Donor
Pekkanen's approach (especially at the time of publication) to this controvertial subject is handled with extreme care and passion; "Donor" is a wonderful read.

AMAZING
I thought this book was magnificent. I remember reading it in junior high school, and even then it had a profounf effect on me as to how I saw being an organ donor, and more importantly, how good can come from tragedy.

surgical excellence
THIS ATLAS REPRESENTS ABOUT THE BEST THERE IS FOR A SURGICAL TEACHING TEXTBOOK. EVERY OPERATION IS ILLUSTRATED AND DETAILED STEP BY STEP WITH SUCH A CLARITY AND ACCURACY THAT INDEED GIVES THE READER A FIRST ALMOST-REAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE ACTUAL PROCEDURE, EVEN BEFORE GETTING TO THE O.R. UNFORTUNATELY IS OUT OF PRINT AND VERY HARD TO FIND.I READ FROM OUR DEPARTMENT'S LIBRARY. I'M DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO TRY TO OWN ONE BECAUSE IT WOULD DEFINITELY REPRESENT THE BEST VALUE AND ASSET IN ANY SURGUCAL REFERNCE LIBRARY.

An excellent resource for the practicing physician
This is probably the best single text I have ever seen for the practicing physician interested in clinical gastroenterology. The book is practical, clearly written and does not contain a great deal of extraneous material or information of interest only to laboratory scientists. Illustrations and tables are excellent. The text is very up to date. The physiologic descriptions are concise and valuable. All in all a must for any physician who comes in contact with patients who may have digestive diseases.

Good evidence in Digestive diseases
This is by far the best reference if you are looking for evidence in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Objectives very clear and useful for attendings, residents and medical students not only in a G.I. service but also in a medicine rotation. It helps me a lot when we are discussing a controversial topic like treatment in functional dyspepsia, treatment of ulcerative colitis or the screening in colorectal cancer on rounds or even in a conference. I especially like chapters 1 (evidence based gastroenterology), 3 (ulcer disease and helicobacter pylori infection) and 25 (ascites and hepatorenal syndrome) . Highly recommended because is different from traditional old books.

Jesse Crawford, poet of the organ, wizard of the mighty Wurlitzer
Published in Unknown Binding by Vestal Press ()
Author: John W. Landon
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $54.00
Average review score:

The creative genius of "The Poet of the Organ"
This book on the "Poet of the Organ", Jesse Crawford, tells us everything about the master of the Theatre Organ. Those were indeed the days, my friend, and Jesse was the man! He played all the great theatres of the times, and became the darling of all who loved popular organ music. We learn of his love of music and the organ, his wives and children, and his final days as a teacher and lecturer on the Hammond Organ, "Music's most glorious Voice".
His story is the story of Hollywood and the incredible Movie Palaces of the twenties and thirties; a time when the organ supplied the only sound there was for a movie, creating all the excitement from the many keyboards and pedals of the "Mighty Wurlitzer" Theatre Organs of the times.
Truly this is a well written and in-depth study of the man, the music, and the King of Instruments, the Organ. 5 stars indeed!

Excellent biography, well researched, adds to organ history
I may be biased but this book corrects many of the incorrect facts in other references. Enthusiasts either love or loath John Snetzler as an organ builder but he undoubtedly held and contibuted a great deal to English musical history.

I knew John and this was his story.
It was with great saddness that I recently learned of the passing of Dr. John Robbins from one of his Thai friends.

I knew John in Bangkok prior to his illness and saw him in Washington, D.C. both while he was waiting for the transplant and later after he received it. My last conversation with him was at the time his book was published and he was so excited by the possibilities.

John's use of the Buddhist "stings" to hold the book together is wonderful. His "rat-a-tat" writing style in describing the fast pace of medical events is attention-getting.

John changed the world a bit with his book. I regret I will not be able to tell him how much it meant to me.

This book is the best non-fiction book I have ever read
Mr. Robbins takes the reader, grabs them quickly, and doesn't let go until the end. You know he survives his ordeal, but you are still in tears in the middle wondering "is he going to make it?"

Thanks for writing this valuable book.

An inpiring near death story about "effortless effort".
John Robbins uses a mix of Buddhaism and basketball (effortless effort) to tell how he survived and prospered after a near death experience. Part medical thriller and part spiritual exploration, he tells his story of surviving a liver transplant. His recollections about his surgeon alone are worth the read. A very good writer, he tells his story without without self-pity or fatalism. Inspiring is perhaps an over-used word in book reviews, but you will agree it applies to Strings.
