I Can't Agree More With All The Rest of You....
I read this book so many years ago (I'm 46) and yet I've never forgotten it! I just told my daughter who is an avid reader, about this remarkable book and the remarkable woman who wrote it and my 8 year old daughter now wants to read it, too!
I can't believe the price at [$$$]! Doesn't that tell you something? Please get this book BACK IN PRINT. So many would value from its entrancing images, telling words.

The best book ever
The Romance Of Atlantis is a really good book, i love reading stories of mythical places. This book made me become an Atlantis fannatic. I give it the highest rating. You should read it!

Incredible
If you've ever read any of Taylor Caldwell's works, you have likely recognized pure genius. But this book takes the cake. She wrote The Romance of Atlantis at the age of twelve, yet it is amazing in its intuitive sence of a world unimaginable to a child in the early 1910's. Perhaps Caldwell really did live in Atlantis at one time...

The Search For A Soul: Taylor Caldwell's Psychic Lives

You are your soul
While in medical school I realized the body is nothing without the soul and started reading about the soul being the intricate part of you. While the body changes, the soul continues with you as seen by Ms. Caldwell's experiences. Why do you recognize certain places and dislike certain people? Is deja vu an imprint from a past life? That is with what this book tantalizes us.A completely objective evaluation of Ms.Caldwell's past lives lets us to think that we are a compilation of our past.

Fascinating, whether you believe in reincarnation or not
Jess Stearn and Taylor Caldwell were friends. They shared the same literary agent. At the opening of this book they were at a social gathering and debated the premise of reincarnation. Taylor Caldwell stated flatly that she didn't believe in it. Stearn admitted he was skeptical as well. Hence, their search for the soul began -- Stearn full of enthusiasm, Caldwell full of doubt and denial. Jess Stearn took Taylor Caldwell to a hypnotist and lo and behold, the skeptic Taylor Caldwell told of the many lives she lived, all revealed over numerous hypnosis sessions. I won't say much more (don't want to spoil it for you), but I will tell you that this was a fascinating (and fun) read. Jess Stearn's skillful writing makes you feel like an old friend is sitting with you telling you a story. This book is very much worth your time and energy to read. Don't miss it.

Spooky
I read this book twice a number of years ago and the thought that this can possibly be true is very spooky!

Outstanding research
This is an extremely well researched book regarding the African-American film industry, which is a very neglected area of the business. I highly recommend it.

informative and smart
This book chronicles the evolution of Black Film and Black people in films from the racist depiction of Blacks in Griffith's Birth of a Nation through the Black Diaspora to Spike Lee.

A great read

W-O-W!
Jake Green was a US Navy Seaman. He was caught up in a battle front advance in the Korean War. Even though he had never trained for battlefield duties, the Marines assigned him as a radioman and gunfire spotter with a forward echelon unit led by Captain John "Silvertip" Silvers. The unit became surrounded and held out for five days with heavy battle situations. There were only a few survivors.

When Green returned to his ship he was told that the situation he had been in had never occurred. Green, and a select few others he had never met before, were sent back to the United States for "special training" and Detachment X-Ray was formed. This secret organization had a chain of command that reached back to the White House. The members never knew where they their mission would be until they got there, nor what their mission would entail.

Only mission was important!
Trust no one!

***** W-O-W! I cannot express how wonderful this book is! You have to read it to believe it. The author managed to show how awful war could be, as well as, how far a person would go when pushed beyond their limits. The author injected military humor even during the survival training sections. Highly recommended reading! *****

Detachment X-ray
DETACHMENT X-RAY
By Jess parker

Reviewer: Margaret Chapman

Review
Detachment X-Ray offers a look inside a covert government operation that begins during the Korean War and continues through recent history. The first part of the book is interesting and builds steadily, though it falters slightly in the middle and relies heavily on old clichés of fighting 'communists.'

Those would be the things I didn't care for though. Author Jess Parker draws heavily on his own experiences in the US Navy to give the story an authentic feel. In many cases I was drawn into the story enough to forget everything and become engrossed in the plot. The story will take you through a series of emotions from fear to rejoicing, back to fear and onward to disgust and find yourself pulled deeper into the web Jess Parker so masterfully weaves with his main character Jake Green,

Former military men, conspiracy theorists and lovers of a good thriller will all enjoy this book. Overall it was good read with very few flaws to interrupt a great performance by the author.

Survival of the tougest!
With all the current rage over the popular "Survivor" series on tv, Detachment X-Ray delivers over 100% on the lifestyles of "real" survivors of the military kind. This novel is fast paced, readable, humorous, disgusting, and heartwarming. Not a book for just service people, it has much to give to any and all readers who value the freedoms most take for granted. Detachment X-Ray goes behind the scenes of a man's life and all he "survived." Barbecued rats, turnips, and raw rabbit are just a few of the tasty meals included in this amazing tale of true grit, for sure. Two thumbs way up!

This book is scary and cool.
This is a cool story about Remi DuMont who is a 13 year old boy from Haiti who has just moved with his mom and dad to Oakland California. On his very first night in tha spooky old house he wakes up after midnight to see a steam train roll by his window like a huge fire breathing monster. There is a lot of noise and smoke but tha next morning he finds out that his mom and dad did not hear anything! Neither did anybody else who lives in tha house. Not the strange old landlady who lives on tha dark and creepy 3rd floor, or tha cool homegirl Niya (also 13) who lives with her mom on tha ground floor. Remi and Niya hookup on their way to school and become friends. Niya has never seen or heard tha ghostly train in tha night even though she and her mom have lived in tha house for years. But she believes that tha house is haunted because she gets creepy feelings from down in tha basement. Niya and Remi get together to try and solve this mystery. They find out that a man was murdered on tha ghost train about 50 years ago. Because Remi is from Haiti and knows about Voodoo he is 'sensitive' to ghosts. Like all of Jess Mowry's books this one is on tha real and very exciting to read. And he drops a lot of information that tells you he knows tha people and things he is writing about. I like tha way so many things in this book are told on tha side, like some of Remi's old life in Haiti as a street kid which makes him feel sorry for poor kids in tha U.S.A. I also like tha way you learn about black history and Voodoo when you read this book. It is also a very 'ghetto' and on tha real story full of on tha real people and kids. The story also makes sense on tha ghost real and tha ending is just right. Even if you never read a ghost story before I think you will like this one. Read it late at night.

A kickin' ghost and time-travel book!!!
This was my first experience in reading a Jess Mowry book and after I finished this one I went out and bought all of the others! I read a lot of ghost stories but this is one of the few with Black characters and settings I could really relate to. But I think that people and kids of any color would love this book if they like supernatural tales. This one has got it ALL! I wish I could give it TEN STARS!

Get reintroduced to your own heart.
Jess, you've done it again! In a world that causes us to develop calloused veneers to hide our hearts behind, you have offered a medicine chest of little "daily pills" that we can easily take, anytime of day or night, and dissolve away the contaminates and refresh the pliableness that brings back the joy and tears of our emotions. In "God, if you have a plan for my life..." we see the very heart of Christ Himself, revealed through the lives of real people and told as only Jess Moody can tell their stories. Jess, may you live long and write often.

Gifted Storyteller rings up five stars
Jess Moody, like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going and going, telling great stories. I have been privileged to hear Jess Moody speak. He is not simply a preacher; he is an orator. His oratorical skills and artistry are transmitted to the pages of a book through the writing of "God, If You Have A Plan For My Life, Where Were You Last Thursday?" He paints beautiful stories with the pen. Some of the stories will bring a tear to the reader's eye or a lump in the throat, others will evoke a smile or a burst of laughter. Whatever the response, the reader will become so engrossed in the stories that reading the book will not leave one unaffected or unchanged. Each story is only a brief page or two and can be read in bits and pieces over days. However, I became so enchanted by each story, I couldn't wait a day or two to read on. I nearly finihed the book in one sitting. I've read other books by Jess Moody. This one is his best!

Hate Crime: The Global Politics of Polarization (Elmer H. Johnson and Carol Holmes Johnson Series in Criminology)
Published in Hardcover by Southern Illinois Univ Pr (Trd) (1998)
Authors: Robert J. Kelly and Jess Maghan
Amazon base price: $45.00

globalizing hate
First of all, since the political campaigns have been raging in the media, we have heard a lot about hate crimes. The category of hate crime however, is restricted to personal violence, as it is commonly understood to mean. This book broadens the concept by globalizing the notion of hate. In lieu of today's developments and some other notable global crimes, such as genocides (i.e., Rwanda, Bosnia) this type of macro approach to the etiology of crime seems highly relevant and necessary. What I found particularly noteworthy is the multiple-point stances and perspectives of the various authors. Such a diverse representation of opinions, I thought, added to the overall purpose and strength of the book.

The chapter on Colin Ferguson approached explanation by using Franz Fanon's theory of violence. The author does successfully incorporate the major tenets of his theory in his explanation, there were some questions I thought would be relevant to the discussion. For example, Sartre, in writing the preface to Fanon's book, concurred with Fanon in stating that the native, repressed in his hatred toward his colonizers, is apt to act more violently against his native man. I was not sure if such was the case with Ferguson. Perhaps, if there had been instances in which he did act out against "his people" it would strengthen the argument more.

Rage, anger, madness as manifestation of creativity and freeing force in the subject's double bind is a topic worthy of further exploration. I am looking forward to the author developing this idea in his further works.

I enjoyed the differing perspective on the nature of hate. By charting the macro origins of conflict, I think the book sheds insight as to the micro dimensions of hate crime as it presently finds form today.

Hate Crime
The recent brutal beating and murder of a gay Wyoming student points out but one aspect of the type of hate crimes whuch in most countries of the world. In Hate Crimes: The Global Politics of Polarization professor Jess Maghan and Robert J. Kelly have brought together an excellent collection of essays which hit the problem head-on. The editors contributions add to the book, especially the article on the Ku Klux Klan by Kelly and Maghan's well researched annotated bibliography on the subject. The book includes essays on black rage and victimization; neo-nazis and skinheads; homeless Palestinians and the Arab world; hate crime in India; and the victimization of street children in Colombia. Of particular interest are several pieces on the historical aspects of hate crime, and the development of legislative efforts to cope with what is percived as a growing area of concern in criminal justice. Maghan, who is an associate professor of criminal justice at the university of illinois at chicago, and Kelly, who is a Broeklundian professor of social science at Brooklyn College and a professor of criminal justice at the Graduate School of the City University of New York are well respected authors in the area of hate crime, and in this book they have made a significant contribution to understanding the international dimensions and manifistations of hatred and brutality.

Great Story
This was one of the best books I've ever read....I heard stories about Oklahoma through my great grandma, and my grandma, but this book just validates those stories...and for a real treat I recommend the sequel to this book "Sons of Thunder".

It Deserved More Than 5 Stars!
I thought this book was more than excellent. I don't read much but this book was one that I could not put down until I finished it. I think it would make a great movie script! If you want to relive the Great Depression Era through a small boy's eyes you need to read this one. The author, Bonnie S. Speer, knows how to write. I have read other books she's written.

Do you want to read a book that is both easy and interesting
If you do, read Dear Napoleon, I Know Your Dead, But.... It is about a kid
and his best friend, Russell. Russell and Marty have to figure out how Marty can write to
famous dead people and get letters back! Would you believe your friends if they did the same? I think that everyone should read this book because it is simply great.

Very Authentic
The kid in this story was different. He wanted to write to a historical figure rather than a sports star or musician--very unique for a kid's book. The book was interesting and I related to Martin because he was different than other kids. I highly reccommend this book to people who like history and have different perspectives. This was an excellent read--highly reccommended.

A touching read... Not what I expected!
I noticed this book at a book fair in fifth grade, and brought it home, expecting (because of the title) a ludicrous, laugh-inducing romp through history. What I got instead was a touching, sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad book that had me fairly glowing with pleasure after I finished it.

This is definetely a worthwhile read, and a good buy. :-)

An excellent read
I recently started reading Connie Mason novels. The first one I read was The Dragon Lord, which was amazing. I then read this novel, and although it was very good, it wasn't as satisfing as The Dragon Lord. I do recommend this novel, but I highly recommend The Dragon Lord. This one just wasn't as exciting as The Dragon Lord. But anyways, both novels are very good!!

I could not put it down
This is one of Connie's best. the romance relationship between Meg and Jess is absolutely amazing. It was really good how all through the book they were together, except when Megs past catches up to her.
The love scenes were fantastic and it is really great to see the brotherly love the Jess has for his two brothers Rafe and Sam.
If you come by this book read it then read the trilogy. They are all fantastic. I read this book in two days and i loved every minute of it. It is a KEEPER!!!!

Another wonderful book
Well this is another book by one of my favorite authors. Connie Mason's books are all keepers! I have read and reread them all several times. I loved the Outlaws series. These brothers are great. This book is about Jess, the Doctor. He is on the run along with his brothers from the law after being falsely accused of robbing a bank. He comes across a female bounty hunter, Meg, who is determined to bring him in. How this story unravels is quite funny and very touching. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone.
