Awesome, 10 stars
Nothing else can compare to the great quality of story, characters and action. If you read one of these books, you will not rest until you manage to get and read the rest. There is nothing that can top these books, nothing.Enjoy my friend.

Action/adventure novel concerning Modesty Blaise
The Silver Mistress is one of several books about Modesty Blaise and her faithful companion Willie Gravin. Modesty is a self-made millionaire (gained when she led a criminal network in her early 20s). She and Willie retired but found the quiet life didn't appeal and among other things, took jobs for the British Intelligence network. They are both experts in martial arts along with other various skills (lock picking, flying, parachuting, etc.)

Silver Mistress concerns their actions to rescue Tarrant (head of Brit Intel and friend) from a gang of blackmailers. It contains one of the best fight sequences ever written, from whence the title comes. Modesty versus the bad martial artist.

While this little review leaves so much unsaid, it is better than none at all. It is an excellent book -- one I've reread several times and if you like action books or female heroes, you can't miss it or any other Modesty Blaise books. Jim Kajpust

Female James Bond, with all the gadgets, plus a sidekick!
Looking for a new twist on the Spy/Adventure story? Well here it is, at it's shapely best! Modesty & her sidekick/partner, Willie are off into danger once again, this time to save the life of an old friend. Peter O'Donnell has really outdone himself, in this tale of intrigue, gadgetry, & oneupmanship! This tale is lighthearted and sexy throughout, but still leaves your stomach in a knot as the action continually gets hotter until the unexpected climax. Try it! You'll love it! I did

Modesty To The Rescue
Once upon a time, long ago, Modesty Blaise met Willie Garvin - and a couple Kingsley Amis reckoned to be the best criminal double act since Holmes and Watson began their adventures.
Although one of the latter Modesty books, this begins with the story of how Willie joined forces with Modesty, and how this adventure reflects forward.
All the best Peter O'Donnell characteristics are here: memorable villains, fast action, a whirling story of courage, class, strength, spirit and old fashioned human resource: it is these core elements that stop the Modesty books from dating.
Modesty and Willie are real people, action heroes with real human character and vulnerability, and in this one Modesty has to save Willie from capture and [mental torture] on a lonely island in a tale with plenty of twists and turns of high readability.
These are people books; technology does not take over, the characters are all good, even the most minor, and O'Donnell writes with a spare, humorous style that has zest and energy.
Read one of these books and find out what has made, and kept, Modesty Blaise books such a cult for 40 years.
The fights, the friendships, the finesse and the fine style make an un-putdownable book that remains, despite re-reading, one of my favourites in the 11 title series.

Modesty is a Female James Bond!!!
Too bad I found out about Modesty too late! All of these books are out of print. Modesty is a female James Bond type of gal with a mysterious past and a lot of dangerous skills. I love her interaction with Willie Garvin and the various aspects of her character that allow her to cold-bloodedly kill when necessary and have compassion at other times! Of course, these books are a bit dated with technology, but then many of them were written in the 60's. I'd like to see these back in print!

Best of a good series
I loved the Modesty Blaise tales when they came out in the Sixties and seventies. All were good. I loved the interaction between Modesty and Willie. (By the way, anyone else notice the similarities with Skilly and Two-knife in Jerry Pournelle's stories of Falkenberg's Legion?) The other characters, including Modesty's and Garvin's love interests, were also interesting and well drawn, (although some of Willie's girls were a bit over the top). I Lucifer has one of the more interesting plots; a young man who can predict death with almost 90% accuracy, and thinks he is Satan, and the villains who take control of him for monetary gain. O'Donnell always had good villains for Modesty and Willie to foil, and this tale takes all their wits and skills. A good action spy-thriller with a horror/occult twist...

I have loved every Modesty Blaise book I have read.
Peter O'Donnell writes books that grab you by the throat and don't let go. 'I Lucifer' is a classic Modesty Blaise adventure, with pulse-pounding action and hair raising danger on every page. Don't believe that this is dated stuff - Modesty could Bond out of business without breaking a sweat!

Excellent Book!! Peter O'donnell does it again!
I first got hooked on the Modesty Blaise series when an aunt left her copy of Modesty Blaise. Then the newspaper series followed but I didn't think about collecting other books until I saw the books were available at Amazon and other auction sites like [local store]. I loved the Night of the MorningStar. It is written in good style showing the beginning relationship between Modesty and Willie that always intrigued me. The suspense is incredible and the only thing that took me by surprise is the lengthy layout of the book (lead-up to final plot takes a long time)which is different to other Modesty Blaise books that I have read.

Great excellent book, every Modesty fan should have one!!!!

Blaise of Glory
Modesty and Willie are back, with the simple task of saving the Western World from chaos and destruction. A man from Modesty's past comes back to haunt the dynamic duo, but with the help of the intrepid Steve Collier and brave but blind Dinah Modesty and Willie come out on top. Of course, it's not easy, things go wrong and until the last page is turned there's every chance that it'll all go pear-shaped, but the attraction of O'Donnell's writing is that you can KNOW that the good guys will win, but he keeps you guessing as to how and when. Not an easy book to come by, like most Modesty titles now, but well worth the trouble to find.

The only Modesty I like
Another fantastic adventure. The twist here is that she is on the inside (kidnapped) trying to get out of an impossible trap rather than trying to infiltrate one. Probably her most memorable adventure and the one she would like most to forget (considering what she had to go through).

God's love for us: the surprising focus of the Catechism
"I am the way, the truth and the life," Jesus says in John 14:6. That is what I expect to find in any Catholic catechism: the way - the how of being Catholic, the truth - the set of beliefs that the catechumen or candidate will ascribe to, the life - the promises that will belong to the baptized person as a result of belief and practice. And I am not disappointed in finding it in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. What the surprise is in the Catechism is that Jesus shows us the love of God. How reassuring to read the focus of the Catechism as "love that never ends."

However, though the Catechism begins with that statement in #25, it is easy to overlook it in the press of understanding the doctrines and the rules and the rituals. An interested non-Christian, concerned with the infrastructure of the church where he or she is considering membership, might easily miss the centrality to everything Catholic of the love that God has for His creatures. Most non-Christian religions do not have this emphasis or focus of love. Even the table of contents and titles of the sections of the Catechism itself move quickly to the creed, cult, and codes of Catholicism.

A catechist, instructing other Christians in the differences and similarities between Catholicism and various Protestant creeds and practices, might easily state this fundamental truth of God's love and then move quickly into the teaching of the faith, the handing down of specifically Catholic theology, practice, information, etc. A focus or emphasis on the personal love that God has for each of us is important and needs to be maintained in the presentation of all doctrine, all aspects of the Catholic practice. And that is what this little book reminds its reader.

It is pleasant, reassuring and uplifting to read on the dust cover of this book "The key to the Catechism is the mystery of the triune God - 'the love that never ends.'" As a focused and well-prepared instructor, even as a prayer warrior concerned about my students, interested in providing the right environment and content for conversion, I find it tempting to divert from catechesis on God's love in each of the pillars of the Catechism. Will the baptism or profession of faith of the new Catholic-to-be be properly supported by understanding of doctrine and rituals; will there be enough practice in prayer, sufficient support by intercessor and sponsor and godparent? However, it is not this re-presentation of the catechetical truths and codes that will save, nor even the support the faith of, the potential Catholic.

This book reminded me of the great need to echo the voice of Christ as He has spoken to His Church. The inner comparison, taking place within the inquirer, between Christ's voice and grace within himself or herself and the catechesis of Christ's voice within the setting of the Church, is the process of conversion. Recognizing the Shepherd's voice as the voice of love as well as way-truth-life will empower the inquirer toward conversion and prepare the soul for the joy of communion.

What indeed can a catechism offer for Catholics if not the universality of love of God? Surely, other creeds are easier to live, there are less codes to follow, less difficulties in being what that church might call "holy." The very love of God in calling us to live His very life is distinct and different from every other faith. It is, after all, union with Christ in His Church, in a common union with all the holy human saints of history, that is being offered in a Catholic conversion. Not a lifestyle, not a set of beliefs, not a set of practices. Nothing less than union in love with Love itself. That changes the focus of presenting Catholicism to an inquirer to "courting the catechumen" - we are proposing a marriage to the inquirer, through the truth, the way and the life outlined in the Catechism. That reminder throughout the book is what moved me as I read it.

As good as the Books
I have only recently come to appreciate the comic strip series of Modesty, although I have been a long time fan and collector of the full-length books! I love a liberated woman and Willie Garvin is the best. I think the drawings are spectacular and give vision to the novels I know by heart.

The best of the best!
Long an admirer of Peter O'Donnell's creation Modesty Blaise, this is my favorite of his books. Willie Garvin is his usual funny, deadly self and Steve Collier was never better. The story involves pearl-diving, kidnapping, murder, sword-fights, esp, and buried treasure. The villain, Simon Delicata, gives me the shivers -- and his fight with Willie was a remarkable piece of writing. Everytime I think about this book, I wish O'Donnell hadn't retired.
