The Best 23rd Psalm
In regards to the vast array of books commenting on Psalm 23, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dave and Helen Haidle uniquely shows the reader the life of a shepherd and how he cares for his sheep (all in correlation to the verses of the psalm) just as Christ cares for us. This book is a new and excellent way to view Psalm 23.

Wonderful teaching resource
This book is illustratively appealing and provides an age appropriate life application of the word of God. Although the illustration was geared toward the younger ages, I feel it is universally useful for teaching the meaning of the 23rd Psalm.

Shepherd then and now
The Shepherd's Song is written in an engaging style making it easy to read. It brings scenes and events from David's life alive and then shows how the same struggles are ours today. This book takes you beyond seeing David as a dirty, shepherd boy watching sheep and writing songs to the man his own mighty men feared. The Shepherd's Song reviews David's failings and his restoration by God's grace when David turned in repentance and sought the Lord's will. In reference to David's adulterous affair, the author states we are a very deceptive people--how often does the phone wake you and you tell the other person "no you didn't wake me."

This is a good book for independent reading. At the back of the book discussion questions are divided by chapter, so Sunday School classes or small groups could use it as a study.

For those who want to develop a Godlike heart.
I read this book nearly two years ago and based a Sunday School adult class on the practical lessons each chapter contains. One of the most popular classes at our Church. The reader comes to understand how a man who sinned so grievously, time after time could be reffered to by God himself as "a man after my own heart". By discovering how God could possibly see David as a man after God's own heart, the reader comes to understand that he too can have a God like heart even though he makes mistakes.

an african experience:wildlife ar and adventure in Kenya
I bought this book as a present for my parents after they took a safari to Kenya. They love this book! It sits on their coffee table and they encourage all who stop by to view it. The story of the author/artists life is remarkable. The beautiful artwork which accompanies the tales of living in Kenya are so life like it's amazing.

Joan Wulff's Fly-Casting Accuracy
Published in Hardcover by The Lyons Press (1997)
Authors: Joan Wulff, Dave Shepard, and David Shepherd
Amazon base price: $20.00
Used price: $12.00
Average review score:

Grace, not power, makes the fly go where you want it.
Between Joan Wulff and Cathy Beck we don't need no stinking he-man fly fishing writers. I've enjoyed fly fishing with my husband for years. I've taken courses and still he could out cast me for both distance and accuracy. With Joan's Fly-Casting Accuracy as a guide I've become more accurate in the 15-40 ft cast than my husband who has fly fished 30 years to my 10. He's reading it now.

Psalm 23: The Song of Passionate Heart: Hope and Rest from the Shepherd

It moved my concepts of God toward a relationship with God.
Why am I lonely when surrounded by friends? Why am I restless, when I have so much to do? Why do I feel so sad when I have so much - family, friends, things, activities, and more? This book reminded me that "every desire, every aspiration, every hunger and thirst, every longing of our nature is nothing less than desire for God." David Roper offers a warm, "used-friendly," yet soul-searing glimpse of God as a Shepherd who is the source of our longing - and the answer for it. A simple and personally revealing little book that gave me something to look forward to each morning as I faced another day - and that kept my eyes on God until my head hit the pillow each night. Read it if you're depressed, or just have that small voice inside telling you, "there must be something more."

an able collection of Winnicott's work
....very useful, clear, readable presentation of the author's own ideas on a variety of topics. His description of Jung as schizophrenic is the least useful item in the collection.

Your Business Or Your Life: 8 Steps For Getting All You Want Out Of BOTH
Published in Paperback by Balios Publishing (15 January, 2001)
Author: David Shepherd
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Helpful book for small business owner
I received this book as a gift last summer, but didn't start really applying the steps until late last fall. Professor Sheperd's tools have helped me to figure out what were and then focus on the most profitable aspects of my business. If you can't afford to have a consultant come in an assess your business, then I think this book is a good start to getting you back in touch with why you started your business in the first place. The title sounds kind of "motivational" with its linking your business to "your life" but it is really just lots of tools that show you how to increase your profitability and then get your cash out of your business

My Shepherd
Published in Mass Market Paperback by The Poet's Corner Press (20 December, 2000)
Author: David Humphreys
Amazon base price: $12.00

A strong voice indeed!
John McGinley of the Sacramento Poetry Center reviewed "My Shepherd" by David Humphreys in the March issue of Poetry Now, 1998 writing, "David calls his style of writing "roller coaster collage" and I tend to agree. Reading him is quite a ride. Some of his poems, like "Firestone Library" and "Magpie" are so comfortable and familiar that you feel as if you might have helped write them. Others, like "Six Way Bypass Over Coffee At The Bookstore" are so tense and painful that you finish the poem with a sense of relief that it wasn't you who had to live through that particular experience. He'll relate the wild conversations of children at play and inventory the absurdities of their discarded and jumbled toys in "Several Obscurities" and then take you off to some equally odd adult universe in his "Space Cowboy". He does quick-witted satire in "So?" (Subterfuge Satire): "I feel like the programmed ignition of a personal singularity, big bang cosmic robotic spot-weld, titanic collision with the fog as well as the iceberg, becoming the event" and then he comes up with heartfelt lines like those in "She Is There": "Watching her as she leans on the swing she looks off at the roses and I see that she has taken on the dimensions of her life at school which has drawn shadows along her edges so that a flat surface no longer contains her." There is much more in this book that makes it well worth reading. Whatever you do, buy a copy of it and share it with others. This is a strong voice indeed!"
