The protaganist is a decorated civil war veteran who experiences a variety of dangerous experiences with natural elements and indians. The story is well told and holds the reader's attention throughout.

I'm the person who whispers "I know the ending" at the movie - an irritating trait according to my friends. But I can't stand when I know what's going to happen in a story.

I thought this would be a good book in that it seemed unpredictable but as I read on, it degenerated into a trite rehash of every old western movie I've seen.

If this is your genre, I supposed you could do worse. If you're not into Westerns, you probably won't like this book.
