It was pretty good, consideing I don't laugh much. Some of the jokes actuly made me crack up! Few jokes do that. Most I just read and say corny, corny, corny. For example, this one I don't know f it was in there r not, but this was a no-laugh one. Knock Knock. Who's There? Lefty. Lefty Who? Lefty funny part out of thisjoke. Hahahaha. Not. I am not intertained easily, but this book brought some, ok, alot of smiles. I would recomend it!

This truly will tip over your personal barrel of monkeys. Filled with laughs on every page. Reading this will help you not only bring a small chuckle but help write your own jokes. Take this anwhere. Its quick comentary for any situation can't be beaten. This is a must have for the party entainer, party goer, or just for a few laughs around the house. I garuntee that you won't put it down. Even if you do it will just to applaud its insurmountable humor. Get it before you miss all the fun waiting for you in between the covers.

I have not read this particular book, but I did read 2,000 Sure Fire-Jokes for Speakers. It should be titled,"2,000 Ways to Get a Tomatoe Thrown at You or Jokes to say to Embarass Yourself at an Event". I'm serious. I would not recommend any of his books.

This book is published in 2000, but the jokes all read like they're from the 1950's. These jokes are insipid. Do yourself a favor and find something better. I'm returning my copy.

Orben has been around for quite a while. I don't know if anybody ever called him "the grandfather of humor," but it would apply. In the 50s and 60s he wrote a lot of booklets that helped comedians. In the 70s he switched to helping business people. And it certainly does take a comic genius to make some of those people funny. In fact, he was so good that a President of the United States requested his services (maybe more than one?) Somebody who is more 'comedian' oriented might not go for Orben these days. But he certainly has plenty of good things to tell the professional speakers and non-professional speakers. Anything negative about the book? I would have preferred a more workable Table of Contents and an Index. (But you don't get everything you want in life, do you?) But as my grammar school teacher used to say "use your ingenuity." So I numbered the pages of the Major Articles myself. Getting back to positives, a good poker player has to remember what cards were played and a good "funny man" has to remember what joke to tell. And I think Benjamin Franklin once said something like this: "You have to know when to be quiet, and you have to know the right moment to talk, and when you talk you have to know what to say." And not only did he say that, but he published many wise sayings, and epigrams, and maybe even jokes. Though they are getting a little old. But getting back to Orben, I gave him 4 stars. Maybe I should given him 5 stars, but I'm conservative.

I cannot believe how awful this book is. I've searched and searched for ANY jokes that make me laugh, to no avail. The best joke is the fact that I actually purchased the book to begin with. Don't be fooled by the title!

This reprint of a 1971 book is showing its age. A lot of jokes have context that the current reader can not know or relate to. I wonder if a lot of them were that good at the time. As a reference it may have current value when looking for a joke in a specific context. All the jokes are by subject. The only Sure Fire is to burn this book. It is fascinating to see what you can sell once you get a name. I have belatedly discovered that jokes books are not of much value in public speaking. At two jokes per penny it is more that twice as expensive than "3500 Good Jokes for Speakers by Gerald F Lieberman" See my review of that book.

I give it three stars since I've only read half the book. I've been puuting Orben's secrets to work already.
