the CATECHISM OF THE YEAR !
VERY INFORMATIVE CATECHISM ! Good for people to study
all the time....I am new to the faith and have to contstantly
pull something up and this book helps out. some things are little
old like the Mass but that is stuff that anyone can use some reason to delete through study......all the information covered is necessary for a well rounded faithful soul.
but its a 5 star book.
I recommend this catechism to everyone.
thanks for making the book availabe AMAZON.COM at a very
good price.

Beautiful, reverent, clear, orthodox
If there is one Catholic catechism I can recommend to the whole family, it's this one. The Catholic faith is explained clearly and beautifully in 193 sections that cover everything a Catholic needs to know in order to live his Faith to the fullest. Beautiful pictures and illustrations grace each section of this catechism, and easily understandable explanations clearly show what Catholics believe and why. In each section there is an abundance of quotes from the Holy Scriptures. This is a truly beautiful hardcover edition that's definitely worth the price. Should be in every Catholic household. Completely authoritative. Well indexed. Republished from the 1954 edition.

A Great Resource to True Roman Catholic Teaching
Unlike post vatican 2 catechisms and the novus ordo mess which have corrupted the Catholic Faith this book provides a true prospective on unerrant and uncorrupted Catholic teachings.
I would recommend this book for those interested in learning about or preserving their Catholic faith, outside of which there is no salvation.

The Generousity of a Great Mind
Emmanuel Levinas' books and articles are famously difficult reading, both because of their depth and because their themes, proposals and obessions manage to be breathtakingly against the grain of modernity and, simultaneously, postmodernity. This little book shows Levinas to be not only a great philosopher but also a good one--that is, an author genuinely concerned for his audience. In these transcribed interviews first broadcast on Radio-France, we meet Levinas the generous conversation partner who engages each question in a way that makes fresh understanding possible. Overhearing this conversation is the shortest route to a basic orientation to this wonderfully disorienting thinker.

Levinas in a Nutshell
The influence of Levinas on Contemporary thought cannot be under-estimated. Many of the subtle and overt nuances in Derrida, Nancy, Deleuze and, on this side of the Atlantic, Lingis and Caputo, derive from Levinasian insights. Indeed, the French reverence for difference and alterity has its origin in the phenomenological findings of Levinas.

With Levinas comes a dramatic shift from the Heideggarian cum Greek privilege of ontology. As levinas suggests, prior to any investigation of Being we first encounter the Other. And it is this encounter with the other that commands me - a command whose first words are 'Thou shalt not kill'. Thus it is ethics that is first philosophy.

This description, its reasons and implications, are many and complex. However, this wonderful little book gives a breadth and clarity that should prove invaluable to the scholar and dilettante alike. Nemo's questions are poignant and Levinas' responses are clear, precise and exhibit a genuine gentility and articulateness that is most apreciated in philosophical writings.

In addition this book is a wonderful accompaniment to Levinas' two main texts: Totality and Infinity and Otherwise than Being.

It is a brilliant introduction to Levinas' other works.
Levinas is one of the finest thinkers to step out of philosophy since Soren Kierkegaard. With this book and his interviews with Nemo, the reader can gain a basic understanding that will urge (h)er further along the trace that Levinas leaves in the history of thought. Read this book, and be drawn into thinking of the Other.

Fort Adams Tour Guide
A wonderfully written book that will interest anyone that has visited one, or more of the many old forts up and down the East Coast of the United States. This book will be extremely fascinating to anyone with the least bit of curiosity about old forts. The author is very knowledgable about the subject matter and does a brilliant job of conveying information in a way that makes it understandable to an amateur, while still being insightful to a professional in the field of coastal fortification history.

Must read for seacoast artillery historians
Ray Lewis has provided a super walk through the history of seacoast artillery in America. Nobody has done it better.

Ray Lewis's Home Run
In the thirty years since this book was published, one always hoped another would equal or surpass it. None has, or perhaps ever will. It is a marvelous history of the Forts along the American Seacoast, both Atlantic and Pacific, and even the Phillipines. Any Fort enthusiast MUST read this book. The author captures so much information, so many views, so much perspective in so few pages, the book is breathtaking. It is easily the finest book on its chosen subject, which is why it never goes out of print. If Forts interest you, Read it. Period.

The photographs from the author's collection, the army's files, the National Archives, etc. are worth its price. But the text, the clear delineation of the periods of Fort Building since 1794 in the US, and the differentiation of the periods, are so worth while.

Ray manages to be both terse, and pithy. It is a great tribute to any author to say that.

This is a MUST read for anyone interested in the subject, even one only interested in their own local Fort, and how it relattes to the defense plans of the United States when it was built.

There is NO better book to read on the subject. None.

Immensely Readable
Sister Emannuel has written an engaging update on the amazing Medjugorje story. Maybe some nuances are lost in translation but nevertheless this is a compelling sometimes humorous, sometimes sad, account of events. Sister Emanuel is a born communicator and having close access to the visionaries puts her in a key position.

medjugorje; the 90's
Super-excellent, inspiring; you'll laugh, you'll cry. Sister Emanuel is a great writer. If this doesn't convert you, nothing will. I have not read any book on Medjugorje better than this one.

Touching, inspiring. Info you can't get elsewhwere
I'm buying three more copies to give away. Sister Emmanuel lives in Medjugorje and knows the visionaries well. She has numerous stories to tell about what has happened, what it means and how the visionaries are responding. Info I haven't seen in other Medjugorje books. It makes you a believer. It inspires you in your own life. It is not a year-by-year historical account. It is a collection of stories about people who have come to Medjugorje and how their lives have changed. And much more.

Notes from the Warsaw Ghetto; The Journal of Emmanuel Ringelblum.

Historical Perspective on the Ghetto
This book presents a factual chronological statement on the conditions, daily tribulations, and perils of the Warsaw Ghetto. It is written in a documentary style rather than an emotional diary, thus providing a basis to compare and contrast against other "diaries". THIS SAID, it is a moving statement on Warsaw Jewry and their ability to overcome impossible odds, eventhough the overwhelming majority perished. The plethora of historical revisionists that now claim the Holocaust was a hoax must FIRST contend with "Notes"( aginst which they will lose). A truly powerful work.

Holocaust Horror
As we each sit in our little world each day perhaps having pity on ourselves. This book should be a guideline to keep us from self-pity. The author fairly reports from diaries gathered throughout the Holocaust Horror. He does not only blame Nazi Germans but Jewish Police. This is a bold, honest reflection into the eyes of children, adolescents, parents, as they were waiting for their fate. This book made me smile about humanitarism even when they truly did not have alot to share. This book made me scared for what the power of humans can do to weaken spirits. It made me cry to realize the horror they felt. I cheered hoping the author would go unharmed. I wept when I realized a man and his family perish because of a cause they firmly defended. True heroism.

Unquestionably, this is one of the best written books I have read pertaining to the tragic historic event. It is an easy reading book however, it is hard to put down once you start.

I will cherish my book always.

A must read for anyone interested in the subject
I "never" give a ten. But out of respect, this gets a ten. The author was executed by the Nazis after the Ghetto Uprising. The Notes were hidden, later found, and were assembled into a book.

Not only is this book invaluable as a source of historic perspective, it is a spellbinding book to read. I especially recommend this book to those non-Jews, like myself, whose understanding and respect for what happened needed some growth.

All the more erie, I read this book while walking the streets where it happened. You cannot help but be deeply moved by this book, its story, and its people.

I urge anyone with the slightest interest to push Amazon to get it for you. I have bought two copies, it takes time, but they can do it. It is worth the effort.

Scarcely updated, but still superb
The reviews of the first edition were glowing, and rightly so because this is a superb book. Tov is a world authority in his subject, and has the ability to explain his complex technical subject with great lucidity. This second edition is, however, almost a page for page reprint of the first edition and has only a few small revisions. This is disappointing, and we look forward to a more thoroughly revised third edition in the next few years. Anyone with a first edition need not bother with this one. However, everyone else with more than a beginner's interest in the subject should buy this book now.

The best in its field
It is a long time since a decent book on Old Testament textual studies appeared. Classics like those by Ginsburg and B J Roberts are largely obsolete and anyway almost impossible to obtain. There are some brief introductions around, but they do not begin to match the depth and erudition of this book. Tov is a brilliant scholar, and one of the World's leading authorities on the Septuagint and the Dead Sea scrolls, so he is well qualified to write this book.

A Tremendous Biblical Study Source
This is the best source for factual information about the Tanakh (Old Testament) on the market. It is an absolute "must" book for every serious student of the Bible. Professor Tov covers the history of the Bible, its copying and transmission, and many of the textual problems. He pays a great deal of attention to the evolution of the Masoretic texts and their differences. Dr.Tov's experience as a professor at Hebrew University and Editor-in-Chief of the Dead Sea Scrolls publication project makes him uniquely qualified to write about the Hebrew Bible. If you want the facts, this is the book for you. This is a featured book at our site - INTERNETBIBLE.COM.

Amazing - TE's the man!
This books blows me away, nothing too hard to get started, nothing too easy to get bored with. Great artist and song background. Highly recommended. Handy spiral bound. Good quality CD. Also, if you haven't checked him out live, DO SO! Travel night and day if you must!

Very worth to have own, if you like the fingerstyle,
This is not the some of Tommy's music note or Tab book.
It's his biographical book with his sprit of guitar playing and life. The Tab of this book is not easy to follow for beginners, but it has good tips and lessons you might remember all times.
The CD in this book has nicely recored and it's important to listen before you practice the notes.
This book is not good for the first time guitar player or just have some Tab of Tommy's, but if you want to step to some other level of your guitar playing, it has very much value to buy one.

A model for guitar instruction.
This book is absolutely phenomenal. I hesitated buying it for so long because there were no reviews on it and I did not know what to expect, but Tommy is such a fantastic guitarist that I bit the bullet and ordered. That was a great decision, because this book is a model for how instruction books should be written and presented. Starting with a brief biography on Tommy, it also includes brief bios on guitarists that influenced him and why they did (e.g. Atkins, Travis, Reinhardt). The book starts off with easy thumbstyle exercises for the absolute beginner, but includes difficult sections on cascading harmonics, moving bass lines, and the like. Each section includes not only music (which can be heard on the accompanying CD, complete with verbal explanations from Tommy himself)but also narrative explanations and performance notes. The book closes with suggested listening (for the aforementioned artists that influenced Tommy)and watching (e.g. other instructional videos).

The music is excellent in its variance, i.e. from the very simple to the very complex. It includes some of Tommy's own compositions, but also several arrangements of other songs guitarists would love to add to their repetoire ("Day Tripper/Lady Madonna," "Blue Moon" and "A Taste of Honey," all of which include moving basslines that sound fantastic). Even the spiral binding is great, making it very easy to set up on your music stand, without the need for page-holders. The sole complaint about this book is the fact that the transcriptions come from one of Tommy's instructional videos, while the CD is recorded specially for the book, meaning they don't always match. This is such a minor issue that it's hardly worth mentioning.

Guitarists need this book! If only other teachers would follow this format.

An incredible and enlightening view of the Bible
If you are looking for a deeper message in the Bible this book is where you will find it! The stories of the Bible are explained in a practical and sensible way. The depth, breadth, and continuity of Swedenborg's writings has elevated him into the top 3 IQ's of all time. Worth the effort!

The Third Testament of the Word of God.
Arcana Coelestia is part of what is considered the third testament of the Word of God. It is the biggest of the books written by (or through, if you prefer) Emmanuel Swedenborg. Collectively these books are all called "The Writings". To Swedenborgians, "The Word" is "The Writings", and the Holy Bible combined. "The Word" is the foundation of The Church of the New Jerusalem, or the Swedenborgian Church, or just "The New Church". If you try to read this book, and can't, try: 1. Conjugial Love 2. True Christian Religion 3. Heaven and Hell 4. The New Church Website. These are all easier options that will still lead to the same place.

Constitutional Law

Concise, thorough, accurate
I bought the Emanuel for property and liked it so much I got this one and the one for substantive criminal law. While I didn't use the crim law one so much (terrific prof), this was absolutely indispensable. We had so much reading in that class that there was no way I could have (a) understood it all on my own or (b) had time to read Tribe or any other hornbook, helpful as they may be.

As with all the Emanuels, this one is organized very well, packing a lot of info in and still making it readable. I recommend periodically surveying the summarized outline at the beginning; then look up your assigned cases in the index and read enough to give you a feel for the issues before you read the cases. Unless your prof is going for breadth and not depth, you won't get through half of this bad boy, but what you do cover will be in here.

Best of all, this supp is very accurate. I regularly brought it to class to refer to, and I thought I had stolen my prof's lecture notes. It clarifies ambiguous doctrines, while appropriately throwing up its hands when commenting on the Court's stance would be guesswork.

I hear all sorts of great things about Tribe, but this was the bomb for me, a lot cheaper and more versatile.

BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANNA PASS CON LAW NOW!!!
Emanuel once again proves to be the savior for law students. This outline takes otherwise convolted ideas (i.e. the equal protection clause, freedom of speech, and justiciability to name a few) and presents them in a very readable bullet-point fashion, pinpoint accuracy and with crystal clear clarity. This outline will become a surrogate for your text, classes and even your professor. (I know it was for me). This is a "must-buy" for all law students. Buy this book NOW!!!

The Amazing Secret of the Souls in Purgatory: An Interview with Maria Simma

Vivid Description of Purgatory
"The Amazing Secret of the Souls in Purgatory" by Sister Emmanuel of Medjugorje. Book's subtitle is "An Interview With Maria Simma". Queenship Publishing company, Goleta, CA 1997.

This is a very short (58 pages) book, relating the interview of Maria Simma, a devout Catholic, who, for many years, has visits from the souls in Purgatory. These souls will ask Maria Simma to have prayers said for them: a Mass, or a Rosary, or the Stations of the Cross. The author, Sister Emmanuel, interviewed Maria Simma through an interpreter, and," for the sake of brevity and clarity" (page 3), Sister Emmanuel summed up some of Maria's answers.

This book is not a summary of the Church's doctrine on the issue of Purgatory. Rather, the book recounts the answers of Maria Simma to the questions asked by Sister Emmanuel. That Maria Simma has been visited by the souls from Purgatory is confirmed by incidents (not fully documented in this book) of a deceased person relating details to Maria Simma, and her telling the family of the deceased these details. Maria would have all the details concerning the field, or the exact amount of money, or the property and..."the family would be staggered to discover that she knew all these details". (p. 38)

For anyone wanting to discover what Purgatory is like, this small book gives a description of that place by one woman who has had visions for most of her life. Maria must be approaching her 90s, since she was listed as 82 in the year of publication (1997).

The last few pages are a call to prayer for the souls in Purgatory by the author, Sister Emmanuel. The book is well worth the small price, and ... delivered the book quickly.

Great insight on Purgatory - must read!!
This was the 3rd book I have read on Purgatory. It was very easy to read & it provided several insights that the other books didn't mention. It was so captivating, I read the book in one sitting. The interview format was easy to read and very inspiring. Great book!!

A short read, well worth your time!
This short little book takes no more than an hour or two to read, but it is packed with good information. In addition to showing how important it is to pray for the deceased, it shows how merciful God truly is. Even the most hardened sinner can be saved if he has some small amount of repentance before death. Sin doesn't send people to Hell, impenitence does. Highly recommended.
