Wonderful book about the nature of love.
I purchased this book after reading a book called "Grow Up-How Taking Responsibility Can Make You a Happier Person", by Frank Pittman. In that book, the author described how the giving of love was more important for happiness than the receiving of love. I realized that I didn't even have a clue what love really was! How could I give more love than I was receiving if I didn't really know what love really was? How would I ever be happy? I was pondering about what the true nature of love really was until I decided to read a book about it. This book answers those questions and more.
The author is a medical doctor and he uses medical analogies to describe the action of love as if it were an essential hormone. Negative emotions such as fear are like "drugs" that pollute the system and "block" the action of love, just like a beta-blocker drug blocks the action of adrenalin, for certain heart conditions. Thus "love-blockage" keeps us from experiencing love.
The author is a Christian writer, but anyone with any background can read this book and obtain a deeper understanding of the truer meaning of love.
I am definitely glad I read this book, and I highly recommend reading this book to anyone searching to get a deeper understanding of the meaning of love.

A refreshing look at a common problem
I have found this book a great help; Biuso and Newman approach the problem of feeling unworthy of love from the viewpoint of a medical doctor and a psychologist, respectively (which they are). Especially good is the analogy of receiving love with the brain's reception of neurotransmitter chemicals such as serotonin and endorphins.

Basic Pharmacology
"Basic Pharmacology" is a godsend to the the pharmacy technician student and classroom. I find this book to be exceptionally well written in an easy-to-understand format. This format unlike other text books allows the student to visualize medications (photograph) which is not found in other text books of this type. The information provided is the best that I have ever read in a pharmacology book. I think that not only will individuals benefit, college programs will charish this text also.

Simple things you can do to live organically.
The book was an easy read full of good ideas, some of which I have already put into practice in my own life. There is a chapter on consumption, which is kind of depressing as it makes you feel guilty for shopping for pleasure. But the book makes you think, which is what Nell Newman intended. It also makes you angry that the government doesn't insist on a better quality of life for us as far as chemicals/ toxins/ produce are concerned.

Covers everything to help make Earth safer and more pleasant
This is a good, easy read for anyone interested in making their world a safer more pleasant place to live. It covers everything a person can do to make a difference as far as helping to reverse the damage done by decades of poisoning our planet and thereby ourselves with pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. The suggestions in this book are things anyone can do. It also covers the newest degradation to our food supply, genetic engineering. Not written in words that are better left in a science lab but in down-to-earth, common sense language.

Buy This Book!
Informative, funny and inspiring, this book is a delight to read. The tone - perfection is not necessary, small changes can make big differences - is excellent and not at all preachy. I bought this book on Earth Day and couldn't put it down. I hope this is the first of a series of books by the authors.

Not enough for getting a complete perspective.
My comment refers to the third edition of this book, but I don't think the fourth could be much better.

First of all, this title shouldn't be included in the "Graduate Texts in Mathematics" series because the material it covers is covered in introductory undergraduate courses. Second, eventhough the author made a great effort to include as much topics as he could, the treatment of most of them is highly old-fashioned. I mean, he pays no attention to the most recent and elegant refinements of the basic theory, so the student is not immediately able to understand the real important ideas behind the subject. For example, nowadays the proof of the Cauchy integral formula is presented as a more ar less easy corollary of the general Stokes theorem. The Cauchy integral theorem is also obtained easily following the same fashion. Incredibly, the author explores this line in one appendix, but not well done, and apparently he doesn't realize that there is the key idea.

Also, keeping in mind that holomorphic functions are harmonic, most of the important results for holomorphic functions should follow at once from the corresponding ones for harmonic functions, but this old-fashioned texts don't take this remarkable important feature of complex analysis into account, making the treatment innecessarily complicated and leading the student to misunderstand both complex and harmonic analysis. Eventhough the book includes a whole chapter on harmonic functions, the author doesn't use their power as he should.

I'm afraid there are few famous introductory texts that I would suggest for first-timers. The best of them is Markushevitch, unfortunately out of print.

There is also another serious drawback: The author pays no attention at all to boundary value problems and therefore to the Cauchy-type integral, maybe the most important tool of complex analysis. The Hilbert transform is also not present.

If you have the opportunity take a look at Muskhelishvili's "Singular Integral Equations" and Gakhov's "Boundary Value Problems" and then you will understand my point.

Lang's book could be used as a companion text and as a reference for introductory courses. It's got some interestig excercises.

Its contents are: Complex Nubers and Functions; Power Series; Cauchy's Theorem, First Part; Winding Numbers and Cauchy's Theorem; Applications of Cauchy's Integral Formula; Calculus of Residues; Conformal Mappings; Harmonic Functions; Schwartz Reflection; The Riemann Mapping Theorem; Analytic Continuation Along Curves; Applications of the Maximum Principle and jensen's Formula; Entire and Meromorphic Functions; Elliptic Fuctions; The Gamma and Zeta Functions; The Prime number Theorem; Appendices.

Please take a look to the rest of my reviews (just click on my name above).

perhaps the best introduction to complex analysis
This is the book that really made me understand basic complex analysis. It doesn't try to give the most sophisticated or slickest presentation for experts. Instead, it gives a beautiful, concrete, down to earth explanations. The best feature is the applications. D. J. Newman is one of the world's great problem solvers, and this book includes numerous examples of how to use complex analysis to solve problems in surprising ways. Even in the more standard applications, such as summing series, the book gives many unusual examples. It concludes with Newman's proof of the prime number theorem, which is substantially shorter and clearer than many other proofs.

Excellent!
This is a brief text on complex analysis aimed at the traditional junior-senior course. As a text it may be a little too succinct for the average undergraduate. For example, I have no intention of teaching out of it. However, its clarity and presentation is absolutely refreshing. I think it is one of the best books written on complex analysis in the last twenty years. I recommend this book to any student of complex analysis.

WOULDN'T BE BAD IF THEY COULD GET IT RIGHT
The information presented is fairly easy to understand, interesting, and seems to be thorough. So what's the problem? I have to say, I would absolutely love the textbook and its corresponding workbook if it wasn't for one truely frustrating aspect - there are way too many errors. It's incredible! Here's an example - a question regarding roman numeral conversions (pg 38 wkbk)- what is 14 in roman numerals? well, anybody who's gone through grade school could tell you it's XIV - the answer key tells you it's CIV (104!!). How about this one (pg 85 txt) - convert 1mg to g: ok, i'm thinking - DUH - .001g - correct answer, according to the answer key is .011g -- Now, this is not quite a big deal when it's very easy to tell the book is wrong (yet, again) - but then, when you get into more difficult calculations and you can't trust the answer key, it becomes very frustrating. When you take into account the fact that you've spent over $60 for the text and workbook and you can't count on the information to be correct it becomes enraging. There are also a plethora of idiotic typos to furthur insult you for sending these people your money. Example (pg 108 txt) convert 120 mcg to mg - answer according to the key: 120 mcg = 0.12 mcg - that's 0.12 MCG not MG. Or, how about his - convert 50% to a decimal. Answer according to the key: 50/100. Now, the last time I checked that was something called a fraction - a decimal looked more like this: .50 - This isn't even the tip of the iceberg. I just have one question for Morton Publishing Co...Do you guys happen to employ anyone there called an EDITOR? I just hope to God you all don't have anything to do with the answer keys the PTCB is holding in their possession. If you do, I quit now.

Textbook for Pharmacy Technician Program
If you have never worked in a pharmacy before and want to pass the pharmacy technnician certification exam, then you need more than just a certification review book. You will also need a textbook that explains comprehensively pharmacy laws and the operating procedures of a typical pharmacy. Because it isn't a certification review, be aware that it doesn't have enough practice problems. Overall, it is an excellent textbook to use with a workbook.

The Only Book a Pharmacy Technician Will Ever Need!
This wonderful book combines text and visuals to provide the most complete Pharmacy Technician book ever written. The authors of this book have done an outstanding job in bringing us an easy to read, easy to understand book on this subject. Take it from me a Pharmacy Technician student if you buy only one book BUY THIS ONE !!

America's teachers : an introduction to education

Excellent Introduction to American Education
I am a university professor and dean of education. I used Dr. Newman's book during the spring 1998 semester in my Introduction to American Education course. My students enjoyed the easy reading and the manner in which Dr. Newman presented the material.

The book is quite up-to-date and deals with current and historical educational issues in an honest and up-front manner.

I highly recommend this book to anyone teaching an introduction to education course.

The one drawback is the quality of the supporting materials. The teacher's guide is not well constructed and at the time I used the text, no test back or items were available.

Ok introductory book but look elsewhere for in depth info.
As an introductory book its fine but as a 'Most Complete' you want it to expand beyond basic examples into e.g. interaction between the cartridge types, practical implementation advice etc.

I'd have used the money back guarantee if there was one as I expected a bit more from it.

Buy Oracle Web Application Server Handbook instead
Does a reasonable job of covering Oracle Web Application Server 3.0, but the Oracle Press book is better.

Good, but certainly not "The Most Complete Reference"
This book does a good job of providing an overview of the architecture surrounding OAS 3.0, but certainly does not hold to its claim as "The Most Complete Reference." Its biggest shortfall is its lack of detail concerning Inter-Cartridge Exchange (ICX). It mentions this topic at least a few times, and explains the premise behind ICX, but doesn't provide any examples of how ICX is accomplished from a PL/SQL cartridge to a C cartridge, for example. A good book for people who are just learning about OAS and want an introduction and then some.

Too many errors
This book has more errors than should ever be allowed in a professional product. There are typo's in both text and examples. The CD does not contain the source code from the book and I vote this the worst source ever of any computer based information I have found to date. It has left me very unsure of the publishers (QUE) standards and I may never purchase another QUE book again. I simply do not trust them. Spend your hard earned money on a different choice

Good JDK 1.0.2 reference. JDK 1.1 coverage is limited.
"Special Edition Using Java, Second Edition" is an excellent reference to JDK 1.0.2. However, today (April 15), only a month and a half after being billed as "Computer Programming Expert Editor's Recommended Book, 03/01/97", it is a dated reference and the cover claims of JDK 1.1 coverage fall short--they are preliminary and peripheral to primary Java programming topics. For example, there is no coverage of the major changes in the Java event model of JDK 1.1, which permeate almost every application. I recommend waiting for better JDK 1.1 coverage, hopefully in Joseph Weber's new version, "Special Edition Using Java 1.1" which has not yet been released, but for which Amazon is taking orders today

One massive tome - but the standards keep changing
This book is nothing if not large. This was QUEs attempt to capture the entire spectrum of JAVA and make it easy to understand (a task that they accomplished) but then the standards changed again. This is still a great book for learning Java; but, you will have to move on to other resources for news on the updates
