Red & Rover
Red & Rover will bring back treasured memories of time spent with your own 4 legged friend. Red & Rover is to the love felt between "Man" & his true best friend as Diblert is to the business world. The stories are for all ages (0-99). Rover is a cross between lassie, snoopy, and rin-tin-tin. If you are a reader of the series you should get this book. If you have not read the series you will start reading it after reading this book and become a fan. This book provides the first meeting betweed Red and Rover. I have purchased 3 copies: one to read, one to save, and one to loan. After reading this book you will be hooked and look at your current coompanion with more understanding.

My only wish is that all the strips would be published.

Red and Rover
Red and Rover displays the love between a boy and his best friend. One of the best comic strip books I've ever read. I recommend it to anyone.

Red and Rover: A Boy, A Dog, A Time, A Feeling
Brian Basset book should be on every bookshelf from child to adult. The story of a boy and his dog is timeless. The book is not just for the fans of his comic strip. In this day and age of...violence, and terrorism all over the media, this book will transport you to a time that will bring back memories of your own childhood. With Christmas and Chanukah only a few months away, this book in my opinion will make the perfect gift for anyone.

Fantastic!! Should be a children's classic.
I remember reading this book to my much younger brother, he absolutely loved it and would check it out of the library at every opportunity. It is truly a wonderful children's book, and I am amazed that it is out of print. If you get the opportunity to read it, do so! Your children will love it, and so will you.

A very magical spin on the true meaning of Christmas.
I can't believe this book is out-of-print! It has all the right ingredients for a really lovely Christmas story: orphans, a dog, and a wonderful ending. I had to make a decided effort to obtain this book, but my search was well-rewarded. However, my desire to purchase it as a special Christmas gift for three children who love Leon Garfield's other work will not be satisfied...'tis unluckily out-of-print! Very un-fair!

ever thought of being a firefighter? read this!!
Knights of the Red Cross is an exciting look into the fire service. The book starts with a 17-year-old boy with a dream of becoming a firefighter, and takes you through his career. You get to look inside the life of a volunteer firefighter both on the job and his family life. Although this is a fiction book fire call accounts, graphically and emotionally are real and at the beginning of each chapter you are taken through the growth that a fire goes through as seen by "the Fire". If you ever thought of becoming a fire fighter this is for you, if you are a firefighter, you will find yourself throughout this book

A good book for firefighters
This book, "Knights of the Red Cross", ia a good book about firefighters. It shows how firefighters live. It tells the story of a young firefighter, George Adams, that messes up just like anyone else would and another guy, Don French, that follows his dream to be a full-time firefighter.

George Adams, the rookie, goes into a basement fire and chokes when the smoke cuts his air supply. Later a fire gets worse and worse by the second and George must stop it.

Misunderstood?
Red Chief, the red haired, freckle faced, 7 year old, is really a good kid. So he sets cats on fire and shoots arrows through the postman's hat. So he through Becky in the lake, he just wanted to get her clean. But why does everyone in Summit, Alambama (the flattest little town in the south) run when he comes out to play? And what happens when he is kidnapped by the two slick, charming, and unusually kind con-men Sam and Bill Driscoll? Red Chief (or Johnny Dorset by true name) adores them both, which is more than is to be said about their feelings toward him. Bill gets hit by Hurricane Red Chief the hardest. But what happens when they try to collect the ransom leaves them both on the short side of "The Ransom of Red Chief"!!!!

A good intro to NHL hockey for those new to the sport.
Cam Neely does a good job of explaining the basics of hockey for the beginning fan. He shares his enthusiasm for the game well with the reader, and the book is very easy to follow. The plentiful photos and diagrams help explain all of the concepts and rules of the game. He discusses the basic positions and strategies, describes the NHL in detail and gives a good history of the league, and gives guidelines for learning to play. The writing style is simple and straightforward, but also a little redundant. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is just discovering the game of hockey and wants to learn more about it. If you're already a fan and want to learn more about strategies and other aspects of the game, pass this one by. I've been following hockey for several years and wanted to learn more details about the game, but I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of depth in this book, as I already knew most of the information. But as I said, it's a great guide for new fans.

good

Add Red Hat Linux to Your Windows Desktop in a Weekend (With CD-ROM)

Perfect for novices
This book is the most simplistic and basic introduction to Linux available. Proffitt opted to write a book that steps you through the process of installing and configuring the software with explanations. As a result, this book is basically a step-by-step instruction manual on how to install and configure Red Hat Linux (version 7.0, which is included on CDROM).

No advanced or intermediate topics are covered. After finishing this book, you definitely won't be a guru, but you will have installation headaches behind you so you can start really exploring Linux.

Good book for beginners
This is a pretty good book for the beginning computer user. Much of the information can be found without too much difficulty out on the net, so if you feel like saving a few bucks go there. If you don't feel like messing with searching around buy the book

My first install of Linux
This was surpising painless on my Windows 98 machine. I used Partition Magic to prepare my disk to dual boot. The GUI lead me through this effortless installation on Linux. I avoided Linux for so long because of the talk of the installation. I bought this because I had to learn Unix but intalling Unix on Intel machine can be a [pain] because of driver issues. Linux has more drivers to support PC devices. Go to Partition Magic website to get inside on installing for dual boot. MOst people say to install Windows first then Linux in dual boot situation.

Well Researched?
This book was purportedly well researched. Well, maybe while the author was collecting data on weapons of mass destruction, he forgot to read up on how people really speak and act. The characters in this book were overblown caricatures of every other player you've ever read about in the spy-thriller genre: Deranged villain seeking to extract revenge on government for cancelling his top secret research project battles noble, selfless, widower hero who can withstand all injuries to outwit villain and still fall in love with beautiful, gutsy, blackbelt heroine who fights the good 'ol boy network to earn her place on the team. Need I go on?

Also, this may be a nit, but the author lost all credibility with me in the first chapter, when he stated that the weight lifters from Uzbekistan had won several medals at the World Track and Field Championships. Sorry Max, there are no weightlifting events at the World Track and Field Championsips. That error is fairly obvious - Track and Field is not Nuclear Physics - God knows what else he got wrong.

An elaborate, well-researched nuclear thrill ride!
I have never been a fan of counter-terrorist type international thrillers, but this novel's intricate plot of potential mass devastation at the Olympic Games is truly riveting. The author combined accessible technical direction with a clearly plausible plot and fallable yet magnetic characters. When coupled against the back drop of one of our most cherished international events, these "improvised nuclear devices" and "pure fusion" concepts are as staggering as they are sobering.

Excellent, fast moving, fictional account of Nuclear Terrori
Red Mercury; Book Review By C. L. Staten - ERRI Senior Analyst (ENN) Another in a series of several excellent counter-terrorist novels recently caught this author's eye and was quickly devoured by this inquiring mind. The book, "RED MERCURY", tells an increasingly more believable tale of fissile material stolen from the super-secret Soviet city of Chelyabinsk-65. It then follows the international trail of the atomic agent as it moves towards Atlanta and a nuclear attack on the Olympic Games. Along the way, we learn about the Nuclear Emergency Response Team (NEST) and our fictional former SpecOps leader, Mack McFall. Add a female karate back-belt as head of a special FBI CT "Javelin" HRU team and mix with some deranged and vindicative paramilitary bombers. Finally, factor in a frantic search for the possibility of a material called "Red Mercury," a pure fusion nuclear material, that could destroy Atlanta and a large part of the Eastern Seaboard. The book is filled with many authentic details (and some purposely fictionalized) about Atlanta, the Olympics and its security arrangements, and the nation's leading counterterrorist forces. It focuses on the fearsome possibility of the use of a improvised nuclear weapon of mass destruction (WMD), which contains the here before illusive "pure fusion" combination of radioactive materials that give it, its name, "RED MERCURY." The book, written by "Max Barclay", a believed pseudonym of an S. California investigative journalist, provides an extensive number of references and the names of resource persons who contributed to the effort. All in all, we would have to give it an A- and recommend it to members of the emergency, military, and intelligence community. Because of its fast pace, it admittedly is one of those books that you could pick up and find hard to put down until the dramatic ending.

Very Very Basic
This book assumes that you know nothing about any graphic user interface. If you know Win95 then you already know 90% of what is included in this book. To be fair there are some introductory Linux commands and user administration. I did not find the extensive use of screen shots to be helpful.

Ok book if you have Linux up and running already
This book is good only if you have Red Hat Linux 7 installed already, and everything working properly. The book is dedicated to the graphical interface: KDE and Gnome. If you have it all set up, then you're good to go and start learning. If, however, you don't, look elsewhere. The book does a poor job on how to install Red Hat Linux 7 and troubleshoot the installation and other problems. It assumes everything you did went smoothly. Overall I think if you need help navigating around Gnome/KDE, and aren't familiar with ANY Linux tool, then go for it.

If the "dummies" book loses you, get this one!
I bought the "dummies" book to linux and it lost me about half way through. Linux is so different to me and all the talk about so many filing systems put me to sleep. Bottom line is I didn't "get it" and wasn't getting any work done. Then I came across the fast and easy book. Sure it's very simple. Lots of pictures to follow along matching my screen to the screen to the book's pictures. I got a handle on the edge of linux. Now when I go back to the "dummies" book, it makes sense. If your having problems with this OS but really want to know what the fun is about, try this book first. Sometimes it's not the subject matter that's the problem, it's the writer. This writer was helpfull. But don't expect detailed help here with configuration.
