
This is a great book for those who have very basic experience with PIC programming or have read "Easy Pic'N". The book is short but you'll learn fast (the author has good sense of humor).

Best book currently available for PIC beginners.
Having bought all the (four) available PIC books on the market, I eventually found myself continually refering back to this one. It is put together in a clean simple way and doesn't blind you with (confusing) science. If you can only afford to get ONE book for PIC's then I'd recommend this one first. Thats my 2 cents.
