An "interesting" book, but very far-fetched
Although the commonality of the alignment of the planets like this is very grabbing. It is based on little scientific value. In fact, in the 60's the planets were aligned like Noone describes, though not as straight as in May, of 2000. He bases his facts on the Bible, but didn't God say he would never send a flood of the proportions experienced by Noah and Noone's predictions? Doesn't the rainbow signify this? So, the author cannot base his claims on this. And when the planets align they will have little affect on the polar caps because of the ice caps position at that time. It is a POSSIBILITY that this may happen, but it is a possibilty that Aliens will come to earth tomorrow and take over our world. Anything is possible. Although this book was an interesting fiction book, it has no real scientific value. But everyone can come to there own conclusions. We will have to wait until May 5th, 2000 until we can see if Noone's findings are false. I for one hope they are false.
An entertaining blend of fact and fiction
I enjoyed this book because of its interesting facts about the the great pyramid (I am amazed that Egyptologists still cling to the 'slaves hauling rocks for a tomb' theory) but found many parts of the book difficult to accept. For instance, the alignment of planets in 5/5/2000 would probably have little gravitational effect on Earth in comparison to the sun's annual variation in distance from Earth due to its elliptical orbit (gravity is inversely proportional to distance and the planets' combined mass accounts for only a small fraction of the solar mass). I also found some statements puzzling (ie, the inhabitants of Stelle, Illinois returning to Earth after 2 weeks and being regarded by the 'primitive' survivors as Gods from the sky). Illustrations such as the face in the pyramid are so vague as to suggest a deliberate attempt to mislead (why didn't the author present a more detailed picture in an otherwise profusely illustrated book?).I also find it difficult to see how removing a single block from the roof of a chamber deep in the pyramid could enable people to observe stars (unless it was from an air shaft, but these were kept open and not blocked). I find it hard to believe that Jesus was a Caballist and Essene (although He was undoubtedly aware of these influences on contemporary thought), and Jesus' last words were spoken in Aramaic and not in an 'unknown' language (Mayan) as the author suggests. And on and on. It reads more like a narrative than a carefully-researched work, but in spite of its many questionable assumptions and conclusions, I found it interesting and entertaining, and would recommend it, especially to anyone interested in the structure of, and theories about, the great pyramid
Excellent! Not to be taken lightly, but very seriously!
Richard Noone opened my eyes to religous teachings that never made any sense to me. Some of the concepts put me at ease, for instance I always believed in Jesus, but not the concept of Earth being the center of the universe, nor that man has only existed for the little amount of time like the bible says. I do wish he'd had some answers to the new questions he planted in my mind, like where IS a safe place to be when this catastrophe occurs? His info on the pyramid at Giza was extensive and more informative and thorough than anything else I've read to date. His interviews were extremely interesting and some quite hilarious. I do question the Stelle group though-for such a catastrophic incident to affect our planet, whats a mere 2 weeks of being off the planet going to do? Another mystery for me. This is the very same book my dad was ravin' on about when I was younger-apparently not long after its first publication. I'd recommend this book to everyone-especially the narrowminded. I believe there is a whole lot of fact in this book, with little speculation. Guess we'll all see in about 3 years!?
