Shady
The book's credibility is diminished by the author's over-emphasis on details; details that none of us could remember about ourselves or encounters we experienced so long after the fact (several years in this case). For example, he talks about the color of ties he wore and the suits of people he met only once or twice. The details of his alleged service to his secret clique inside the Mossad are not subject to verification. I suspect that, as in the case of the first book, the author creatively embellishes and takes literary license with stories he got from international newspapers or CNN. This second book reads more like an espionage novel than a factual recounting of his years inside and outside the Mossad. Then again, the whole thing could be an elaborate disinformation campaign (serving whatever purpose) carried out by the psychological warfare unit Ostrovsky praises so highly.

Very REAL...SCARY...TOUCHING.....SHOCKING........
I have read many books on espionage regarding Mossad, MI 5, FBI & Mr Ostrovosky is very courageous to come forward to "inform" everyone of the truth. Unfortunately, I have not been able to obtain his first book - By Way of Deception. I felt a real sense of danger when he has to travel to Jordan & Egpyt.., I am sure he still "dream" about those operations. Struggling to live a normal life after leaving Mossad can be difficult and besides telling us the details of many operations, he also describe his emotions, feelings & aspirations - all of which helped to sustain him and you can't help but feel that he too like everyone else deserve a second chance in life.

A chilling look at the guardians of the Jewish State.
If what the author writes is true, then I grieve for the State of Israel. Mr. Ostrovsky's writings gives a chilling insight into an agency that is acting more like Hitler's Gestapo and Honacher's Stasi than what it is supposed to be: a protector of all of the people of Israel.
The fact that the book is rather convoluted reading actually give me a better feeling for Mr. Ostrovski and why he felt it important to blow the whistle. Calling this man a traitor would be wrong; he plainly loves Israel and is willing to do the right thing by it.
I strongly recommend this book to those who belive that no secret agency should be given absolute power. It's plain to see that it has corrupted the Mossad absolutely.

A Big Difference
I have read all Victor Ostrovsky books. However, both "deception" books which were non-fiction (both books are about the time that Mr. Ostrovsky was with MOSSAD and after that) were quite different from Mr. Ostrovsky's last two novels, "The Lion of Judah" and "Black Ghosts". In my opinion, the theme of none of his novels were original. The story of "Black Ghosts" is very similar to several books written earlier on by others about the renegade elements with Russian military and intelligence who are opposed to any sort of democracy in Russia. Everything in this book is so predicatable that after reading the first few chapters the reader can easily predict and guess what will happen next.

A Realistic Glimpse into the World of Espionage!
Knowing the author was an actual Case Officer for the Israeli Intelligence Agency makes this adventure more exciting and believable. There is an authenticity that cannot be contrived by Hollywood so to speak. I felt as though I were privy to the journels of Ostrovsky's real life experiences. I couldn't put it down until the exciting conclusion!! For all of you thrill seekers and spy lovers, this is a must read!

Hold on to your sits
This is the most riveting and exciting books I have ever read! Victor Ostrovsky might again hit the best sellers list with this excellent creation. His energetic, exuberant imagination, his ability to make familiar plots yield an endless supply of new twists- all are joyously undiminished.

If this book is all lies, then why is it banned in Israel?
This is a very poorly written book. The organisation is poor, the writing is sloppy, and the translation of technical terms from Hebrew is quite often inexact. But if you want to read a well-written book, go and search for Shakespear! This book was written by an un-happy ex-Mossad agent. It's not altogether obvious what parts of this book, if any, are true and what parts, if any, are false. But the book is morbidly fascinating, in that it describes the inner workings of an organisation about which there are hardly any "legitimate" ways of finding out. Especially interesting is the detailed description of the training that Mossad career officers undergo! So get the book, and read it, and judge for yourself. Keep in mind that this book is banned in Israel -- neither it nor its translation into Hebrew can be sold in bookstores in Israel. Now officials in Israel have claimed on numerous occassions that this book is all nonsense. This raises a basic question: If this book is nonsense, if what it talks about is ALL false, then why ban it?

The Mossad: As seen from the inside.
Victor Ostrovsky says: "I was elated when I was chosen and granted the privilege to join what I considered to be the elite team of the Mossad.

But it was the twisted ideals and self-centered pragmatism that I encountered inside the Mossad, coupled with this so-called team's greed, lust, and lack of respect for human life, that motivated me to tell this story."

He blames the Mossad for "turning the Zionist dream into the present-day nightmare." For choosing war and hate over peace in the middle east. It is from Victor Ostrovsky's personal experiences that he makes these claims. It's very interesting and eye opening. And after reading this book you will want to know more about this Mossad.

He talks about the fact that they are entrenched in the USA. That the Mossad owns hundreds of homes in the New York and Washington D.C.. How jewish businessmen all around the world agree to provide for the Mossad when ever they are called upon to do so. Providing money, businesses for cover, houses, apartments, cars, boats....you name it.

In this book you will read how in Washington D.C. 1979, the Mossad "thru their network of electronic bugs at the homes and offices of various Arab ambassadors and leaders in New York and Washington" forced US Ambassador Andrew Young's to resign because he recognized the PLO. Young was open to both sides. And because of that he was seen as anti-sementic, anti-Israeli and therefore had to be eliminated.

How the Mossad didn't like Yitzhak Rabin because he "demanded raw data from intelligence, rather than the distilled version normally offered, making it much more difficult for the Mossad to use their information to set the agenda the way they wanted." They couldn't manipulate Rabin so they searched and search and finally found a way to discredit him. Mrs. Rabin, against Israeli law, had a foreign bank account with less than $10,000 in New York. Mrs. Rabien used it when traveling there even though she was entitled, as the prime minister's wife, to have all her expenses paid by the government. When the time was right the Mossad released that information thereby assuring Rabins fall and Menachem Begins installation as prime minister. Menachem Begin was their type of man. He was a hawk. A dedicated Arab hater.

How the Mossad will supply any country with military training, weapons and ammo. for the right price. And has no qualms about sells opium and hashish. Everybody is a target...and to be exploited. Everyone is the enemy in the Mossads eyes.

You will come away from this book seeing Jews in a different light. A dim light. I've been told that the Jews see themselves as gods chosen people. Chosen for what tho you will ask after reading this. To be an example of evil? Are they gods gift...or satans?

Mr. Ostrovsky says that Jews will forever be seeking revenge for the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust. That they conveniently forget that they weren't the only ones. That some 47 million one hundred and ninety nine thousand people were killed, from 14 different countries and of all manner of religious beliefs. He says "The Holocaust could have been a source for unity with other nations rather than a tool for separation.

I've always found it odd how religions and the followers of, can be some of the most intolerant and hateful people. The very things that most religions teach against. I've never understood it. But then I've never been religious.

This is my first book on the subject of Israel so I can not making anyjudgments. But my interest is peeked so I will read more from various sources.

Riveting, revealing, worrisome.
Ostrovsky's book is a must for people who want to understand the secret services. Initially, you are shocked by the revelations, recognizing that it may compromise Israeli national security and its agents. Then you are awed by the training, the logistics and coordination of information gathering. You then become worried, that such a complex and effective organization has no real accountability. Perhaps, the real worry is that Ostrovsky describes a mode of conduct whereby Mossad redefines right and wrong (redefining it in terms of "what's good for Israel and especially Mossad is good, the hell with the rest"), and acts on that basis. And finally, you reconcile your emotions with the knowledge that this couragous book can only force a re-evaluation of Mossad practices. Today's Israeli leaders cannot ignore the claims made by this book, and because of it, there is a little more accountability in the world. I enjoyed the book thoroughly.

Poor literature
As an Israeli with experience in israeli military and israeli way of life, I have a "gut feeling" the book is (at least major part of it ) is pure imagination.Frankly I was bored to read about countless coffie drinking and sigarete smoking of the author.I couldn't get rid of the impression that he tries hard to "fill" the book and heavily relies on magazine articles sometimes word to word ( I red some of them). Thanks god I didn't buy the books ( I spotted the book in the Public library). If you into spy books may be there is some value there, but for god sake, don't buy is ,get it in the library.

Good Follow Up to "By Way Of Deception"
This book picked up where "By Way of Deception" left off. In
this book the author tells of more deeds of the Mossad. The
author goes to other intelligence agencies in an attempt to derail the plans of the Mossad.According to the author Mossad
tried to undermine the Arab-Israeli peace process, conducted biological experiments on Palestenians,Organized propoganda campaigns against world leaders, supported the Soviest Union coup,
killed an Israeli Generaland several other individuals, and also
planned on assassinating President George Bush. This book serves
as a strong accusation against the Mossad. This book will prove
to be very interesting reading.

Inside the Mossad
One of the most corrupt and dangerous organizations in the world today is the Mossad. "By Way of Deception" and "The Other Side of Deception" pretty well sums up the processes that are used to conduct warfare against Israel's enemies. One of the favored techniques is to attack some one, blame it on an enemy of Israel, then sit back and watch as the "innocent enemy" recieves their punishment.
Back in 1967, the USS Liberty was "mistakenly" attacked by Israeli jet fighters with rockets and cannon, bombers dropping explosives, PT boats firing five torpedos and machine gunning crewmen waving American flags and the life boats as they were lowered into the water. If there had been no survivors, the attack could have been blamed on the Egyptians, who the US public would have wanted punished. Our good ally, the Israeli goverment would have been on our side as we killed Egyptians for them. Please also read "Assault on the Liberty" and see how far the cover-up went.

As an added concern, the only country to benefit from the 9/11 World Trade Center attack was Israel. After the Muslims crashed the airplanes into the towers, Americans no longer cared about the slaughter of Palestinian people by Israel. I sometimes wonder if the Israeli Mossad was involved in the planning of the WTC attack. Reading this book only adds to my concern.

thrillingly fast book
I read this book in three days. This is quite fast for me. The author is very skillful about telling several stories at once. You never know what is going to happen next in any of these stories. It seems every minor detail in the story seems to have dramatic consequences to what happens next. Additionally, the action in the book is very fast. I was not bored for a single page during the entire book. However, the book did not have enough descriptive detail for my taste. I would have liked to get to know the characters and the cities they operated in in greater detail.
