Accurate, yet not heavy handed
La Leche League can sometimes have a reputation of harboring zealots, and "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" doesn't do much to dispel that reputation. This book, OTOH, is great: accurate, and very approachable. Most breastfeeding mothers won't need this book, and it is quite pricy, but if you work with mothers and babies in any capacity, it's a great book to have. (most mothers could use "So That's What they're For! Breastfeeding Basics" or "The Nursing Mother's Companion", or "The Womanly Art...") Information in this book is very straight-forward, easy to understand, very thorough and very easy to find. I like that. Most pediatricians and family practitioners could benefit from consulting this book on growth, milk supply, the hazards of giving a "relief bottle", and general ability to communicate with mothers.

The best all inclusive breastfeeding book!
I have read other books and this by far is the BEST one I have come across. It answers ANY question or concern I may have. I have found the answers I need in a matter of minutes and even when health professionals haven't a clue what to tell me. It has great information about pumping and storing breastmilk, what medications affect/don't affect your breastmilk, and so many other things that have helped me. This book is written like a textbook and instead of saying "you", it refers to you as "the mother." It is very easy reading, and I recommend this to a first time breastfeeder or a mom like myself who has breastfed before but didn't have all the information I needed. The book was very encouraging and interesting!

LOVE this!
HI. I am writing this review because I absolutely love this book. I got it after taking a non profit groups volunteer phone counseling class for breastfeeding counselors, and it was awesome to have to look at. I used this for myself as well as moms that I counseled with breastfeeding. This book is an amazing source of information from problems with breastfeeding, to the jaundiced baby breaking down & explaining bilirubin levels to you, as well as proper positioning, thrush, sore nipples, relactation, adoptive lactation! Tons and Tons of information that any breastfeeding mother, volunteer breastfeeding counselor, IBCLC, or DR/Nurse would find as honest practical advice! I have used this with now 2 breastfed children and countless new moms!

The amenities of book-collecting and kindred affections

If You Love Books
"The Amenities Of Book-Collecting And Kindred Affections", by A. Edward Newton is a classic in its genre as well as a book that will be enjoyed by anyone who is interested in the collecting of books, and some of the most noted collectors. Some may question the wisdom of reading about this man's experiences, as they were collected in this book in 1918. A variety of books have been published in recent years that claim to offer a guide to the collecting of books or the experiences of novice collectors. Building a library of books is not something that is easily done or learned. And a person with a fortune at their disposal acting without guidance will only amass a collection that had it been guided by a trusted advisor would be exponentially more valuable and complete.

The curator of the rare book department of a noted college who also was a participant in the latest book by Nicholas Basbanes, "Patience And Fortitude", introduced me to this book and two others. Mr. Basbanes is the author of, "A Gentle Madness", and will be publishing a third volume to his work that is already considered a modern classic by collectors and book lovers.

While the prices and auction results that are listed in this book are very out of date, they still make for great reading, and in some cases may bring to memory a book on a grandparents shelf that today would buy a car or home. If nothing else these old prices show just how much value continues to be placed on collectable books. Mr. Newton lived during the same time that some of those authors whose work he collected were alive and writing. He was a collector of manuscripts, which meant that the author's original drafts of their work were often available. At one point in the book he laments the appearance of the typewriter and the effect it will have on replacing the hand written original. Had he foreseen the computer it probably would have caused him physical distress.

Another area he was an avid collector of is so-called association copies. Like manuscripts these have the rarity that comes with being a one of a kind item. Throughout the book he shares many of the treasures he acquired like a book inscribed from Charles Dickens the father to his son. For people who love late 19th Century Authors, this man not only collected their work, but often knew the writers and their friends. In other instances his collection of Boswell and Johnson's work may not have come directly from the author to him, but he still was able to collect correspondence and other written material that is now difficult to find outside of museums.

This particular book is also wonderful for it has photographic illustrations as well as black and white and color plates as well. If you love books, find as old a copy of this work as you can, and you will have added a treasure to your shelves.

On Par With Richard Feynman:Clear,Educational,Entertaining
I read this book in 1998 and find myself revisiting it again and again. I love this book.

I keep it along side "Six Easy Pieces" (by Richard Feyman) as one of the two books that have helped me understand the concepts of physics more than any other. Six Roads in fact compliments Six Easy Pieces by picking up where Feynman left off in his book, describing in greater detail "The Theory of Gravitation", complimenting Feynman's explanations of "Quantum Behavior" and moving into explanations of Relativity Theory (which Feyman deals very little with). Makes me wonder if Speyer wasn't consciously drawing from and complimenting Feynman's book.

I can't give any higher recommendation to read this book. It's inspiring, fun to read, fun to reference, it's challenging and includes many graphs and some equations but it doesn't require prior knowledge of scientific jargon or advanced math, provides fundanmental explanations of a wide range of physical theories, and it gives an interesting perspective on the history of scientific thought that has led to those theories. The history of scientific thought, interactions of ideas, and achievements of great thinkers gave the book an engaging story, but ultimately, insight into the thoughts and equations themselves and the fundamental context of where those theories came from is the main feature and tremendous resource of this great science book.

Buy this book! (and maybe I'll get to see more like it)

An excellent text, even for inquisitive Paramedics!
The book comes in 3 hardback volumes, well worth the price. I am a practicing Paramedic with a desire to know more about the how's and why's of patient care. The book is well organized, with a reading level of college sophomore. The section on resucitation takes ACLS just a little bit further. I consider this book recommended reading for Paramedics who want to stay on top

Not what I thought
It's a lovely book, but I thought it would be more discography, picture, and biography related. It's a collection of articles that have written before and now reprinted. It has a nice section of fan stories and they are the highlight of this book. There is NO new revalations on Olivia that any die-hard fan doesn't know or hasn't known in the past about Olivia. I was hoping for a book that would be useful in research on Olivia. Maybe Olivia's story will be told by Olivia herself soon and it will be the must have book on Olivia surely, not this one. Sorry about that chief :o(

A Nice Book for all Olivia fans to Own...
This book is a great book to have if you are an Olivia fan. Mr. Wincentsen does a fantastic job piecing together magazine articles, quotes and fan stories and artwork. I would highly reccomend this book to NEW Olivia fans who want to know more about this lady and how she's touched fans all around the world. I love how he used articles from the last 35 or so years to chronicle how Olivia has been covered in the press. There's some nice quotes in here that the lady has made too....all in all, I highly reccommend this book.

A "must" for all Olivia fans (and friends)
I am proud to rate this book because I had
supported the author's work by giving him
photos and reports of my 2 personal meetings
with Olivia Newton-John.

It is an unusual book because it is not a biography
but nevertheless describes Olivia's career by
using newspaper and magazines comments or the reports
of fans who described how they felt when meeting
Olivia or how they have been influenced by Olivia
and her music.

A Brain Teaser
A simplistic presentation that presents some powerful ideas. A useful tool for Masonic leaders and teachers. Definitely not aimed at the general public.

Blast from the Past
Waite was once widely read by freemasons who were fascinated by his personal reflections on Christianity and stonemasons. This book provides a valuable insight into the ideas and value systems of a forgotten world.

The Illuminati Manifesto Compliments This Great Book!
Indeed, this is a good book. But to get even more out of it, read The Illuminati Manifesto.

Too expensive and too simple!!!!
On the moment I first received this book, I was already felt disappointed as the book is a timy one with fewer than 200 pages. I have a feeling that this book would not give much information on Newton, undisputably the greatest scientist and mathematician of all time!! ( Don't compare him with Einstein, the later can only be described as a great theoretical physicist !) Considering Newton's achievement and his complicated life, a book ten times the content of this one even may not be enough!

After reading the whole book, I was even more disappointed!! As the description of Newton's life is even less than any book on History of Mathematics!! Coupled with the expensiveness of this book. ( It cost me more than 60 dollars ) I cannot think of one reason to buy this book. I recommend " the life of Issac Newton or for a more detailed account, " Never at rest," both by Richard Westfall.

A very diasppointed book!!!!!
