My 2 year old loves it!
Rebus is the way to go :) She really enjoys "reading" with me interactively with this book and is now 3. This book has inspired me to get more rebus books. We are not the type to force-feed alphabet or numbers (symbols) to her but reading rebus is an entirely different medium. :)

Basic Interactive Fun for Preschoolers
My daughter received this book when she was just about to turn 1. She loved looking at all the brightly colored pictures and could easily identify objects when asked. Now that she is 15 months, she can turn the wheel herself and is starting to choose the right items for each page. I highly recommend this book because it isn't battery-powered or full of bells and whistles - just basic reading fun!

A very cute book for Easter Time!
I like this book a lot. I bought this for my son, 18 months. I like Corduroy a lot and so does my son. This is a fun book to read as you can do a lot with the child whilst reading it (ie) you can pretend to be a slide with your legs, you can sing "rain rain go away" and much more. It's a fun book and the illustration is simply great with dolly and bunny. My son loves is, so do I!

Spooky stories that are perfect for new readers!
If your younger elementary aged child is looking for a spooky thrills, this is a great book to buy. The well written stories are very suspenseful and mysterious. Another great collection of spooky stories for beginning readers is I DARE YOU! STORIES TO SCARE YOU! by Kathleen Keeler (Scholastic, 1999). Working in the public schools, I've discovered that even children who are struggling with reading, gobble up these two exciting books.

Hidden arrows, Poisoned King, and Buried Treasure!
Rich with exciting historical details, The Emperor's Silent Army: Terracotta Warriors of Ancient China by Jane O'Connor offers a well-researched book that tantalizes the reader with tales of a poisoned King, a camouflaged dead body, and a booby-trapped tomb. The targeted audience of ages 9-12 will thrill with the adventure while simultaneously profiting from their newfound knowledge of China's first Emperor, Qin Shihuang, and his war and burial customs. Heavily strewn with color photographs, computer images, maps, drawings, and charts, the book easily captures interest and successfully holds attention with its succinct wording and short chapters that directly complement the images.
Jane O'Connor's career spanning roles as editor-at-large, president of mass market children's books at Penguin, and prolific author is crowned by her most recent gem, The Emperor's Silent Army: Terracotta Warriors of Ancient China. Realizing that no children's books had thoroughly documented the world wonder discovered in China, O'Connor successfully fills the void. This book is a must for any library!
The only negative aspect is that the book fails to be part of a larger history series since once the book is read, the reader will want to read more. The detailed bibliography and author's note provide a scope for further reading on the Terracotta Warriors, but readers will long to learn the same concise and tantalizing information on other subjects as well! Hopefully, Jane O'Connor will follow with more books to engage children and adults since The Emperor's Silent Army: Terracotta Warriors of Ancient China masterfully explores its subject.

Great book
I bought this book for my 6 year old son after he expressed some interest in ancient Egypt. He can't read the text himself but enjoyed having it read to him and the text was straightforward and informative, with interesting illustrations that caught his attention and prompted questions. The really great thing about this book is that it contains a stencil so you can trace your own hieroglyphs. My son loves this. The first time he sat down with the book he probably spent 3 solid hours "writing" his name (and everyone else's name) in hieroglyphs - and this is a kid who rarely sits still.

Exciting and captivating book for early readers
This is the first book that my 9-year-old, mildly dyslexic daughter read all the way through without stopping. She was captivated by the problems Lulu Witch faces in starting school and making peace with difficult peers in school. "Why aren't there more Lulu books, Mama?"

Martin Luther King Jr and the March on Washington (All Aboard Reading. Level 2)
Published in Library Binding by Grosset & Dunlap (04 December, 2000)
Authors: Frances E. Ruffin, Stephen Marchesi, and Jane O'Connor
Amazon base price: $13.89
Used price: $3.50
Average review score:

An excellent illustrated story of the March on Washington
"Martin Luther King, Jr. and the March on Washington" tells the story of the historic day when one of the most famous speeches in American history was delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Author Frances E. Ruffin sets the stage for King's "I Have A Dream" speech by providing the background on why civil rights leaders called for the March on Washington. The illustrations of Stephen Marchesi are combined with photographs of white only laundromats, colored entrances, and separate (and clearly unequal) drinking fountains. By the time the story gets to King's speech, students will have a good understanding of the rhetorical facing the speaker. The "I Have A Dream" speech is nicely summarized and the book concludes by talking about how the Civil Rights Act of 1964 changed a lot of the wrongs depicted in the opening section. This book is designed for students in the first through third grades (Level 2) and makes an excellent introduction to the civil rights movement and would be very useful for students to read during Black History Month to help them understand why King's birthday is a national holiday. I especially liked Marchesi's picture of President Kennedy watching King's speech on television; it might be useful to ask students to look at that picture and imagine what the President might be thinking as he listens to what King had to say.

A very exciting book
Molly and her best friend, Beth, always had fun and excitement. Molly had Beth to come over to her house and spend the night. That night when Beth went to bed, she had an awful, scary dream. You have to read this book to find out what kind of adventures they had together.
