Proof: Better than Fiction!
I bought "Willie" years ago (and I like the old cover with the flag..don't know why they changed that) It's a big, thick book that's just crammed with proof that real life - if it's Willie's - is a whole lot better than any fiction novel. I loaned my copy out one too many times and it came up missing, so was glad to see it on here so I could get another one...only I had my old one so dog-earred, highlighted, etc...I hate having to go buy all those markers again, to do over;) When you get your copy, go to the index and ck it out....grab that highlighter pen before you even get started, here. I'm a truck driver, so I read this and that and here and there, before having a chance to read cover to cover. Then it turned into a reference book of Willie's Wisdom and all sorts of good stuff to good to forget. I kept it handy just to re-read some parts over and over. It's more than one book, somehow or other...yes, it's his autobiography - an All-American tale of rags to riches and all that; but, it's a whole lot more than that, too. If you like Willie, buy it. If you don't, I don't know why you're in here looking at it...but, if you like a dynamite story, or to read real-life accounts at all - you won't put this down, easily. What leaves me amazed is how anyone could cram that much living into the time period that book covers...he's lived nearly 20 more years since then...so I bought his new one, "Facts of Life and Other Dirty Jokes", to see what he's been up to since the "Willie" book. It's a hoot..sort of a grass-roots type of wisdom, interjected with lots of "mind-f.r.ts" and takes on his varied accumulation of friends and family, to date. Better buy it too, while you're at it...for dessert.

strong book
not only do I dig&respect Willie Nelson as a Artist but also His Down to Earth Vibe.this Book Reflects on that&so much more.He has a Mellow but to the point way of saying stuff like He did in this Book.He is a song within a Song in this Book.

Best damn bio of a country music star I've ever read!
Like Outlaw Willie himself this book does not stick to conventional writing; rather it is structured like a song, with the "melody" supplied by Willie and the "chorus" by his friends. May the publisher see fit to put it back on the shelves someday soon

one of the best
This is one of the best Aliens graphic novels ever. In Outbreak, the government brings Wilks, (supposed to be Hicks) out of prison to lead an expedition to the Alien planet in order to secure a specimen. Wilks in the process decides to free Billie (newt) from the mental hospital she's in. In the midst of all this, various cults form around the worship of the alien, conspiracies are abound, and there is fierce competition of who will get the Alien specimen to Earth first. The story is extremely well crafted, it has great plot surprises everywhere and in the conclusion it actually teaches us something about human nature. The art wasn't the best, but it was good nevertheless for such a lengthy comic. Well done dialogue, well crafted characters and a great story make this a must buy for every alien fan.

a very good comic with interesting characters.
Out of all the aliens comics and books i have read this is the best.It tells about the new sightings of xenomorphs and also about Hicks and newt 13 years after the second movie. There names are changed though because of complications around the third movie. it has more plot and less aliens which is actually better. the aliens are hardly even seen until the end. the very end of the comic is amazing. it's really nice how it revolves around many different characters who are all important to the plot but mainly don't interact with eachother. it's a great opening to the aliens series and completly surpasses the movies. choose this comic above all.

Such Entertainment
Only in the past few years have I begun to truly appreciate Louis L'Amour and his colorful stories of the wild west, good guys and bad guys. From the first moment of listening to this recording featuring the endearing and timeless voice of Willie Nelson, I was a fan for life of both the author and singer/songwriter and now narrator of audiobooks. Willie brings the characters Mr. L'Amour has created to full bloom, allowing the listener to take a step back in time to the days of the good, the bad and the ugly.

I Loved this recording, and plan on buying the full collection of Willie Nelson and his buddies, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash reading more of Louis L'Amour's novellas.

Three Really Great Short Stories
This set contains two now out of print audio books: "Four Card Draw" and "The Turkey Feather Riders." All three are well done with a great cast of characters and special effects. The audio is crisp and clear, easily heard in an automobile's noisy environment.

Four Card Draw. Louis L'Amour starts this audio volume with a short discourse on period books about the old west. "Four Card Draw" is told first person by Allen Ring, a gambler who wins the Red Rock Ranch in Arizona. He is told the ranch is haunted by someone who was murdered there. That someone was one of the three Haslet brothers, owners of a neighboring ranch, who are out for revenge. Allen walks right into the middle of a frying pan and ends up fighting for his life!

Riding For The Brand. Jed Asberry wins a poker game only to find himself robbed by the angry losers. They dump him in the desert with no clothes, left to die. Days later, on his last legs, he stumbles across three recently killed people (two men and a woman)... in the middle of the desert. Taking clothes, guns, and papers from one of the men, Jed becomes Micheal Latch. Micheal was on his way to inherit a ranch, so Jed decides to assume this role. He finds himself up to his neck in serious shooting trouble as someone else is willing to murder to get the property!

The Turkey Feather Riders. Louis L'Amour starts this story by giving a short discourse on cowboys and the cattle business as it was in the 1860's through 1880's (and now). Jim Sandefer is the forman for a New Mexico ranch. His boss, Grey Bowen, makes a sudden visit (after years of being away) with his daughter, Elaine, and some new guests: Rose and Lee Martin. Grey wants to marry Rose, but Jim discovers that she and her son are up to something that doesn't smell right! Then the shooting begins!

Well worth the purchase price. Run Time: 180 minutes.

A must-read for inspiration
Unlike most "religious" category books, this book lacks the preachy quality that causes most readers to not absorb the text. This book insightfully breaks down barriers between different religious beliefs and simply brings forth the universal belief in a higher power. The people that Larry King and Rabbi Katsof chose to interview are made more personable and are made more tangible through their everyday prayers, which are similar to ours, and their quest to be closer to God. This book would make a fabulous holiday gift that is sure to please a recipient of any religious background.

Simply Powerful
Mr. King delved into the foundation of Spirituality and Religion and made simple an otherwise complex and controversial issue. The book focuses on the individual and his or her communication with God, while setting aside religious beliefs. I would like to recommend to friends who are too formal about prayers and to those who maybe agnostic such as Larry King in his book.

Powerful Prayer a Must Read
Powerful Prayers is a Must Read Reading Powerful Prayers provides you amazingly simple examples of commuincating with God through personal everyday prayer. It opens the door to an otherwise complex arena of thought. The discussion between Larry King and Rabbi Katsof is sensitive and thought provoking. The interviews add incredible depth to the discussion. They also legitimize informal prayer, and the many different ways people have found to communicate with their respective spiritual beings. I recommend this book to everyone who is open to exlporing their individual communication with God. It is a must read. It has changed my entire understanding or paradigm in regards to my relationship with God outside of a house of worship.

Aliens Book One
I was greatly surprised by this book. It is probably the best of the comics, and focuses on the survival of Hicks and Newt. I heard other reviewers say that the comics were better than the last two movies, and I must agree. ... The story focuses on the survivors of the Aliens mission, Hicks and Newt. After their arrival on Earth, they were seperated and unable to communicate with each other. But when an Alien Hiveworld is found the goverment needs Hicks expertise and drag him along. But not before he rescues Newt(who is much older due to the elapsed time spent on earth) and takes her with him. After barely escaping the alien mission, Newt and Hicks realize that the aliens are setting up a bigger hiveworld, a hiveworld on the planet earth.

This makes the movies look like bug chow!
Written before Alien3, this book is not in line with the films after Aliens. It is far better than any of them. The story is the best I have read in a graphic novel. Only one word need describe it-epic. We do not have cheesy INDEPENDANCE DAY type theatrics, we have a panorama of love, ambition, strife and perdition. The aliens' invasion of Earth is brilliantly portrayed, as is the subsequent collapse of civilization. We have human civilization and savagery juxtaposed clearly. Philosophy and terror go hand in hand in this extraordinary book. The most emotionally moving title in this series. This should have been ALIEN3. It has all the poeticism and emotional depth of that brilliant movie, while it dispenses with the plotting infelicities and sketchy characterization. Compared to ALIEN RESURRECTION, the latest title in the movie saga, this book is a prime piece of science-fiction. Ironically that movie was more like a cheesy comicbook, while this book is like an excellent movie. Comparisons th Kubrick's SPACE ODYSSEY 2001 would indeed be justified when talking of this book. The illustrations are beautiful, with special attention on the faces of the characters. One final note: this was rereleasd under the title OUTBREAK with changes made to fit it in with ALIEN3.

Paul Verheiden is Mr. 'Aliens.'
What can I say; an absolute classic tour de force, Paul Verheiden is Mr. 'Aliens.' for those who are in the know this is the where it all begins; the first book in the excellent Aliens graphic novel series, and it's an absolute stormer! It hits on so many levels, not just the obvious sci - fi horror of killer bugs that are born by bursting out of your stomach and grow to the size of men but also the meaning - and nature of life - what it means to be human (is a clone a human?), our psychology, the origin of the aliens, their psychology and social organisation, mankind's place in the universe, the problems of our planet, and more. Verheiden goes deep into what the aliens stand for, what they mean, their implications for us, as well as the obligatory comparisons between man and alien. He shows us that he knows aliens more than the filmmakers did. If ever there was a case study of how to take a concept and run with it, then this is it. Verheiden sensibly cuts out Alien 3 continuity: the two characters who survived Aliens along with Ripley (the girl Newt and the soldier Hicks) but were pronounced dead at the beginning of Alien 3 are central characters in this book. The book's underlying premise is the downward tendency of human nature when confronted with challenges and problems beyond our ken and normal frame of reference. We see twisted people trying to use the alien menace for their own ends: depravity that includes twisted scientific experiments, bio-weaponry and focuses for cult worship, with the resultant excesses of human suffering and dying. Indeed, it is humanity's collective weaknesses and baser desires that let the monsters in; that let them get a foothold on the planet (hence the title 'outbreak'), that causes earth's infestation as the aliens' - despite not possessing 'intelligence' - exploit our human failings. All too late do we realise that the aliens are a cancer, a cancer that has infected our earth and made it unliveable. Thus the scattered remnants of humanity have to flee, for earth is lost. A quite superb plot that leaves you speechless. A gripping, complex and ultimately tragic sci-fi horror saga from the one and only Paul Verheiden, who saw the potential in the Aliens phenomena and went into creative overdrive, giving us a timeless scince-fiction classic. Who cares about film sequels when the comics are this good?

Liked the lyrics
Willie Nelson is a great singer and pretty good guitar player. Now for the book: Most of the book consists of his song lyrics. That's the best part. As to the jokes, a few of them made me chuckle. The "keep breathing" and "long liver" lines on page 22 are ancient. Willie admits to being 68. As to the slang language, those same old "s" words and "f" words and a few others might be OK for emphasis, and if you like repetition, there's a bit of that. The joke about AIDS on page 64 is modern, but. Stick to music, Willie.

The Essential Willie!
Even my daughter the confirmed punk rocker howled with delight when she read it. It's just Willie having fun, telling war stories, Texas tales, and some of the dirtiest jokes you'll ever read. For long-time Willie fans, it's filled with lyrics to classic Willie songs, and, even better, to his obscure, mostly long-forgotten songs. One of the lyrics has a legend not in the book attached to it: Willie and Johnny Bush are on a tour bus, Willie says something like "I can write a hit song about anything in 15 minutes." Bush says "You're on!", they bet something best left unmentioned, and hands him a newspaper story he'd been reading about a woman found strangled. "I Just Can't Let You Say Goodbye" is in the book ... maybe the bloodiest country song ever ...."... the flesh around your throat is pale, indented by my fingernails, now you can't scream and you can't cry, and I just can't let you say goodbye ..." When you see the lyrics to "Crazy" in print, you realize all over again what a wonderful wordsmith Mr. Hugh W. Nelson is. It's a book I have read and re-read, gave a dozen copies of it as gifts when it first appeared, some of them to musicians who'd played and toured with Willie. "Yup, he hasn't changed a bit!"

ON THE ROAD WITH THE MAN!
If you are a fan of Willie Nelson ... as most folks are ... you'll want this book.

It's spoken in town-to-town musician-bus language and it's simply what Willie intended for the book to be --- a no-holds-barred bit of chit-chat placed into print by utilizing the casual talking style of the author.

Like his many musical compositions that have been released on records, CDs and cassettes during the past 40 years or so, this is a work of art by an artist who has lived the life and is, therefore, qualified to talk about it.

Willie sent me the beginning pages of the manuscript as he was creating it on his bus while riding from city to city for various appearances. After reading what was submitted to me, I knew it would be a "winner". Reading the completed book was a genuine delight.

Some of the jokes told by Willie are not the type you would tell to your mother (who made have already heard them if she knows Willie), but are not offensive unless your head has been buried in the sand during the past couple of decades. Like a good movie, the hilarious attachments just add to the atmosphere.

While you are reading this book, you get the feeling you're sitting on Willie's smoky bus, listening to the genius as he laughs and relays numerous stories of the road, discusses some personal friends and speaks with a tongue in cheek manner about the somewhat complex music/entertainment scene. There are also some bits that are to be taken as serious statements from time to time.

Although he needs no introduction to his talents as a singer, actor, extraordinary guitar picker and songwriter, it's the "common" connection that makes this an authentic piece of literary art.

Willie caps it all off with many photos and lyrics for songs, most of them composed by a man who is looked upon by his many peers and countless fans as being unsurpassable in the business of entertainment.

You might put Willie's new CD, "THE GREAT DIVIDE", in the player unit while you lay back and enjoy this very good book written by a dear old friend.

Yaaaayyyy! Kinky discover what a plot is again!
Read the Kirkus Review for the story summary, so I'll cut to the chase here. Kinky tells a lot of road stories about Willie Nelson, Tom T. Hall ("loved all his songs and both his melodies") and offers a ribald quote from Kris Kristofferson about Farrah Fawcett-Majors that will make you spit milk through your nose. These stories make "Roadkill" a far more entertaining book than "The Love Song of J. Edgar Hoover" in which he seemed to spend far too much time talking about himself. Kinky is capable of spinning a mystery plot -- "A Case of Lone Star" is still his best -- but "Roadkill" shows Kinky can be ribaldly funny, still capable of making the inner 13-year-old boy on some of us laugh out loud

A Spiritual Trip
Willie Nelson fans will find pleasure, and perhaps a few surprises, in Kinky Friedman's latest offering, "Roadkill." The two share a long friendship, dating back to Friedman's days as leader of the now-defunct Texas Jewboys. In "Roadkill," Nelson reprises his real-life role as a friend of the Kinkster and serves as a sort of spiritual mentor for the country singer-turned private eye, who finds himself becoming disillusioned with his bohemian lifestyle. The two connect just in time for Kinky to take up the case of a possible revenge plot against his friend. Is the FBI settling an old score with Willie? Or is it just one of his 97 former wives? As usual, the Kinkster crashes his way to a comic resolution, with the help of the ever-present Village Irregulars. Kinky makes a practice of populating his novels with the real people in his life (most every character mentioned truly exists), and it's quite touching to find his description of Nelson as a spiritual, centered man at peace with himself - a regular "Zen Texan." The novel will provide Kinky fans with another wonderfully convoluted ride, and perhaps give Willie fans new insights into their hero

Friedman is funny, and this is one of his better mysteries.
Even his enemies must admit that Kinky Friedman is clever. Too his fans, he's hilarious. This is another mystery with himself as hero/detective. Willie Nelson plays the part of potential victim. Funny as usual, and with a good story line, as well. Not a Nobel Prize candidate, but definitely a fun read.
