Delightful! Humorous! Touching!
Who would have thought having those forgetful, sometimes embarrassing, senior moments could be so much fun--at least when they happen to someone else. I thoroughly enjoyed Karen O'Connor's depiction of the delightful roller coaster ride we take in the process of becoming "blessed with many years." Her humorous and sometimes touching stories provide models of how we can greet our advancing years with a philosophical attitude and a wry smile. Her comments and prayers at the end of each story help us put it all into perspective.
Delightful!
Karen O'Connor's new book is a gem. I found myself laughing out loud, nodding and then relaying her quips and common sense with friends and family. I've always enjoyed Ms. O'Connor's other books, but this is the best yet. It's also a book to share. Buy one for yourself and give 'em as presents "just because." That's what I'm going to do.
One terrific gal and author in 1 package!!!
Karen has the knack to make every reader smile and feel better about some of those uncertain moments as we age!! I know her personally and not only does she write with a special creative talent, she lives her words. This makes a great gift for birthdays and any other special occassions. It will sure help make my Christmas list easier.

Basket of Blessings reaches into your heart and wakes it up!
Karen O'Connor has found a way to tug at your heart strings in this one. She shows why it's so important to be thankful for each day, each passing moment, each breath of air, drop of rain, ray of sunshine. Basket of Blessings walks you through the steps to having a more grateful heart. Each day, you read a short anecdote expressing Karen O'Connors gratitude, tales that open your heart and prepare it for the love and gratitude in your own life. Then she shows you Bible passages that lift the soul to God in gratitude. Answer her questions regarding the gratitude you feel in your heart. These questions focus your attention on things you might have overlooked, things that you might take for granted, things you might never have thought of. Keep a little "basket of blessing", things you are grateful for. Add to it every day, she'll point you in the right direction. Before you know it, you'll be finding things on your own. Things you are grateful for. Things that open your heart in a new way. Soon you'll feel better about yourself and the life you have. You'll find yourself finding the good in most situations, and feeling good about it. Close each day with a heartfelt prayer, and you are well on your way. In less than 31 days you'll open your heart and your soul to the life you want, the life of peace, the life of love and of gratitude.

The Original Columbia Plateau
As exemplified in song by Woodie Guthrie when he extolled the virtues of the great dams on the Columbia River and the subsequent development of irrigated agriculture, man's focus on the Columbia Plateau has been on how it can serve him. Now a new book has emerged that explores the geology, soils, flora and fauna of the region and its shrub-steppe ecosystems. This book serves as primer for all who would seek to understand these natural systems...a starting point for further exploration, both on the ground and in the regional libraries. The book is a gentle reminder of the natural richness of this region and the need to preserve the remaining habitat for future generations so that the land can continue to serve man, but in a different way, enriching our lives through the knowledge that soils derived from the harsh reality of volcanic eruption in conjunction with simple associations of grasses and shrubs can form the basis for a complex and enduring living system.

Wonderful, easy, delicious!
This is absolutely the best guide for preparing fresh vegetables! I love to cook, and I love to eat, but I'm always too busy. This cookbook gives me LOTS of quick recipes (from main dishes to salads and sides) that are consistently delicious. I'm a nurse and nutritionist, so being able to see the nutritional analysis of each recipe is a nice bonus.

This book has inspired me to become more alert to life.
I enjoyed this book because of its fast-paced reading--just 10-15 minutes a day, and the insight the author provides for how to experience and share spontaneous joy with others--regardless of life's circumstances. There are gifts of joy even behind the pain in our lives.

Finally, Someone Who Understands
Reading This book has been the most helpful thing I have done in my 30 year search for help with compulsive spending. It has understanding, advice and I recc'md it to everyone who has or loves someone with this condition. I only wish my husband and I had it 15 years ago. Thanks to Karen O'Connor.

An Excellent, Updated Survey of the Women's Movement
This just-updated history of the women's movement is an excellent introduction to the field. The book surveys the 150-year history of the movement and provides lots of good-looking graphs and tables of the current situation.
I use this book in my 2000-level course on race, gender and politics and find it very readable for my mostly 1st- and 2nd-year students. The students like the book as well.
If you want a well-organized, readable, and current survey of the movement and the current status of women in America, I wholly recommend this book.
